I’m glad that the guy in the first story ended up breaking it off with his fiancé BEFORE they got married. God, imagine the dispute that would’ve happened if she wanted to divorce and they didn’t have a prenup.
I bet all my money that if OP told the ex- gf she would had try move in or already did in the lake house with her bf and Op would have to deal with it try get her out of the house or the ex would lie and try get the court involved said it her house so OP dodge a nuke
Not as much as him breaking it off as much as her leaving him... I still want to know her reaction to him having bought the house before they got married though ( would have been hilarious)
Story 2: Sadie could've just told people she didn't want to participate in these activities, but no she decided to intentionally not take medication and have flare ups just so everyone had to cut things short. Is it possible that she did forget at least once? Yes, I believe it. Is this the case every time? No, there's a clear pattern that it's intentional.
I'd say that there's some acticities she wants to do on those vacations and can't do alone, so she has to follow others. So basically, she's so narcisitic and egotistic that she's ready to rune everyone else's vacations just to be able to enjoy hers and only hers.
Yeah, this is where I’m at. I’m disabled and there’s so many activities that I want to do, but I know I just can’t. I know that a quarter of the way through I’ll be in so much pain that I’ll need help getting back home and then I’ll probably be unable to do much for a day or two. Does it suck to watch your friends or family set off on a hike, or horseback ride, or on a rollercoaster while you stay behind? Yeah. It’s a bummer. But forcing them to turn around with you because you went with them and couldn’t handle it is worse. Sooooo much worse.
Story 2: As someone with a disability that is managed with medication, if not taken I can have a flare up, this friend SUCKS! She sucks for herself, TRUST ME, the feeling is horrible when I don't take my meds. She also sucks for her friends as well, how selfish. She's not being ableist, and I HATE when people use their disability as a weapon. I wouldn't apologize. You simply don't FORGET to take your meds on a consistent basis, that is NOT a thing. When I leave my house I do a phone, keys, wallet, pills check everytime. It's not that hard.
uh, i regularly forget to take my meds every day. its not on purpose, i justt.. forget? it absoltely happens, lmao?? IM NOT DEFENDING THE GIRL. she sucks!! im arguing against an objectively wrong statement. media literacy is dead.
@@bbasilgamingthat's the thing, she's using her disability to get out of doing things. On her day she set alarms and took them. She didn't on her friends days.
@@suspishfishy, i didn't say she wasn't. i said that because they said "you don't forget to take your meds on a consistent basis that is not a thing" when it absolutely is a thing. i thought that was obvious.
@@bbasilgamingI think the point of what they’re saying is that they clearly put in effort to remember on their day so it’s obvious it’s malicious on the days it’s not her day, cause she could put in the same effort on the other days if she was a good friend since she has a method in place to remember
There was an update with the lawyer story. He ended up apologizing to his niece (and she apologized for opening the office in the first place) and believe he started to teach her some stuff about being a lawyer, iirc. He put a lock on the door too from what I remember
@@alexthegr8estt Why would you have a lock on your office door to stop random visitors for invading your space ? This is insane. Visitors know (or should know) they don't have free run on your home.
Story 2: No, your friends need to stop making excuses she's not even hiding the fact that she doing this on purpose. How do you set alarms to take your medication on one day and then the very next day they're either off or she conveniently doesn't hear any of them? It's not able to call I'll be very inconsiderate and convenient way she forgets to take her medicine.
Right? If this chick has a touch phone, she can not only set an alarm, she can set multiple, on specific days and specific times. As well as *gasp* in advance, months in advance! (People, please catch the dripping sarcasm in that statement.) Plus, why couldn't she take the damn things with her? And if the meds are giving her such bad side effects, then don't join the group that day. Yeah, it's a bitch not being able to join in things because of health. I know that only all too well, but you do not do things like that to other people. Do you think she would have been OK with one of the group being sick and having to cancel on her day? Would that've bowed any sympathy from her? My money is on: she would be pissed and have some kind of tantrum because it has HER day and she only gets a couple of good days, blah, blah, blah. I hope I'm wrong and she isn't doing this on purpose and she would be decent but from the info we have, it doesn't seem like it.
Story 4 (Rename): I understand that the parents regret the name choices, but if the kids don't want to change their water-themed names, then that's it. Also, who cares if the internet hates your name, they can go cry about it.
Plus from the sound of it, it seems like they only started having regrets about the names after they saw a bunch of people trashing the names online. So they're not doing this honestly for the kids say it sounds more like they're doing it to make themselves feel better.
Yeah, OP’s parents can cry up a river all they want, but they can’t force their kids to do something they don’t want to do. They need to stop whining and reap what they sowed.
i don't even get why people would hate on the name or they'd be considered at all weird. cove and river in particular are just, Normal Names. ocean is the only one i'd raise an eyebrow at really, but it works and it's cute. if the kids are happy about it and nobody in their real life is giving them shit over their names (aside from the parents ig 💀) then it is truly such a non-issue
🤷♀️ At the very least, she definitely messed up a second chance for her family to get that house that was supposedly meant to be inherited to them. Even without context, it's quite evident why the late owner[s] didn't sign over their home to them...
That last story kinda reeks of the parents valuing the opinions of strangers on the internet instead of straight out asking the kids for their opinions in an honest and open conversation. Instead they already have new names decided, instead of asking the kids if they are unhappy with their names and in case they are, to then come up with a new name they themselves feel represent who they are
And let’s say they had a valid read to recommend renaming the kids, ask them what names they like and maybe meet in the middle if need be. Nope! Parents want to act like their kids are babies again. Some things in life can’t get a do over.
its very clear that the parents don't care about their kids' names, because its only NOW that they are concerned about how the names will limit them for jobs and how the kids could be teased for the names. if they really cared about it, they would have considered those things before they named their kids weird names.
I'm disabled to the point that I'm stuck in bed over 90% of the time. I basically only leave my bed to go to the bathroom and to go to the doctor. And it really really hurts even to walk to the restroom. That being said, I do everything I can to not be a burden on others. I need help in the bathroom. So I will hold it and not go pee for hours so my wife/caretaker can sleep. The friend in the second story is disabled but using it to be selfish. Call her out.
