You are correct. I do have to warn you it's fine sand and does pitch with strong water movement. Pros: Looks great Con: finds its way into the filters
Man you have a great selection of Peacocks, I am looking to achieve the same. I have a guy about an hour away from me who sells all kinds of cichlids. So excited cant wait :) You have a great looking tank , keep up the good work.
nice tank simple not overcrowded, no agression awesome colors. what is the name of the albino pecock? thanks for posting keep us updated on your thank and the changes you might make on it
Thanks for the comment. It's a combination of feeding your fish with high quality food (white fish meal), frequent routine water changes, having an eye for selecting quality fish with good strains and making sure that all the fish are at the same size. I hope this helps you. Good luck.
Thanks mikeyjharris. Made my day with your comment. =) 12 full size would do it. If you have younger ones you can go up to 14-16. Get good filtration and do fresh water changes weekly. Clean water = happy fish.
I use to feed strictly NLS pellets. Recently, I've been giving them variety of Dianichi, NLS, and Spirulina flakes. The Mbenji is the only fish that is wild caught in the tank. All other fish were tank raised.
very nice set up you have here, did you buy them at that size or watch them grow up? if you've had them since fry how long did it take for them to mature?
Your comment means a lot. Thank you. I love peacock cichlids. They are so graceful yet hardy and exude beautiful range of colours. Please share videos of your tanks soon!
Hey Michael, Answer to your first question: German red Answer to your second question: Lethrinop red cap Itungi The Lethrinop do very well in a single species tank. Get one nice show male and keep him happy and dominant with 3 females.
I live in Canada so there's all sorts of rock here. I walk through a rock yard where they sell all different types of rock used for landscaping. My two favorite types of rock are Jasper and Kingston weathered stone. Natural looking rocks in a tank.
it would be nice to have you do a video. how often do you do water change? i do water change every week. when i vac the poop, my tank gets murky. my tank never got crystal clear like yours . and dont your fish need hidden spots ?
Haps get large so start with peacocks. Begin with 1 each German red (full red), Aulonocara Maulana (blue/yellow), Aulonocara Baesnchi Benga or Stuartgrani Maleri Sunshine (full yellow), Aulonocara Ngara (blue/orange), Aulonocara Stuartgrani Cobue (full blue). Lwandas, OB, and Jacobfreibergi can be aggressive so add with caution. Every tank is different. Hope that helps.
Your tank will do just fine. What you stock now will be different when these fish get larger. Trust me when I say this, you will end up wanting to trade a few out and even add ones you like. For now, just enjoy their growth process and keep an eye on their personality. Cross your fingers and hope for a nice dominant fish to keep them all peaceful.
Thanks for the comment. It's my fish room so I have a dozen filters going and a air pump. It's hard to isolate the sound but next time I will use from video editing and try to use music for easier listening. Thanks again.
when i have water change, should i vac completely of the sand, or just do the surface, so my water dont get murky.? does the waste disappear them self anyway ? if i dont vac them out ?
Hi David, that is a beautiful tank and I use this as inspiration. I'd like to know some of your thoughts on initial starting out and stocking the tank. The LFS and breeders in my area have sexed male peacocks/hap in various sizes ranging from 3" - 5". Can I put these all in the same tank at once? Will the bigger ones pick on the little ones? Should I grow out my smaller ones before putting it in with the bigger ones? Thanks!
@rambo12313 I'm using Caribsea African Cichlid Sand in this tank. I find it very fine and pitches. Go with argonite or crushed coral. Even pool filter sand is nice and cheap.
Hey, i really like your tank. i have a 55 myself. question is, why all your peacock show colors ? i have one rubyred, only show color when it is alone.
A circulation power head will help you move some of that waste and eventually get picked up by your filter. I do a substrate vac every time I do my water. Perhaps I could make a video and show you.
I would add some flater type rocks you can build dwellings with.. and form some hiding spaces.. Fish really like to hide in rocks..at certain times.. Makes them feel more secure.
I don't recommend the Fluval U4 as your primary solo filter. It really depends on how big your tank is and how many fish you plan on keeping. I use the U4 as a secondary filter but more so for the water movement at the top of the surface.
So no caves really for them ..... is that an issue ?? I have a lot. But then it seems like they get real territorial I wasn’t sure if having nothing in there would affect them Thx
How many haps shall I stock my 110 with 1400 gph sump filtration rate ?thank you in advance !ur tank is beautiful ..I am planning to keep all male haps and a few peacocks
Most of these fish were selectively picked at 3 inch when you have a good idea if they have potential. I recommend you find local breeders that have good strain and pick from there. It's always a gamble.
I've a peakock A. baenchi almost 2 years old and still he didnt coloured-up, just faintly so... :\ I started giving him shrimp and fish to help him out. He is with some mbuna and haps, so I was always careful with food. Any tips?
Aye man i just got done cycling my tank and its set up i have 17 haps and peacocks in there and wanted to ask how does your tank fill out ? I have a 60"x 18"x 24"x so different foot print as yours. Since my fish are small i have so many but how many do you think would good for full grown fish ? I was thinking Like 20? i know you have 15 but thats why im asking how doees your tank fill out because you may add more. Thanx. Check out my tank also,
I know that for sure lol due to availability, aggression and the fact i may not have all males since they are still young. I just wanted to get a staple of how many would thrive full grown in my tank so i wont go to overboard stocking now. I have 17 still missing a few i would like to add so im looking to let about 21-25 grow out in my tank and i would like to have an idea of how many i would end up having to get rid of in the future thats all. 15? 20? in between?
@Manishbalaji1 I recently switched from New Life Spectrum to Dainichi. You want to feed your fish food with rich protein ingredients. White fish meal for example is a good protein. Salmon fish meal is a good protein however, it contains 'heavy' fats that could lead to digestive problems for your fish and stress. The right food along with clean water, larger tanks, good water parameters, low aggression, all lead to healthy good looking fish. Stress is will cause colour fading.
@jjarman009 The ones in the video are common plecos. I had them in there to take care some of the algae. All clean now and they have been moved to a different tank. I do have synos in there some where. They hide a lot when there's light.
All fish are different. If there are many other fish in your tank that are dominant, chances are your baenchi will not show intense colour. You could try grooming him in a separate tank with females to help.
The tank and fish are amazing and the lighting is nice for it being single bright goodwork.
Those fish are beautiful. Amazing colors!
awesome, I have a 150 gl mixed African chihlid & in thr process of cycling another 55 gl & want peacocks....ur tank is so beautiful!
Ur tank is one of my favorite tank on RUclips Dave...and that how I got started African Cichlids... just awesome bro
You got some nice cichlids there, very nice setup.
Beautiful tank !! I could watch it all day. What type of lighting are you using? I notice its darker towards the back....great effect.
You are correct. I do have to warn you it's fine sand and does pitch with strong water movement. Pros: Looks great Con: finds its way into the filters
Great tank!! I like the variety in colors
Man you have a great selection of Peacocks, I am looking to achieve the same. I have a guy about an hour away from me who sells all kinds of cichlids. So excited cant wait :) You have a great looking tank , keep up the good work.
Thanks John. Good luck on your tank.
Beautiful tank and fish, well done

