It's because we don't blitz for some reason. Those long 3rd/4th downs we generally just rush 3 and stay in coverage way way too long. Hope that changes this week.

As a Bama fan, Our defense is bad bt offense aint helping us out not 1 bit. Look at the south carolina game. Defense wasnt that bad honestly bt the offense couldnt put together a good drive, milroe lack of awareness and poor decision making. I mean some of those plays i could see him moving the ball extending the drive by taking off bt instead he wanted to look for open recievers when there wasnt any. He forced passing and took sacks that could have been avoided. If you really watch him, he either is committed to the run or the pass. He never picked up the fact SC showed blitz all day. I would just like to see him be able to actually read the defense and understand if those pass rushers get behind him he needs to take off because they coming back the play aint dead. The Vols can't "wake up" because their left tackle is playing hurt and not able to do stretches or whatever it takes to get him healthy. Now we are in the heart of the SEC and no rest is available. Tough to say this , but my Vols lose by 10.

Just arm chair quarterbacking here but the run game with running backs needs to be the main focus of this Bama team for this game. If I were DeBoer you’re going to suprise Tennessee by stubbornly sticking to the run. Stubbornly stick with it to lull this defense then hit them with a deep ball to keep them honest. This Bama defense must stay off the field. That needs to be the game plan. Milroe is great but I’m worried that for this team he’s not a good fit. He must learn that time of possession is a critical part of winning with this team. Being explosive is great if you have a defense that can get you the ball back. If not you’re just in a white knuckle shoot out. That’s not winning football but it makes for fun games.
Milroe is a decent fit as long as he’s not expected to be Mac or Tua when it comes to intermediate passing, especially under pressure. He’s greatly improved in that area when he gets time, but he wasn’t getting time against SC (which probably has the best pass rushing DL in the country), and he was forcing the ball and not reacting well to pressure. That’s just where he is in his development. We should have protected him by running right at SC’s defense (especially once we got a lead and he wasn’t really himself), but we didn’t. I don’t think UT will be able to pressure Milroe like that, but even still, I think we need to run the ball more with the RBs, and not just sporadically. I know the temptation will be there to get into a shootout with UT, but unless the D is able to get them off the field quickly, then we’re going to need to have some longer drives to give the D a rest. There’s a reason most of the defense’s struggles have come in the second half (except against Vandy, which was just poor prep and lack of focus for the whole game).

My biggest takeaway though is how strong Tennessee’s defense, especially that line they need to run against has been. Regardless of that Arkansas loss, they still haven’t allowed any team to score 20 points yet. And that’s a serious factor that needs to be considered. But Bama has scored 27+ the last 3 games. Something has to give on Saturday. Should be a great game. Go Vols.
Bama can't run the ball consistently at all which I don't understand. UT has a good front 4, and a high potential offense. I think tennessee stops the run and pressures JM with the front 4 and drops 7 in coverage which is what South Carolina was able to do. Hard to see a path that Alabama wins uo there, unless they play like they did against Georgia in the first half.

They brought that Pac-12 pass happy offense to the SEC and it’s the line of scrimmage, time of possession, and run game that wins in our conference. Bama has the potential talent to pull it off but if our offense goes pass happy and our defense isn’t aggressive and playing down hill Tennessee will win the game. Like I said whoever runs the ball most successfully and controls the line of scrimmage, that team will win. I think that Alabama will lose. Neyland Stadium is hard to play in, and the offensive struggles of the past two weeks for Alabama are only going to be worse here than even in Nashville. If the crowd affected Milroe in Nashville, then the crowd will be an even bigger factor in this game. Like Pate, i could see this going either way. If Alabama comes out early and shuts the crowd down, then Alabama will likely win, but if the crowd noise is crazy and affects Milroe early, then Tennessee should be able to pull this one out
If Jason Autrey’s crew has Tenn/Bama 2 things are locks: 1) There will be a penalty every 3rd play 2) The OUTCOME of the game will be changed with one or more controversial calls.
Neyland atmosphere is the only reason this game may stay close for a minute. I still have Bama winning by double digits and Tennessee’s offense improving slightly but still can’t execute enough to win.
I think people are consistently forgetting Alabama has been without WR2 for the last two weeks and WR3 last week. This takes Jalen out of bad situations where he’s made poor decisions. This also requires more secondary attention, opening the gates for better running. You can’t stack the box if Law, Prentice and Williams are all healthy.