As someone with an autoimmune disease managed by medication, the girl in the 2nd story is DEFINITELY doing this on purpose. It's not that hard to just communicate with her friends, and if she really wanted to participate, she would take the meds. If I start having a flare while I'm on trips, I just take a minute to rest or go back to the hotel without holding my friends back. That's absurd
I was thinking the same thing. I have fibromyalgia and an autoimmune condition (depending on which doctor you ask?). Sometimes I flare during trips, during stressful situations, when I get poor sleep, etc. (I’m sure you know how it is). When I flare, what I need is a break or a rest or…you know…the meds I’m supposed to take. Sometimes a flare occurs during something I really want to do. Unfortunately, being chronically ill means that just happens and it becomes a choice whether or not to just do the thing anyway. If you need to stop something, that’s fair, but it shouldn’t involve everyone stopping everything to cater to you. It’s not fair of her to weaponize her condition. Her health is her responsibility, and her friends shouldn’t suffer for her convenience.
this, didn't like how rslash tried to pull the "she's just a dumb teen" card. 13 is old enough to know better. Hell I know better than to enter my parents room without permission at the age of 5.
Yeah she shouldnt have gone in the room but 13 year olds are stupid and do stupid things the OP is more stupid though because he is leaving sensitive court documents unsecured, he should at the very least have a lock on his office so people cant go in without permission and he should not be leaving them out on the desk where they can be seen while he's not in the office
Niece shouldn't have gone in. OP was way too harsh, though. A lot of lawyers in my family, and I can't imagine any of them going off like this. Either he is egregiously mishandling his paperwork to the point where her just sitting at the desk taking selfies risks compromising sensitive information (so he's just leaving sensitive stuff out in plain view), or he has other stuff hidden in that office that is more taboo.
@@Malcorpse dude, it's his house, 13 year old new the rule , he was out for line to curse at her but she's not a toddler with no impulse control lol she new she wasn't supposed to be in there
@@Arylwren1and in other posts the brat also had her feet propped up on his desk. People are mad at OP for not having a lock. However these people should know to follow the rules
I know that Dabney records these in advance, but in story 3 the OP did update the post stating he apologized to his niece and will locking his home office in the future.
Great to hear. If you have work document or anything that needs to be kept away from public eye, it's your responsability to make sure that nobody see them, so a lock is the minimum. It's like with Allergies : it's your responsability to avoid those you are sensitive to, to the point of telling others to not cook anything to you with those if the situation happen.
@Juju2927 One time I told somebody. I was allergic to pomegranates, and they fed me pomegranate to test it, and I ended up getting hives on my hands that burst 🫠
@@Agender_Potato I'm talking about on the stories dude, on Reddit duh Literally Lost Gerne and Mark do a better job at looking at updates and looking at relevant comments.
About the "no going into my cabinet" story: Back in the wild 90s my uncle lost an eye, got a few bones broken and could've very easily lost his life as he was kidnapped and tortured by a mob. He was a journalist specializing on investigative work and had some sensitive papers in his bedroom that also served as his workspace, so noone else was allowed there. During my auntie from other side of the family's visit her daughter got bored and went into uncle's bedroom, found some markers and began to draw on various papers. She was soon discovered, scolded and booted out, with auntie shouting back very similar arguments of her being "just a child" and "not hurting anyone". Some days later the girl was sitting in her arts and crafts and decided to drew something she saw on those papers in uncle's bedroom. She didn't know what it was, just thought it looked pretty. Well, it was a very particular plant (can't say which, as it is outlawed pretty much all over the world, so take a wild guess). Her teacher of course asked where she saw that, and the girl pointed at her uncle. The teacher informed the police, the gang uncle was digging dirt on had their informant in the force, and since the teacher told them uncle's full credentials, it was kinda a matter of time from there for things to get nasty. And mind you, all that happened in an era when a "home computer" wasn't yet a concept, not to say mobile phones or social networks. Now look at the situation OP found himself in. Let's say this girl takes a selfie and in the corner of it just happens to be some very sensitive paper caught in the frame by sheer accident. OP might get fined. OP might lose the case. OP might lose his license. Or even share my uncle's misfortune, if he's really unlucky. Some information is akin to a bomb. Imagine yourself coming home and seeing your wife and kid playing horse with an old shell you had stored in the closet you specifically told them not to go into. And when you nearly lose it from a panic attack, they both go "oh, what's the big deal, we were just playing, why so serious".
@@minabee369 dude if you only have like one lock a front door lock at that you’re just asking to get fired. fun fact. And is why these should have been locked up. In all of your examples the things should have been locked up. Because there is always the potential for human interference and people getting into things they shouldn't
7:36 As a person with a Disability, im on OP's side, They're NOT being ableist, Sadie is using her Disability as a crutch for getting out of anything she doesn't wanna do, Meds or no Meds, having a Disability doesn't give you the right to ruin other people's experiences just because you don't wanna do em.
Office story: while harsh, OP is a justified jerk here. Not only did his guest break the one rule he clearly stated, but even if she's just a kid, clients and opponents won't care. Remember that Apple employee that lost his job and almost got sued because his kid accidentally took photos of and uploaded to Facebook or something some top secret stuff the dad was in part working on? Yeah. OP potentially faced that, too. Sure, he should have handled it diplomatically, but I get why he immediately went off the handle.
Exactly, I see it as an ESH. While justified, he shouldn't have gone off like that, at the same time, a 13 year old should know better than to go somewhere they're not supposed to. And if she really does want to be a lawyer like him someday, she should know the importance of confidential. Instead, she went in like she was told not to, and then started taking selfies.
OP isn't the jerk here. There future updates and he reveals that he ended up getting fired since one of the pictures she posted had sensitive documents in them and his sister was completely unapologetic about it. In other words, he was completely right to be mad since it ended up leading to the very thing he feared.
@@1stNinjaM OP isn't the jerk because he was mad, it's because of his response to his niece. You don't just turn around to your niece and call her a little bitch. It's an ESH situation. Is OP justified for getting angry and acting like a jerk, yes, but that doesn't make them not a jerk. You can be an asshole, and still be justified. Also, that update contradicts the other people who have found updates saying he apologized to his niece and got a lock for the door.
