      I noticed it first in the level with the rockets attacking the mothership. It was WAYYY more epic in the N64 version, this seemed like a massive downgrade. • @ReadEveryDay456
      @ReadEveryDay456 Месяц назад +1

      I can see why. It's supposed to be some kind of amalgamation of past Star Fox games, particularly Star Fox 64, but it's executed very awkwardly. The codec models for several bosses and enemies from SF64 were repurposed, so you have characters that were previously bosses just being normal enemies with one-liners. None of the music returns except for Katt's theme, Star Wolf, and the boss music, and the missions don't connect or flow as well as they did in previous games. Take the Star Wolf fight for example... instead of having characters target your allies based on rivalries, you have to destroy three of them for Wolf to finally appear. It's awkward lol. It is very visually appealing, though; it looks like the developers had to make do with a limited budget.

    The original Starfox's level 3 lasers fired energy balls that fired with a satisfyingly concussive chug-chug sound. It really felt like you were ground-and-pounding those big capital ships as you pummeled them with these thudding spheres and bits flew off. In Starfox 64 the level 3 weapon just became twin blue laser beams with the same light pew-pew noise as the starting weapon. I hope any sequels bring back those energy cannonballs.

      Command (By Q Games) is a mix of strategy game with flying missions with multiple endings, it is a good game.
      64 3DS(By Q Games) is a decent port of the 64 game with little flaws.

      @@JudaiMaverick86 adventures had no business being a Star Fox game. Assault made the bone headed decision to make like 15% of the game be in the arwing and made the rest of the game boring on foot sections with extremely dated controls. Command just blows all around. The branching stories are like Reddit fan fiction and the lack of on rails missions is disappointing. The strategy aspect is an interesting nod to StarFox 2 but not my cup of tea. Definitely prefer the paths style of StarFox 64. And zero is actually an inexcusable misstep. All you have to do is make a game in the same vein as Star Fox 64 yet they decided to make a ridiculously convoluted control scheme. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Even if the game allowed you to control it traditionally, you would still be hindered as the whole game was designed around the 360 view aim. It just so happens that the level designs are bad due to this feature.

      You don't have to use the two screens, you can just use the minus button to put the Cockpit view to the Tv screen and back again. Also on the top right of the pause menu you can turn the motion controls on and off.
      So why have two screens, for the game's co-op mode.

  • @kassfoss3210
    @kassfoss3210 4 месяца назад +1

    I think this game can work on a single screen. I'd design the controls like this.
    Arwing Control changes:
    RS (press)- toggle target/ untarget,
    Left and right Dpad- Switch targets.
    LZ- (Hold) Cockpit view Visor.
    Right stick, and gyro (optional)- aim redical in cockpit view.
    Gyro aiming can still be useable or turned off for the normal Arwing view.
    I know these controls are not perfect, And haven't been played to prove this theory, but I believe it should work better than the WiiU's original design.
    I also would make a better explained training mode to make the controls easier to understand.

      Thing is, they don’t. Absolutely. For what they’re trying to do, they’re basically perfect. The gyro is responsive and precise.
      Just spend a little time in practice mode, and press minus to use the cockpit view for aiming instead of watching the gamepad screen.
      It’s fine to say you didn’t like them. They’re not for everyone.
      But they suck? That’s just not true.

    I REALLY enjoyed this game. It's not quite up to 64, but I actually liked it a lot more than Assault on the GCN. I know the controls are a sticking point for a lot of people, and I do get that. I personally had no trouble adapting to them and I love the split screen experience, so for me this was fantastic. My biggest issues with the game don't even have anything to do with the controls, just that some levels aren't quite as good as the best in the franchise (pretty much any level with the gyrocopter kinda sucks, at least trying to medal them). The game also has an amazing co-op mode where one person uses a pro controller to fly the Arwing and shoot with the beak mounted blaster, and the other player uses the gamepad to play gunner with the main guns.

Hell, they could keep the gyro controls as a toggleable option if they really wanted to since it worked well in Splatoon.