Some would argue Germie doesn’t provide “non receiver” elements like blocking and just generally taking the man assigned to them out of the play like Kendrick. Even with all that in mind, we’re still down 2 starting receivers, smart defenses can take advantage of that. Bring them back and we’re a very different, higher functioning offense

UF is a much harder match up for TN, than Bama was. 8 players for UF are 300 plus. Bama has only 3.. Bama 54th in redzone D. TN is 6th. TN is elite in rushing defense. Bama is not. Elite in rushing offense, Bama is not. Advantage TN when you throw in the home field advantage.
Just a fan here not a coach, however I am a student of the game and have been watching Bama since 1971 when my uncle let me start watching with him. Personally I am not a fan of Bama's 4-2-5. Not sure if it so complicated for the young men to understand it or it is only situational issues with it. However to last 10 qtrs it has been a big issues and I think affecting the offence a bit due to sitting on the sideline so much. I stuck with Bama through Curry, Perkins, Mike & Mike LOL and always will so giving a couple years to get his way of coaching going and his recruited players on the field is ok with me but his was left with great talent, just need to gel maybe.

Both teams have been erratic and sloppy this year. It could go either way. I think HomeField advantage will help Tennessee by about 20% but the remaining 80% is who brings their a-game. Alabama sits on their heels like they have been it will be a cakewalk for Smokey. On Milroe looking uncomfortable, that was mostly down to pressure. SC is just a decent team overall, but their DL is the best Bama will face all season. Milroe has greatly improved when he gets time to throw, but he wasn’t getting it against SC, and the OC wasn’t really doing him any favors there either. I don’t see UT being able to pressure him much.

The Vols can't "wake up" because their left tackle is playing hurt and not able to do stretches or whatever it takes to get him healthy. Now we are in the heart of the SEC and no rest is available. Tough to say this , but my Vols lose by 10.

Just arm chair quarterbacking here but the run game with running backs needs to be the main focus of this Bama team for this game. If I were DeBoer you’re going to suprise Tennessee by stubbornly sticking to the run. Stubbornly stick with it to lull this defense then hit them with a deep ball to keep them honest. This Bama defense must stay off the field. That needs to be the game plan. Milroe is great but I’m worried that for this team he’s not a good fit. He must learn that time of possession is a critical part of winning with this team. Being explosive is great if you have a defense that can get you the ball back. If not you’re just in a white knuckle shoot out. That’s not winning football but it makes for fun games.
Milroe is a decent fit as long as he’s not expected to be Mac or Tua when it comes to intermediate passing, especially under pressure. He’s greatly improved in that area when he gets time, but he wasn’t getting time against SC (which probably has the best pass rushing DL in the country), and he was forcing the ball and not reacting well to pressure. That’s just where he is in his development. We should have protected him by running right at SC’s defense (especially once we got a lead and he wasn’t really himself), but we didn’t. I don’t think UT will be able to pressure Milroe like that, but even still, I think we need to run the ball more with the RBs, and not just sporadically. I know the temptation will be there to get into a shootout with UT, but unless the D is able to get them off the field quickly, then we’re going to need to have some longer drives to give the D a rest. There’s a reason most of the defense’s struggles have come in the second half (except against Vandy, which was just poor prep and lack of focus for the whole game).
The issue with the run game is that the offensive line can’t get wholes open so the defense doesn’t have to stay honest and can just play the pass.

My biggest takeaway though is how strong Tennessee’s defense, especially that line they need to run against has been. Regardless of that Arkansas loss, they still haven’t allowed any team to score 20 points yet. And that’s a serious factor that needs to be considered.

Bama can't run the ball consistently at all which I don't understand. UT has a good front 4, and a high potential offense. I think tennessee stops the run and pressures JM with the front 4 and drops 7 in coverage which is what South Carolina was able to do. Hard to see a path that Alabama wins uo there, unless they play like they did against Georgia in the first half.

They brought that Pac-12 pass happy offense to the SEC and it’s the line of scrimmage, time of possession, and run game that wins in our conference. Bama has the potential talent to pull it off but if our offense goes pass happy and our defense isn’t aggressive and playing down hill Tennessee will win the game. Like I said whoever runs the ball most successfully and controls the line of scrimmage, that team will win. I think that Alabama will lose. Neyland Stadium is hard to play in, and the offensive struggles of the past two weeks for Alabama are only going to be worse here than even in Nashville. If the crowd affected Milroe in Nashville, then the crowd will be an even bigger factor in this game. Like Pate, i could see this going either way. If Alabama comes out early and shuts the crowd down, then Alabama will likely win, but if the crowd noise is crazy and affects Milroe early, then Tennessee should be able to pull this one out

I think people are consistently forgetting Alabama has been without WR2 for the last two weeks and WR3 last week.

Just a fan here not a coach, however I am a student of the game and have been watching Bama since 1971 when my uncle let me start watching with him. Personally I am not a fan of Bama's 4-2-5. Not sure if it so complicated for the young men to understand it or it is only situational issues with it. However to last 10 qtrs it has been a big issues and I think affecting the offence a bit due to sitting on the sideline so much. I stuck with Bama through Curry, Perkins, Mike & Mike LOL and always will so giving a couple years to get his way of coaching going and his recruited players on the field is ok with me but his was left with great talent, just need to gel maybe.

On Milroe looking uncomfortable, that was mostly down to pressure. SC is just a decent team overall, but their DL is the best Bama will face all season.