*First OP:* It _was_ OP's ex's fault her family didn't get the house. If she hadn't left OP for her high school boyfriend (I feel like her friends might've invited him as a surprise), she would've known OP bought the house for her as a surprise. OP is NTA. *Second OP:* Considering how the only time Sadie took her medications was when they were doing an activity she planned, OP was right to call her out on her behavior. OP is NTA. *Third OP:* I was with OP until he called his niece the B-word. A simple, "I told you not to go into my office! Get out of here!" Would've sufficed. OP is TA. *Fourth OP:* Why weren't OP's parents concerned about OP's and his siblings' futures when they initially named them? Why are their names their responsibility? OP and his siblings are NTAs. Dabney Michael Bailey, huh? Nice
Story 3: I am still with OP. When my literal job and the livelyhoods and possibly even lives of multiple people (depending of what law he practices) are on the line because she could compromise when SHE WAS EXPLICITLY TOLD TO NOT GO IN AND WHAT DID SHE DO?????

Story 3: Yeah, OP went nuclear with his words, but he literally only had ONE RULE! And the mom's response to jeopardizing your job is "she's just a kid"? Give me a break. Don't get me wrong, I do agree with the ESH verdict and that OP needs to get a lock for the door. I just hate the "boys will be boys" and "she's just a kid" excuses.
Exactly. Especially since, if she had accidentally leaked information online in one of her selfies, his job and the courts won't care that "she's just a kid." They'll still disbar OP for letting confidential information be leaked.
I hate the "she's just a kid" argument because I feel it's what's wrong with current society. Teenage is not childhood anymore. It's the time when you learn how to follow rules and start to learn how to be an adult and take responsibility. It's the middle stage between childhood and adulthood. You aren't really either one.
I wouldn't use the language he used, but it's clear the niece didn't get the message when he talked to her nicely about the one rule. Perhaps it's the only language which will get through to her. R/Slash seems to have missed too that anything could have been captured in the background of the stupid selfies she was taking.
Exactly! I had to scroll way too far for this answer, the kid was 13! Not 5! 13 hears old is well o er old enough to listen to the rules when given especially if it's 1 rule that could cost op their job, the language was harsh but op getting fired would have been way harsher and would be the kids fault and the kid would feel guilty about it for a long time
Story 2: I recently went to Universal on a school trip. The first day I forgot to take my motion sickness meds and ended up getting really sick on some rides. You know what I did? Managed to find someone who was heading back to the hotel and went back with them. I didn’t make my friends leave because I wasn’t feeling well. At the absolute worst case scenario, one of the friends could drive her home and come back. All of you did not need to go back to wherever you were staying. She’s definitely trying to sabotage
Story 2: Unfortunately, the term "ableist" is a red flag to me. I'm not saying it isn't a real thing, it 100% is, but I've only ever seen accusations of ableism in 2 contexts: -Self-diagnosed people getting defensive when you question the legitimacy of their diagnosis and/or call BS when they say the condition they claim to suffer from isn't that big of a deal. (not that big of a deal as in, there's no necessity to get treatment because you supposedly can live perfectly fine with it) -People suffering from a condition and/or their enablers trying to use said condition as an excuse for crappy behavior when you aren't buying it.
Yeah it really makes it hard for people with legitimate disabilities, especially the “invisible” ones that are immediately visible when you interact with someone.
I understand that, but as someone who is mentally disabled and have had to deal with ableism for a lot of my life, it's not as big of a red flag as you make it out to be. It is a very serious issue that a lot of people deal with, and should not be dismissed as something simple like that. My parents had to struggle getting me an IEP plan while I was at school because my principal was an ableist, saying she didn't believe in ADHD and that I was just faking it. Thankfully they were able to get it and get me the help I needed, but she was a constant thorn in my side for elementary school, and for the rest of school as well, since she ended up being demoted to vice-principal of the middle-high school after it was found out she was locking students in closets until their parents came to get them and pulling them by the ear when they misbehaved.
@@AzureKyle That's my whole point, abelism is a real thing that truly happen, but unfortunately most of the time people who throw around accusations of ableism aren't the victims of it.
@@AzureKyle I never considered my ADHD to be a disability (so what if I had a hard time paying attention at school and keeping still). Just to put into perspective I lost 4 fingers in an accedent. however, Iv never in my life even thought someone was an ablest. I never limited myself. Some things are harder for me, true. but, everyone struggles in some aspect of life and if we all start pointing fingers(lol) and victimizing ourselves we will never get out of shit we're in. The world isn't fair you got to make the best of what you got.
Story: ESH. OP's reaction was over the top, but honestly, his anger is justified. Her actions could have literally cost him years of his life and hundreds of thousands of dollars simply because she was curious. Law school is very expensive. If those photos got posted and something accidentally ended up on social media, OP would have wasted his entire law career including the years in law school, whatever loans he took out to pay for it, and would have to redo his entire adult life. Should he have cursed at her? No. However, his anger was righteous, and the consequences of her being in there could have been incredibly horrific. He needs locks, but 13 is old enough to understand actions have consequences
Thank you I was looking for this comment because I was literally thinking about the same thing like this thousands upon thousands of dollars that someone spent on law school and then getting disbarred and their whole career being ruined because a 13-year-old decided they were curious like yeah it sucks when someone yells at you, but it was definitely justified because that could cost him like his whole life
With the kids names: it would be one thing if the kid was less than 6 months old. These kids are teenagers? You had so much time when they were younger to fix it before they spent YEARS with their names. If they want to change them, they will. I also understand if you give one kid a "bad" name, but if you feel that way about three kids names? I don't think the issue is with the kids
@@ashleynadeau8346 I like the name River. I know a few people named River or Rivers. Not completely sold on ocean though. I could get behind cove maybe as a middle name or a nickname
What a lot of people don't realize is that a lot of names are place names. Sylvia? Forest. Shirley? Bright Meadow. So any story where people are named Ocean, Meadow, or Sky I just shrug. BTW my own name is a virtue, which is another old naming tradition.
Story 1: it's not your fault they lost it in the first place and it's not your fault they don't have it now. This wasn't an act of revenge, and neither is your refusal to sell it. This is now your home where you live and you don't have to give them anything just because they really want it, to dad so sad.
All the "woman's" relatives have to do is look up the date of sale. That would proved he did this prior to the "woman" breaking off the engagement. So NO revenge.
