Senua's saga, like Scorn is more an interactive showcase of visual mastery, than a traditional game. you can clearly sense the studios behind these games do not care about an advanced or flawless combat system, an intricate skill tree or microtransactions. These entries really start to blur the boundaries between videogames and movies, and I'm all for it. Granted, they being displayed right next to Call of Duty or Fortnite in the Game Stores is setting the wrong expectations.
Expectation plagues the modern gamer in my opinion. We need a revival of that old, innocent attitude when we just sat back and let the artists speak to us through their art. Now people will review-bomb a game because the main character doesn't meet their expectation of beauty.
@@DJ-wl5qo My point is that sometimes it's better to shut off one's expectations of what a game should be and just let it speak to you. Not every game is designed to meet 10 standards. Some take creative risks, i.e, they're trying to be something new. As in the case with Scorn. Some reviewers fail to understand that, hence the mixed reviews. As for review-bombing a game because the character isn't gay enough or beautiful enough, that's just taking expectation too far. Don't get met wrong, it's fine not to relate to something, but making too much fuss about it as if it's a serious metric by which a game should be rated is problematic in my opinion.

Could care less about graphics, most games I play currently are cheapo indies. But I enjoyed the first installment of Hellblade. Although the new one is passable, it was not very good. As an Xbox series X owner, (TBF mostly pc gamer, but I'm not a xbox hater) games go to Microsoft to die. I can't think of a studio Microsoft bought and made better.
I couldnt care less about graphics in games (my favorite game is Minecraft, and I only stopped using a CRT TV in 2017), but this game made me understand, finally, why production is a super important tool in game design. The choreography, acting, and set design all work together so well to create what feels like a specially designed concert/play/haunted house designed for you to play through. The realistic style of the game helps immerse you in that vibe. It really does feel like a haunted house with superb acting and production. I'm the opposite of you, I liked the first Senua game, but I wasn't crazy about it.
But the game immediately became my second favorite game of all time and I will certainly be returning to it once a year around Halloween time, like a good movie marathon.
@@glowerworm Fair enough, to each his own my man.
Dont understand how people are so against this style of game... like if i found this game as a kid, I'd have fallen in love with it. i love games that feel like a movie. As a kid, i always walked away pleasantly, surprised thinking about how my parents would never even understand how incredible games can be at telling a story
Because a lot of people aren't into story heavy games
@deathgorilla782 but that doesn't mean a game is bad because you don't like it. It might just not be your thing
@Roach420 Never said that, but there's quite a lot of people who commented that are butthurt most if not a lot of gamers don't like story heavy games without a lot of action.
Every comment pisses me off everyone is talking about gameplay this and gameplay that and mad that it has too many cutscenes. This is absolutely a work of art in every aspect from someone who works in the film industry and plays a shit ton of games. Charlie please for the love of God have an open mind and know how spectacular of a job they did on this game.
did u even play the game?
@@aishaahmad9653 yes I did. I’m an older guy. I’m not part of the younger generation who just wants action all the time and knew what I was getting into when I bought it. You have to appreciate art when you experience it not just gameplay action and high delivery expectations from a story game that won’t be like money hungry multiplayer games that most so called gamers enjoy more nowadays
@@TheMaskedJustice no but the reason people liked the first hellblade so much was the art it presented with a reasonable price and amazing story, but the second game is devoid of all that. idk abt the us but in the uk its £70 just for a 5 hour game? u can appreciate a game as a work of art while also acknowledging its a disappointing experience especially for the time it took and price
@@aishaahmad9653 nothing changed in the second one from the first one besides listening to the community on what they wanted for the second one and they did just that. And if you are complaining about the price then you shouldn’t be buying it that means you aren’t good with finances if you dislike the price of a game. There’s been plenty of other games that were way more shorter prices about the same it will never change. Go back to your COD and Fortnite
@@TheMaskedJustice u don’t understand people are willing to pay the price only if the quality of the game holds up to the first. i loved the first hellblade and id pay the same price for it but hellblade 2 is a big downgrade storywise, u dont buy a game just because it looks good and if thats ur thing u can do it but im just saying that the hate its getting is valid. imagine waiting 7 years just for 5 hours and its story and writing doesnt even begin to compare to the first one
1:47:08 You NPCs need to hear this.
Wait you're telling me that a story driven game has long cutscenes?
Wow. It's like the focus is on the story.
At this point they might start making games with stories.
Guys..... A story driven game..... Has a story and yapping.
JK but in all seriousness it's messed up that Xbox didn't advertise this game just so they could get rid of the studio for a Tax Write Off.
It's crazy how many ppl in the comments miss the point of this game and expecting something different.
it is, but it's also not very surprising. probably the same people that like movies like Moonfall
people expect a game not a walking simulator
its immature children
this is just a tech demo. i loved the first one but quit this one within 30 minutes. so disappointing and RIP Ninja Theory

