For people saying J. Cole doesn't hold himself accountable, what does accountability look like to you? To me, it looks like standing in front of the world on stage acknowledging how corny and disingenuous the move was to make a diss record to someone you considered a friend because friends and media pressured him into it and acknowledging that there was no truth is what he said about Kendrick's discography. It looks like acknowledging that he had gone off his original desired path of simply wanting to make great music that helps people through life and having fun while doing it. For him, that's what hiphop was always about. He also acknowledges the competitive edge of the genre but states that it doesn't mean he has to dig up dirt and mudsling on a diss record in order to compete. He never said he didn't throw the first official shot. He never said he was never involved. He stated that he fell to the pressure and wants to pivot into a more peaceful phase in his life leading into the fall off. That sounds like accountability and maturity.

I loved this video and agree with the majority of your points. I think most people who are misinterpreting “Port Antonio” didn’t ever like Cole anyway, or were never gonna get over his attempting to diss Kendrick. Lol. Since it was lame (it wouldn’t have been that bad if it was coming from someone else, but J. Cole is an Elite Lyricist with a Degree in Communication and already made “False Prophets,” “Snow on the Bluff,” etc) so it was viewed as if he only took it down because it wasn’t well received. But I think he really just regretted putting out there and was truly losing sleep. Lol. He said in the past that he would NOT diss anyone he didn’t have a real problem with. That’s the real reason why “7 minute dril” was mediocre in comparison to “False Prophets.” He had a REAL issue with how Kanye was moving!
Kendrick is my GOAT, Cole is #2 to me. Their fan bases usually have a lot of crossover, they are very similar. Which why Cole was able to ask his crowd “how many of y’all think Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest to ever touch a microphone?” And they went crazy. It is very rare That you like Kendrick and hate Cole, and vice versa. Cole fans were DEVASTATED on YT when Kendrick jabbed at Cole on “Like That.” Lol! They thought they were friends and didn’t understand why he would do such a heinous act. LOL! Which is why I have been outraged that everyone has been acting like Cole is more like Drake than Kendrick since all this has happened!

Idk what Cole was thinking with that. Maybe he thought it would be a great idea to do something less lyrical and “fun” for the folks who aren’t into the lyrical miracle stuff. Lol! I only like Future on songs with my favorite Artists like Kendrick, Chloe, etc. He’s the Toxic King. Lol!

I don't think Cole is talking about the media, I think Cole is specifically talking about Jay-Z and the profit he'll see directly from this beef. The song has a Jay-Z beat flip, he's using a Jay-Z flow, and there's several plays on Jay-Z songs in it. Imo the song is about manipulative music executives who stand to gain a lot more than these media personalities off 1: rappers beefing and 2: making infinitely more money from dead artists than alive ones.
EDIT: Cole was right, Kendrick's last album was tragic. It did great and was a masterful album about tragedy. That's not a diss.

I said this on another video and i’ll say it again. When he said, "I wouldn't lost a battle dawg, I would've lost a bro," people think he's still being competitive, which is honestly dumb and just shows they don't get Cole's character. He’s really saying, if he won the battle, at what cost? Or if he lost, it’s not like he’d care about the battle itself-he’d feel like he lost his brother over some social media clout. It's clear he doesn't care about the battle, but of course, the people thinking he's being competitive are the same ones taking his mention of blood literally. Just proves they don’t get his lyrics.