Story 4: To be fair, River isn’t as weird as a name as Ocean and maybe Cove, but I think this is one of the few times that the kids like their weird names in post and the parents regretting it.
It's hilarious that so many parents want to name their kids something "unique," like River. I personally know at least 6 kids named River, just from friends and family. I don't know a single Michael. 😂
Story 4: like this is something they should have thought of when they were naming you in the first place, they have to live with what they did and respect your choice after all you're the one who's going to have to live with it. You're aware of the situation so all right, besides you can always change it but it is easier to do it now but you don't want to now. Also the be 100%, River is actually a common name, Cove sounds admittedly pretty cool, and believe it or not this is actually not the first time I heard Ocean as a name so I get the feeling it's going to catch on.
Story 1: buying the house out of revenge wasn't the initial plan, the original idea was for OP and her ex to move in together after they married, and OP surprised his ex after the wedding, but after the blindside OP realized "hey, this is actually a nice house that legally own, so mine now"
God, Story 2 reminds me so much of my ex. She would constantly be bed ridden but somehow becomes miraculously healed when a convention would come around but then back to bed ridden. And when Sadie yelled Ableist, my mind just went into a whirlpool of memories. I would have made the AH score higher for her but thats cause the connections are just way to similar.
I'm disabled, a bit like Sadie. Sometimes I flare up during group activities. I take my meds and wait and hold back tears because I'm not a party pooper.
Story 3 (Lawyer Story): There was an update where OP acknowledged he was the AH and apologised to his niece who also apologised for breaking the rule. OP was also able to explain to the niece about the importance of confidentiality and how to be a lawyer, so they were able to have a bonding moment over it.
First story, obviously NTA but I was wondering what was up with them losing it due to an inheritance dispute then here are her parents going 'lost them the house again'. Guess she's a problem around her family too. Second story, NTA and I think it's time to contact Sadie's doctor. Taking your medication on time is a *serious* deal and it's clear either Sadie is faking flare ups or she's purposefully not taking her meds and is causing damage to her body. It's not like she'd be allowed to complain either because OP can claim it's because she's a 'worried friend'.
Story 3: OP could loose his job and potentially get jailtime. Yeah, he could have locked the door but "Oh noooo, just some dumb teen being innocent" doesn't look so quirky when someone might loose their livelyhood because of it (after loosing their license), considering job market in 2024
See, OP was justified in being angry, and I even support most of what he said, I'm sure I would've said something along the lines of GTFO. However, he lost me when he called his niece a "little bitch". I would hold it against him less if he called her "little shit" or "brat" instead, but the escalation to "bitch" for a 13 yo girl feels extreme. 13 is a very delicate age, because they're just starting to find themselves, and it can be especially hard for girls; on top of that "bitch" has such a long history of being used to put women down, so the idea of using it for a 13 yo girl leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That said, she is absolute a little shit for breaking OP's one rule and 100% deserved the "get the fuck out and stay out" part
In a final update, OP revealed DID lose his job at the firm because one of the pictures the niece took contained sensitive information. And his sister was not apologetic.
If I were The Opie, I'd just say explicitly that if The Sadie would be coming, then I *wouldn't* be, because I'm tired of pisssing away money on activities that she torpedoes with her convenient "disability". And yeah, put in quotes. Ranger? _"Well, _*_you_*_ can take her back, but I'm still going."_ If he pulls some You Will Respect Mah Authoritah crap, I'd be cursing her out loud'n'long for everybody to hear.
Story 3: Unfortunately whether the niece was being malicious or not, the results would be the same if she leaked sensitive documents in her stupid selfies. The damage would be done. She was plenty old enough to understand the one clear condition on her and her mother being allowed to stay in OP’s residence, and she broke it almost immediately without a second thought. I think OP’s reaction, in the heat of the moment, was totally understandable. The fact that neither she or her mother were remotely sorry makes it even worse.
a dumb teen? if anyone knew he exposed "a dumb teen" to court documents, things could have gone very very badly, for both the cases he handles & his career...
>Sadie takes her pills as prescribed and has a great day >Sadie doesn't take her pills as prescribed and has constant flare ups >When told she should just take her medicine, Sadie says "you don't know what the pills do to me" Seems like we ALL know that the pills MAKE YOU BETTER and that your intentionally not taking them is the only negative effects you get from them. Edit: If she doesn't want to do something, then she just shouldn't go to the thing to begin with.
I'm disabled and need to take medication to manage it. One of my disabilities even causes memory issues, making remembering to take the meds even harder. Sadie has absolutely zero legs to stand on - there are so many ways to manage medication and make sure you take it. When I hang out with friends or engage in similar activities, my medication is on my person at all times. Her behaviour also seems really self-destructive as she's likely on that medication for a reason and not taking it is just hurting herself and everyone around her. Often times you HAVE to consistently take medication for it to even work properly, so even outside of her clearly malicious actions, this behaviour has to stop.
Op in the thrid story: NTA, i dont think some of you considerd that if one of those selfies had a court document in it or she tamperd with something she didn't understand, it could fuck up the whole case and he could lose his lisence aka his lively hood. That would have been 8 years of college and hundreds of thousands of dollars still unpaid in debt. A 13 year old can listen to simple instructions, she must have made a beeline for that office immediately if she got comfy enough to kick up her feet.
the lawyer story, which part of ''not entering op's office'' that niece dont understand? does she expecting op like "woah, woah you cant go in there ,and then singing disney song of the whole new world of lawyering''?
In a final update of story 3, OP revealed he DID lose his job at the firm because one of the pictures the niece took contained sensitive information. And his sister was not apologetic. So the "she's just a kid" excuse really means nothing when that kid lost the man his job because she could not follow *ONE* singular rule.
Story 1: NTA. OP bought it as a wedding present, and she broke up before the wedding. Simple as that. Story 2: NTA, Sadie has weaponized her disability. Story 3: The first thing I wondered was why that door wasn't at least locked. Story 4: That's why here in Italy naming laws are restrictive, they aren't taking risks with parents that want to use creative names (a few years ago a couple tried to name their son Friday after the Robinson Crusoe character, and got slammed because here that name has humiliating connotations). That said, they're old enough to decide if they like their names, NTA.