Tech demo that costs 50 dollars? You are kidding.
Too bad youre misisng out. Absolutely loved this game. Shorter but better than the first.

Walking sim
1:47:08
So what do you call this game when there is combat. Is the combat a walking simulator?
Although I haven't the slightest of clue about how well this game played, it has been absolutely incredible to watch. Probably one of my favorites.
The puzzles really slowed it down to a crawl though. -4/10 for the puzzles.
I don’t care what the comments say. Play Senuas sacrifice on acid and tell me it doesn’t change your life.
I’ll wait.

Definetly one of the best games of this year, the cutscenes are outstanding, the storytelling is great and the voices in her head really elevate the horror factor of the game. Its so full of love most game companies today just make a quick cash grab but this one really stands out
Movie*
50 bucks for 3 hours of game is absolutely a cash crab
Its about 4-5 hours just as the first game and it is an immersive experience. It would be a cash grab if it had a battle pass or Shop, just like most of the single player games have today. Its just sad that new gen childs cant appreciate art for a fair price
@@leiderkeinnamevorhanden5621 kids will think a game for $50 bucks is alot when they'll play a free game and drop $200 on it yearly

At the intro I was like "please don't speak so close into my ears 😑"
Welcome to everyday life for ppl with psychosis lol
Is this a strand-type game?
Edit: want your games to get easy accolades? Just add a “slavery bad” storyline for commentary!
The slavers took people to cuz they were trying to protect their people by sacrificing slaves to the Giants.
They took slaves out of fear.
And this is an actual thing Vikings did, they took slaves to serve them or sacrifice them to the Gods.
Wtf are you on about?
@@Astartes-6969it's neat bc I never realized vikings did this. I knew aztecs did though. I find it kinda remarkable that humans took slaves as sacrifice not once, but twice, in isolation. Maybe it says something about us lol
100% not at all a storyline that is pushed. Just fitting for the setting. Y'know you *can* actually feature slaves for historical accuracy without making the entire story about them.
@@Astartes-6969 When every fucking game becomes about some kind of slavery or oppression it becomes fucking exhausting. Sorry people like you don't want to accept that.

@mementomori771 at least it's not $70 up front and you're not forced to keep it
For a game that has focus in the combat, there's not much focus on the combat. For the first at least.
when did it ever say they were focusing on combat?? The only people walking away disappointed from hellblade 2 are people that probably never bothered to play the first one
I’m sorry but this is not a real game. It’s a pseudo movie that focuses on everything but gameplay. A lot of games are slowly falling for this direction. Stop pushing for this on media that’s supposed to be fun and interactive.
Edit: For those saying “This game is not for you. You have to appreciate it for what it is!” Read my reply down below. And no, I don’t have to. If you go to a restaurant, order food, and what they serve ends up being not that great, are you gonna appreciate it for what it is?
“It’s not my kind of game so it’s not a real game.” Is basically what you just said.
@@ryanemms I’m into narrative driven games like Telltale, but the difference is that they at least provide player choice and don’t act like a pretentious movie. Hellblade you walk from Point A to Point B, solve braindead puzzles, have maybe a few minutes of clunky combat in between, and you’re rewarded with a cutscene to a story that’s not even that great but the pretty visuals are supposed to make up for it. The only thing it’s got going for it is the headphones experience but that gets old after a while because the voices won’t STFU.
"Video Games are art" and its consequences have been a disaster for the games industry.
@@thecaptain6520 how are they not? Like movies they're a collaboration between just about every basic artistic discipline under the sun, often even moreso than movies

This game is a work of art and the point of it was to tell a story, you can play other games if what you wanted was just straight gameplay 🤨
Still better than Death Stranding

Naah! Death Stranding lets you roleplay as an otter. That game is about travelsal first and foremost, but the array of options you have to try on your way is positively wild.