  • @SoHBetaSword

    The Main-Issue, that I have with this Game, was shown to me with one of the early Gameplay-Videos:
    People missing PowerUps, because they were basically acting as the Gunner, instead of the Pilot.
    That made it quite clear to me, that this Game is only playable with 2 Players in Tandem.
    Simply switching out the Controls doesn'T help that major Design-Flaw.
    Alternatively, this should be changed to a System, that, by only using one screen, automatically collects and avoids obstacles while you're aiming.
    Or make it Multiplayer-Only, so that you need a second Player all the Time - Nah, and nowadays this should be done with online-Multiplayer, so both get a different View, as thje Switch only goes for 1 Screen at a Time.
    But Still, the Arwing isn't a downsized B-17 Flying Fortress, with 10 People on Board, and 4 of them being Gunners, working it's MGs.
    Yet some braindead had the almost-braindead Idea of turning a Fighter-Jet into a small B17-Mutation, with the Pilot beiing forced to also work as a Gunner.
    And I even liked the Graphics, despite of the Arwing looking way weaker than in StarFox Adventures.
    I loved the Original and 64, Adventures was mostly adventuring on a Planets Surface, but managed to squish some Arwing-Action in between Missions.
    But Seriously, for me to actually Play this Game, the "2-Roles-at-the-same-Time"-Bullshit has to be buried and paved Cement over!

      @@Theagentofchaos-r5q Mainly that they force you into a nonsensical layout by not allowing any configuration of the controls, when there was no reason they couldn't have. Assigning things like bombs, loops, rolls, etc, to flicking, _double-flicking_ or _clicking_ a thumbstick, when they left unused buttons on the face of the gamepad is a crime against user interface design.
      I've read reviews of this game that recommend playing it on an emulator, specifically so you can remap the controls to something you actually want. Why they did not include options to remap the buttons is something I will never be able to comprehend.

    • @sheetpostmodernist398
      @sheetpostmodernist398 5 месяцев назад

      @@Theagentofchaos-r5q So, first off, designing a game around a gimmicky control scheme is a garbage method of inducing fake difficulty. The game should be challenging to play, not control. I never understand why people actually believe this is a valid argument, or defend the developers for saying the controls are an integral part of the gameplay. There is _nothing_ that those controls do that could not be done with the original N64 controls, and done more reliably, so you don't have to rely on _double flicking a thumbstick_ and speedrunning your way to carpal tunnel.
      Keep in mind, I'm not talking about the gyro, or the screen. I'm speaking purely about their fascination with assigning what _should_ be button inputs to flicks of a thumbstick, and _pressing_ a thumbstick is an even worse option. I cannot count the number of times I have either pressed a thumbstick accidentally, or failed to click it when I needed. That is the first function I _always_ reassign in any game due to being an unreliable input. One of the biggest complaints I always read about is the inability to reliably either single or double flick the stick at the proper time to activate the desired input. All of those functions should have been assigned to buttons or D-pad directions (or just use the classic N64 combo system that worked so well). They had plenty of options, and don't bother to use any of them, or even _let_ anyone use them, even if they wanted.
      Two... I have no idea what you're asking.
      Three, I also have no idea why this is relevant to what I stated.

    Judging by the comments I am still in the minority of thinking the controls for this game are actually really good. They should have made the option to be able to switch control styles but still... It's wonky the first 5mins but after that I totally get what they were trying to get the player to do. I feel like an ace pilot when I am able to snipe an enemy on the other side of the screen with the flick of the wrist.
    Still salty of the disappointing failures of the Starfox franchised and I know Miyamoto is too. I freaking love the simple Saturday morning cartoon feel of Starfox but unfortunate Nintendo keeps shooting themselves in the foot with their new ideas for series. Miyamoto loves Starfox but can't get it to explode like Zelda or Mario. I fear Zero has delivered the final nail in the coffin for Starfox. It's simple math, Starfox does not sell anymore and the great reputation the game once had is ruined. It will now sit with the F-Zero franchise warming the bench seat.