Story 1: If I remember this story, OP said that they offered WAY below what OP bought it for, meaning they basically wanted him to eat all the cost, for his _Cheating_ Ex.
I was born with a disability and therefore haven't always been great about taking my pills as well as not always understanding when I should and shouldn't accept invitations depending on my health. Not ONCE have I ever made my forgetting to take pills, nor my disease flaring up spontaneously anyone's problem but mine, and in the event I had no choice, I would apologize up and down like crazy. I know it's not my fault, but it's even less the fault of anyone else. I'm their shoes, I would have done everything in my power to remember to take my meds, AND I would back out before anyone else was affected of the pills either were forgotten or weren't working, ESPECIALLY with fricken horseback riding! That's one of the most painful and difficult activities for people with physical disabilities. You're absolutely right Dabney, she's being manipulative. It's clearest by the fact that she was only able to do _her_ activity.
Op shouldn’t relax because it is his job at risk. Also the possibility of a case being corrupted. She doesn’t have to be ruffling through anything it could just be the perception.
My dad was talking to one of his coworkers and his coworker was like "check out the beach house I own" then he proceeded to show my dad pictures of my mom's parents beach house from before I was born. My dad proceeded to play dumb and then the next time he met up with the guy he was like check out the pictures of the beach house my wife's parents used to own and then proceeded to show him the old pictures of it and the guy was apparently shocked.
13 is *more* than old enough to understand that off limits *means* off limits. OP stated it as his *ONLY* rule! Come on! Edit: WHOA! OP was WAY too harsh in response! I was completely on your side til you called your *13 year old niece* the B word...
The story about op who bought the lake house for his ex-girlfriend is that op needs to file for a protection order against his ex-girlfriend's family for harassment since op bought the lake house fair and square from the realtor company
Relating to story 3: a close friend of mine lost her job the very first day because she posted a picture of her desk saying I'm really excited about my new job on Facebook. The company said she was fired for revealing confidential information. I saw the picture. There wasn't a single piece of paperwork on her desk and the only thing on the desktop was a blue screen, the date and the time.
Office story: I heard Rslash say wow. I’m just drawing thinking nothing of it. Looking to my phone saying “huh. Wonder why he’s reacting like that” and not a second later when I heard what he said. I too wowed
That was excessive even if the info is very private. Also why OP didn't use a lock? Like when I go somewhere either in town or vacation I lock my room door so my 2 nephews won't go in there.
@@1985toyotacamry You young kids are way too sensitive to words period. Her actions were far more nefarious than his harsh words. Girls like her grow up into women who are much worse.
Seriously! Yeah, the niece was in the wrong for going into the office when she was told not to, literally no one is arguing otherwise(despite that some people in these comments seem to think so), but calling her a bitch was so unjustified! This really was just teen girl shit! Teens disobey the adults in their lives, it's just a blatant statement of fact, that doesn't give the adults the right to throw insults at them! I never would have looked at my uncles or aunts the same way again if they had ever called me a bitch during my teen years!
Story 2, I have lifelong joint pain that got pretty bad in high school. During school amusement park trip, I was in a group of 4 people. I also get really motion sick (unrelated to the joint pain). I was having a pretty rough joint day, despite taking care to try to avoid it. You know what happened when the group wanted to go on a spinny roller coaster? I sat out patiently with everyone's bags. It gave me a chance to rest and let everyone else do the fun rides. And in turn? They helped us look for tamer rides that I'd enjoy, even though they were out of the way. This woman in the story just wants everyone to do what she wants. Misery loves company? And none of that ableist nonsense. She's leading herself into flare-ups and then taking everyone down with her mid-event instead of sitting it out. OP NTA, at all.
I'm disabled and do everything possible to accommodate my friends and family because I'm ever so grateful they accommodate me whenever humanly possible.
Even if those kids wanted to change their names they're plenty old enough to decide what they want their new names to be, rather than having the parents decide for them
Story 3: idk, like op was maube too harsh. But at the same time taking their word for it, if he could be disbarred i think a freakout like that is kinda justified. The kids well old enought to understand and listen, and they put OPs livelyhood at risk. They spent years to get to where they are, i can see and 100% understand freaking out when that all could just disappear.
The friend in the second story had flare ups when it was everyone else's turn but her own. She's using these flare ups to get out things she doesn't want to do.
Soltory 3: Definitely an ESH. Kid broke the rules, and she was old enough to know better than to enter her uncle's room. And let's be honest, Rslash; even if she was just being a dumb teen she could have done a lot of damage there. OP is TA because he yelled at his nice - well, mot for the yelling part, but for what he yelled at her. That, and he's doing a bad job at keeping stuff secured. Also, there was an update, OP basically said he'll have more security measures installed and he also apologized to his niece, and everything was well after.
Story 4: It seems messed up to start off with "we gave you a bad name". You are insulting their name. I would have said "we realize that the water themed names we gave you arent very common and we were wondering how you feel about your names. Do you like them?" Let them decide if their name is "bad" or not and let them decide what they want to do.
NO no no no, Story 3, he was fully justified to me as mad as he was. Like the OP said, if any documents where in those pics, they could ruin ANY case they are related to, he could get fired, sued, and his carrier destroyed. He had ONE rule, do not go into his office. Not only did she do that, she was TAKING PICTURES
But nothing justifies calling a 13-year-old girl a little b-word. As justified as his anger was, his outrage was not. He went way overboard when he could’ve just simply talk to her about it instead of getting angry, or if he was going to get angry, he could’ve just simply said “get out” and that would be it.
@@grizzly_manbanimation8436 please, lets not use the defense that they are 13, kids can be little bitches, and will do things just because they where told not to.
I have a name that means Earth, and my middle name is a variant spelling of sky, and my sister's name means fire, and her middle name is straight up rain. We love our names and think they're way better than the millions of Michaels, Davids, and whatnot out there. And judging by the trend of what trans kids are naming themselves, by the the gen Z grows up and starts having kids, those types of names will become more common.
