This video was really helpful. I had struggled with the threading while doing in person tutorial at the store for the B40. One of the things they did not teach was to use the automatic up/down to align the needle and to use the thread cutter at the side. I'm a little worried I might have bent the threader a little bit from fumbling with it. It resists a bit, but it is still threading.
I too am having problems with ... I like the term thread nests & just now, after watching this video & rethreading everything, I've also got loops. Please to return to the store to get their help resolving problems quickly as the machine is less than a month old. I too am back to my Bernina 801 to finish up face masks for my granddaughter who starts camp on Monday.
Check out the YT video by sewing with Cody and Pete, on the Bernina 475, you have to make sure the thread clicks in before threading the take up lever.
Dear HomeTips4Women, please also read this article with additional information on how to avoid loops and thread nests: blog.bernina.com/en/2020/05/sewing-without-thread-bunching-tips-for-sewing-success/
@@BerninaInternational I'll review everything but honestly, this is my 4th Bernina (1st one was a gift in 1981) and first one I had a problem with from day one.
@@hometips4women45 Thanks again. I am not sure if you had the opportunity to attend a training with your dealer? The threading process for machines with the new BERNINA hook is not the same as with older models (CB or rotary hook). It is very important that you follow the instructions. If you still have problems and if the video and the blog article doesn't help, please contact your dealer.
I am disappointed with my purchase of Bernina B 480. I spend more time fixing jams with the thread cutter and cleaning it, which involves removing the bobbin, than I do sewing. I dread changing the bobbin, as each time I end up taking out and putting it back in to try and fix the way the thread loops on the underside of my fabric. The bobbin shuttle is very awkward to remove and then to replace. The bobbin case sometimes does not snap in and there is not enough room to get your fingers in to work with it. Also, every time I start to sew a seam, there is a thread nest on the underside of my fabric. I wish I had kept my 440-never had any problems with it in any regard, but I was told it was not going to be serviced anymore.
Dear jspony2001, we are sorry to hear that the 480 is not living up to your expectations. It is a popular machine and quite different to the B 440 but you should not be getting looping or issues with your thread cutter. Please check that you are threading correctly with the foot up as you go through the tension discs, continue to hold the thread with your right hand to be sure this is correctly positioned. We presume that your dealer has shown you how to correctly thread and replace the hook system. We wish you all the best! If you continue having troubles please contact your dealer for further assistance.
I’m having exactly the same problems as jspony2001. My dealer is closed due to Coronavirus shutdown, but I have followed the instructions you offer very carefully. I still get thread nests. Right now, I’ve pushed my 480 aside and am sewing on my 1976 Bernina Minimatic - which works much better than my new machine (purchased 2/29/20). I’m seriously considering taking it back and getting a refund.
Dear George, thanks for your comment. We're sorry to hear that your experience with the B 480 is not a positive one. While your dealer's store is closed due to the COVID-19 situation he should still be able to offer you support on the phone. Note that the threading of the new BERNINA hook is different to threading the fantastic minimatic because of the new hook and bobbin system. Please check that you are threading correctly with the foot up as you go through the tension discs, continue to hold the thread with your right hand to be sure this is correctly positioned. Please also check your user manual on pages 41 and 47. We wish you all the best! If you continue having troubles please contact your dealer for further assistance.
@@BerninaInternational Thanks for your quick response. I followed a couple of RUclips videos yesterday and tried your suggestions, and I think threading the machine with the pressure foot up and holding the thread with my right hand have solved the problem for me. This Bernina is a lot more touchy than my other two Berninas, and I’m just having to get accustomed to it’s unique idiosyncrasies.
How do you even put the thread in the needle area to begin with? It looks like on the video there was some step that somehow placed it in the circular loop. When did that happen?
Mine made a terrible computer/ electronic noise when I switched it on, for the first time...eventually I found it was due to the bobbin winder being in the wrong position!
I have the 475 and still trying to find out if there is a bobbin sensor. Even with a jumbo bobbin I have run out. Very annoying. Otherwise love the machine.
Hi Christine, thanks for your comment. The B 475 has no lower thread (or upper thread) indicator. You can use the machine finder at www.bernina.com/en-US/Machines-US/Machine-search# to compare features of machines. Select the B 475 and, for example, the B 790 PLUS, to see all the features the B 475 has or has not.
My 480 SE has bird nests when starting. It did not do this when i got in December. The dealer cleaned it and says nothing is wrong. The first couple stitches seem loose. Is this normal??
Dear Brenda, thanks for asking. It could be that there is thread caught in the thread cutter, we suggest you give it a clean. If it is still nesting, you can see if the issue is the top thread by threading in another color and if this thread is in the nest then it is not threaded correctly, cf. ruclips.net/video/3lcQZCk_U_k/видео.html You could take the sample of the birds nest to your dealer. What we do recommend is that you always start to sew with the fabric slightly behind the needle. There is a marking on the stitch plate. Additional tips can be found in this article: blog.bernina.com/en/2020/05/sewing-without-thread-bunching-tips-for-sewing-success/
I wanted to know how to get the bobbin thread up and out of the feed dogs but it wasn’t mentioned in the book or this video, a little disappointed really.
Hi Tamsin Foulkes-Baker, thanks for your comment. The bobbin thread will be brought up by the needle with the first stitch. If you have threaded correctly, you can simply start sewing. If you want to bring the bobbin thread up manually for a more precise start, please use your BERNINA foot pedal. Two heel kicks on the pedal will make the needle move down and up again. This will bring up the bobbin thread (gently pull the top thread when the needle is back in the top position). Alternatively, you can use the hand wheel. Using the foot control is quicker though.