In a not so alternative universe r/slash would also rip the niece apart for being 13 and being old enough to listen to the uncles rule about his office. The niece would just have to be a nephew though for that response.
yeah i think a lot of the 'she's too young to know' thing comes from him now having a daughter. a thirteen year old is absolutely old enough to respect the one boundary that someone puts up in their house
So, I have chronic illness and even though the medication I take makes me feel absolutely miserable (it makes it feel like my skin crawl and I get chills, causing anxiety) it is totally better than what I feel like without them. I even have alarms on my phone to make sure I take them so I don't flare up. I don't know, if she hates her meds that much that maybe she should just set it out because she is just holding her friends back doing stuff they want to do.
Story 3: I ended up with a disorderly conduct conviction because of something similar to this so i have no sympathy for this 13 year old. Sure its only a minor misdemeanor from my college days, but still. My attorney had a lock on his office at his home office and he was specific to family and guests that no one can go in there and why. It was likely i was going yo get a dismissal bevause they couldnt prove their case. I had a psychiatric breakdown and couldve just plead guilty but because the witness was barred as untrustworthy they had no evidence but my conversation with the attorney via email in privileged communication i explained to him what happened because you should always bs honest with your lawyer. He had emailed me about the dismissal so the email chain was up but then his son fell off a table and got hurt so he rushed out to attend to him to make sure he was okay (his son was 1 at the time, he was okay, thankfully) but in the time that that that was happening his 15 year old niece went into his office to "play lawyer" and took selfies for instagram. My emails were still up in the background and were used to where i ended up pleading guilty instead of having a dismissal because the nieces friend was the DAs daughter and the DA followed her on instagram and she recognized my name in the bold and zoomed in to read. He didnt lock the door for one time in an emergency-like situation but did close the door and everyone knows the rule and its never been tested before. But the niece saw the door sas unlocked from the living room where her cousin fell and instead of varing for her cousin took the opportunity to "go play lawyer" and messed uo everything. So while i get that OP maybe shouldnt have been so rude, u can care less. Thankkfully it was only a disorderly conduct charge and i took a plea deal to only have a fine instead of 30 days in jail, but it was going to be dismissed!!! What if this was someone charged with sometjing more serious in a similar situation and now just because of this entitled brat for instagram clout is sitting years in jail when it couldve been dismissed? So i have no synpathy for thay child. She needed a wake up call because children dont realize the real world consequnces their seemingly innocent mistakes can cause people.
Thank you so very much for your detailed and personal take on this story. So many people are preoccupied with the language directed towards the nice rather than the weight of her actions having long-term consequences and an outward ripple for multiple people.
@@FluorescentPhnix1 she was punished, he did apologize and he paid my fine for me. It wasn't a huge gesture but he did do that and he waived the rest of my payment arrangement (I made one of 5 payments at that point so it was a decent chunk of money). She also was reprimanded by the judge when he brought up what happened and he ordered her to like 50 hours of community service for whatever he decided it was for because he was upset that she had such disregard for the court. I was able to qualify for having my record sealed too because in my state if it is my first offense and it is a E5 misdemeanor or lower and I am record-free for 3 years post conviction I can pay to have it sealed. I was able to be successful in that and he represented me for free in the ability to have it sealed. But mine was low level. If this happened to someone else who was accused of something way more serious, like a felony, it wouldn't be so easy to correct
why do adults think that teenagers are just the most stupid people on the planet? when i was 13, i would have DEFINITELY known better than to intrude a lawyers office, the ah scores should be flipped
Agreed, teenagers are not as stupid as people make them out to be and there way too much that some teenagers get away with because "they're just a kid." They're a kid who understands the gravity of the situation. I only recently became not a teenager and everyone in my general age group for multiple towns around knew better too. I think some adults think they are soooo stupid because they forgot how it was to be an actual teenager and only base their memories on the stupid things that they did previously.
Better question would be why you think the very much adult OP is not responsible for locking the door or at the very least not leaving confidential documents strewn around for everyone to see?
Nah I’m disabled, I have permanent nerve damage which has left me mostly bedridden due to being in constant pain, have associated mobility issues and rely on pain medication. I do not sign up for things I know I cannot manage but make sure those around me never feel guilty for doing these activities just because I can’t, I shouldn’t stop their happiness and enjoyment because I can find something mobility friendly to do. My best friend/flatmate (also carer) likes going for walks, I love historic sites, so we visit old castles (Scottish Highlands) and he can go for a wander and I’ll visit the castle gardens and admire their flowers and take loads of photos of bees and butterflies, sometimes he’ll join me to get amazing closeup pics of the bees and butterflies instead of going for a walk because he loves the images he captures, sometimes I feel mobile enough for a gentle walk with loads of breaks and we’ll wander together. If I can’t do something I’ll just tell him “go have fun! There’s nothing to feel guilty for, I don’t wanna ruin your enjoyment just because I can’t do something, not everything in the world is catered to me and that’s perfectly okay!” Sadie however expects the world to jump when she commands it, expects to pull stunts on purpose to ruin everyone else’s day, is somehow unable to communicate “I don’t want to do X activity so will do something else that won’t upset my disability, please go enjoy yourself”, she instead wants to ruin everyone’s day and make them miserable and angry with her, she refuses to acknowledge that she is the problem and actively wasting everyone’s money, she’s going on holidays knowing how much these activities mean to her friends and intentionally ruins their enjoyment by refusing to take her medications. She’s not a good friend, she’s weaponising her disability to make everyone do what she wants, she’s making it hard for her friends to speak up because she accuses them of being ableist and that makes her friends too scared to speak, she’s using her disability to essentially ruin everyone’s time when around her and demand they bow to her needs, that if they don’t they are clearly ableist. She’s not a good friend and I’d honestly be cutting her from my life, ain’t no way I’d wanna deal with someone who’s constantly selfish and intentionally doesn’t take her medications to upset other people.
Permanently disabled here, with prosthetics and a slew of medications that have a horrible effect on me. If the friend is able to set alarms to remind herself on the day she wanted to, then she was able to set those same alarms to remind herself on the other days. I know not all disabilities are equal, but if I know I'm going to be low capacity *I advise those who might be affected*. It's just common courtesy.
Story 3: I was 1000% on OP's side until he called his 13 year old niece a b-word. I can understand the "get the f out" part though ideally he shouldn't be cursing. But calling her a b word makes him an AH too.
Story 2: Op as someone with a disability you're nta telling someone with a condition to take there medication and saying they'll be consequences if you don't is not being ableist that's called being a decent human being. Story 3: Op you're not a butthole for having boundaries however you are a butthole for the over the top extreme reaction way to scar a kid for life. Story 4: imagine your parents saying that the name they gave them aka your identity was a mistake and want to change it then when you say no they try and sneak behind your back to change it wow talk about being selfish.
ok, while I agree OP in the third story is a butthole, let's not go over the top. No one is gonna be scarred for life for being called the B-word and if they are, they obviously had previous problems that caused it.
Story 2: totally agree. the feeling of not taking my meds is so uncomfortable. I can't imagine not taking my meds, or somehow forgetting to take them on a regular basis. When I am out with friends, I'm even more diligent about it. Plus all my friends don't know about it. I can't wrap my head around someone "forgetting" to take their meds, or not communicating their boundaries to the point of holding back others.
@@miniman649 some people react to anger from a parental figure differently and it can have a lasting effect, at the very minimum she'll be frightened to approach op for a while.

While Story 3 OP definitely overreacted, saying that the niece is just a dumb kid is a terrible excuse. 13yrs is enough to understand to respect rules. Niece honestly sounds like a brat and the mother is terrible for excusing her behaviour.
5:15 the real way to deal with Sadie is to say, if you have a flare up you have to go home. Or to say, we'll do your day last, if you have no flate ups we'll do your day. But if you have flare-ups, we can just cut yoru trip short. Fact of the matter is that dividing a trip into 7 is better than into 6 so it's not just Sadie manipulating, they all get something out of it that's why they keep Sadie around.
As someone who has limited physical abilities, not necessarily disabled, just horrible balance from cerebral palsy, i could never do that. I would feel so bad holding my friends back. I know my limits and I do my best to make sure im aware of things I should sit out because its just not safe for me
The lawyer in the third story needs to chill out. Yeah, the 13 year old should know better than to just walk into someone’s office. However, calling them a “little bitch” and telling them to “get the fuck out” is insane.
@@GiordanDiodatohe should have had a lock on his office for when he has people over, especially if he’s just gonna let kids be unsupervised in his house 😂
Maybe I understand (not condone) cursing and telling her to “get the fuck out” in the heat of the moment, but I kinda stopped understanding after he called her a “little bitch.” If he is that worried about the information, the room should probably have a lock?
I was 10 when I was driving a tractor and plowing fields on our farm. If I can be responsible at 10, she should be even more responsible at 13. She's proof that her parent never punished her for her bad actions. The 13 year old should get a higher BH score than the lawyer.
With home office story, and OP's rule of not going in there. At some point during the story I was thinking about exactly what you (rslash) brought up at the end. That OP should have a lock of some kind lock on the door. And if OP added the cabinets for the files that can be locked (as you said), then OP would of doubled up on the security for the files.... the locked cabinets and the doors locks. As for the neice, she could of went to OP and told her that she (the neice) wanted to become a lawyer and wanted to see her office (and maybe ask questions).... I know and understand, what some will bring up. That doing something like that, wouldn't of crossed the minds of a kid that age.
Story 3 - rslash Hell no. The neice is 13, not 3. She was given a clear instruction and she outright ignored it. She put OP's job and depending on the law, the livelihood (and maybe even lives if he is criminal defence). If she can't follow basic instructions.... OP is NTA, no doubt. OP lives on his own - why does he need to put an additional lock on the door
8:11 if you habitually forget your medication and setting an alarm works to remind you to take them, keep the alarm set. If it's because of the side effects you talk to your doctor.
Lawyer office story: I don't think the lawyer is a butthole at all. Sure, he shouldn't have yelled or sworn at her, but she was given one rule and one rule only: stay out of my office. Maybe he felt that at 13 she could have simply complied with that one regulation in his home. To be compliant and she let herself in there to take pictures around sensitive documentation. Many have argued that he should have had a lock on the door or had the papers filed away. The guy lives alone. Again, it's obvious that he expected his sister and niece to have more respect for his house rules. I've heard this story before. I know that her mother totally brushed aside and excused her behavior by saying she was “just a kid.” Showing what a spineless wimp the guy is, he apologized and took them to dinner at an expensive restaurant. Smh. The niece clearly has no respect for boundaries zero regard for the word no being a complete sentence and nothing resembling a sense of accountability. Given the reaction of her mother, I'm not surprised she doesn't understand these concepts. After all, how can children learn these realities of the world when even their own parents don't understand or, more accurately, don't care?
Story 3 reminds me of a trailer I saw for a spy movie. Spy: You're about to be in very big trouble, young lady. Stepdaughter: Won't YOU be in trouble? You just got your cover blown by a nine-year-old.
That name story blows my mind. Cove and River are WAY better than James, Michael, and Charles. And disrespecting the parents? How? They're respecting the original names you gave them. THEY like them, so WHY does it matter that YOU'VE changed YOUR mind about liking them? Also, I think anytime after 5 would be a very difficult time to change your whole identity like that. Why can't the parents respect their children's decision? Why can't they just let them change their names on their own dime later, if they even ever want to?
@@TimothyBauman616 I've watched every single rSlash video. That story does absolutely nothing to change my mind. It's also objectively not the same as this one. Thanks for wasting my time.

Especially when the ONLY day she DIDN'T FORGET to take your medication was on the day they participated in HER activities of choice.
I'd say that there's some acticities she wants to do on those vacations and can't do alone, so she has to follow others.

Right? If this chick has a touch phone, she can not only set an alarm, she can set multiple, on specific days and specific times. As well as *gasp* in advance, months in advance! (People, please catch the dripping sarcasm in that statement.)
Plus, why couldn't she take the damn things with her? And if the meds are giving her such bad side effects, then don't join the group that day. Yeah, it's a bitch not being able to join in things because of health. I know that only all too well, but you do not do things like that to other people.

Yeah, OP’s parents can cry up a river all they want, but they can’t force their kids to do something they don’t want to do. They need to stop whining and reap what they sowed.

I honestly think she cheated on OP and was just too afraid to say it. You know her friends aren't going to say anything.
i’m so glad someone else noticed that. i smell a cheater
Wouldn't be surprised if she kept meeting the Ex while being with op

While op was harsher than necessary, she is absolutely old enough to know not to go in a room that she was told not to go in.
this, didn't like how rslash tried to pull the "she's just a dumb teen" card.

Great to hear. If you have work document or anything that needs to be kept away from public eye, it's your responsability to make sure that nobody see them, so a lock is the minimum.

About the "no going into my cabinet" story:
Back in the wild 90s my uncle lost an eye, got a few bones broken and could've very easily lost his life as he was kidnapped and tortured by a mob.
Agreed. His harsh words pale in comparison to the danger that she could have caused to his career.

Not 5! 13 hears old is well o er old enough to listen to the rules when given especially if it's 1 rule that could cost op their job, the language was harsh but op getting fired would have been way harsher and would be the kids fault and the kid would feel guilty about it for a long time
So your saying a 13 year old should get cussed at?
Story 2: I recently went to Universal on a school trip. The first day I forgot to take my motion sickness meds and ended up getting really sick on some rides. You know what I did? Managed to find someone who was heading back to the hotel and went back with them. I didn’t make my friends leave because I wasn’t feeling well. At the absolute worst case scenario, one of the friends could drive her home and come back. All of you did not need to go back to wherever you were staying. She’s definitely trying to sabotage
That’s exactly what you should do. I would never stop my friends from doing stuff just because I can’t.
Story 2: Unfortunately, the term "ableist" is a red flag to me. I'm not saying it isn't a real thing, it 100% is, but I've only ever seen accusations of ableism in 2 contexts:
-Self-diagnosed people getting defensive when you question the legitimacy of their diagnosis and/or call BS when they say the condition they claim to suffer from isn't that big of a deal. (not that big of a deal as in, there's no necessity to get treatment because you supposedly can live perfectly fine with it)
-People suffering from a condition and/or their enablers trying to use said condition as an excuse for crappy behavior when you aren't buying it.
Yeah I agree.
Tbh, River isn't even that bad of a name. Ocean and Cove are kinda hit or miss for me, but they like their names so it's cool with me.

All the "woman's" relatives have to do is look up the date of sale. That would proved he did this prior to the "woman" breaking off the engagement. So NO revenge.

Seems like we ALL know that the pills MAKE YOU BETTER and that your intentionally not taking them is the only negative effects you get from them.
Even if those kids wanted to change their names they're plenty old enough to decide what they want their new names to be, rather than having the parents decide for them
Story 3: Oh, I’ve been waiting for this one. I understand OP’s anger, but damn!
He’s a grown adult who shouldn’t be calling a kid a “little bitch.” He should be locking things up if his job is that important.
Was his 15 year old neice punished? Did your lawyer apologize to you or do anything to prevent this from happening again?
With the lawyer guy, know what would've prevented that aside from a lock? Explaining why he needed the office to be off-limits.
why do adults think that teenagers are just the most stupid people on the planet? when i was 13, i would have DEFINITELY known better than to intrude a lawyers office, the ah scores should be flipped
You can definitely tell who had parents that baby them and parents that was strict.
Good morning rslashians have a great blessed day! Anything you’re facing you will overcome and it will make you stronger or laugh later!
I love you have a wonderful day, and same to everyone else! ❤❤
@@jaredb3508 hehehe I love you so much 🥺🤍
Permanently disabled here, with prosthetics and a slew of medications that have a horrible effect on me. If the friend is able to set alarms to remind herself on the day she wanted to, then she was able to set those same alarms to remind herself on the other days. I know not all disabilities are equal, but if I know I'm going to be low capacity *I advise those who might be affected*. It's just common courtesy.
Chad always wins. That's why he's Chad. And no, I'm not talking about the highschool boyfriend.
No one is gonna be scarred for life for being called the B-word and if they are, they obviously had previous problems that caused it.
story 3: she's 13. she should know better
@@shadowmewfred09 good thing OP isn't a parental figure.
And if he is, that is some damn sweet alabama bullshit going on.
I repeat: If a single nasty word is all it takes to give you scarring for life, you should have seen a therapist ages ago, because something is clearly wrong already.
I know my limits and I do my best to make sure im aware of things I should sit out because its just not safe for me
Good morning everyone! I hope you all have a great day! 💕
Definitely a deserved reaction for the third story. She could have caused really bad stuff to happen. OP is not the butthole.
The lawyer in the third story needs to chill out. Yeah, the 13 year old should know better than to just walk into someone’s office. However, calling them a “little bitch” and telling them to “get the fuck out” is insane.
given the sensitive information, I'm not surprised at his reaction.
@@alexthegr8esttshe should have listened and stayed out of his office
Thankyou you already said what I was thinking
Of course when op gets disbarred then rslash and "just a kid" reeditors can pay his bills ....
I haven’t watched anything from rSlash in weeks. Now I can binge☺️🤣
Good morning family 🥰
8:11 if you habitually forget your medication and setting an alarm works to remind you to take them, keep the alarm set. If it's because of the side effects you talk to your doctor.
story 3: so many people are like "you called her the B-word." She's 13 and she should know better. Plus, she was near sensitive information. NTA.
I'm sorry, but the way RSlash went "Uh oh" as soon as he read about the Miami bacholorette had me wheezing.
A whole minute earlier than 9!
You should watch his video r/AITA if I change my son's name,He will inherit millions really listen to the story.

@@Richard_Nickerson To think is it so hard for some I brought up the story because Dabney AKA R/Slash was condemning a mother for not changing her child's last name because the deadbeat father fought tooth and nail to not want anything to do with the kid but then DNA proved he was the father but he passed and the grandparents decided that they want their grandson to have the same last name as their son why you may ask to keep the family name alive but then they acted like oh if you don't change your kids last name he won't get any money because we know that's how a will works if you don't have the same last name then you won't get anything said nobody ever but the mother in that story was like let's wait to my son is old enough to make the choice himself much like this story where it's like the kids are old enough they can choose their names so apparently Dabney is like oh you should change your kids name because millions of dollars but if they're old enough and there's no millions of dollars you should respect them talk about a double standard and being a hypocrite.

The whole "let them change it if they choose to" part of my OP is already a response enough to your failed rebuttal before you even stated it.
And even if this was the same scenario, then the parents are not offering this information up despite huge incentive to do so in order to sway them.