Beautiful tank, and crystal clear video. Thumbs up to you sir. What kind of camera do you use?

all time favorite peacock tank ^^, this video i always featured to my group, especialy to the new members :D
very nice set up you have here, did you buy them at that size or watch them grow up? if you've had them since fry how long did it take for them to mature?
@kaenergie Thank you for the kind words. I use straight tap water with a water conditioner called Prime by Seachem. My pH is consistent at 8.0
@zakartaz Thanks. I had a look at your planted/rainbow tank and thought it was inspiring. Good work!
nice selection and quality
Your comment means a lot. Thank you. I love peacock cichlids. They are so graceful yet hardy and exude beautiful range of colours. Please share videos of your tanks soon!
Wow. Love those fish! Wish I could take all them, and throw them in my tank! Coolers are amazing
beautiful colours
Hey Michael,
Answer to your first question: German red

Never mind lol saw it in your feed. Where does one purchase jasper rock like that?
Wow! love the color of your fish! what do you feed them... :D are they wild caught?
it would be nice to have you do a video. how often do you do water change? i do water change every week. when i vac the poop, my tank gets murky. my tank never got crystal clear like yours . and dont your fish need hidden spots ?

I appreciate the comment. Thanks.
Omg absolutely gorgeous
very nice colours. nice looks of the tank, however the filtration is very loud. idk what type of filter you have but if your happy with it, so be it.
Haps get large so start with peacocks. wow nice tank. What kind of light fixture do you use?
It's a shallow tank so I was able to get away with Marineland single bright LED fixture.
when i have water change, should i vac completely of the sand, or just do the surface, so my water dont get murky.? does the waste disappear them self anyway ? if i dont vac them out ?

Love the tank! What kind of rock is that?
these guys are looking awesome wat do u feed em
and when you have the sand, how do you perform a water change ? mine has the poops all over the sand, and it is so hard to suck them out.
Can you please do a video on the lights of the 75 gallon peacock show tank , thankyou
Thats what I'm talking about 2 thumbs up really nice!
A circulation power head will help you move some of that waste and eventually get picked up by your filter. I do a substrate vac every time I do my water. Perhaps I could make a video and show you.
What rock did you use??? And can you tell me all the fish that are in there? Please and thank you
I would add some flater type rocks you can build dwellings with.. and form some hiding spaces.. Fish really like to hide in rocks..at certain times.. Makes them feel more secure.
Beautiful fish!
Thank you.
what do u feed them...and i do i need to do inorder to enhance the color of peacocks
Random question but would you be interested in shipping down boulders like that to Texas? Depending on the cost of course

Peacocks and haps don't need hiding places once they establish their ranks in the tank. At full size they prefer more open space to swim.
another Question how many bags of the cichlid mix did you have to use to fill that tank ? i bought 4 20lb bags but havnt set my tank up . thanx
nice setup!!
u got some awesome fishes mate ;-)
How many haps shall I stock my 110 with 1400 gph sump filtration rate ?thank you in advance !ur tank is beautiful ..I am planning to keep all male haps and a few peacocks
Just wondering is this substrate the Caribsea Brand of Cichlid Mix ? If not what brand is this i really like the way it looks.

I worked with 3 bags but 4 was suggested to me as well.

hi nice fish bro, what kind of the camera you are using? name and model please.
what kind of cichlid is the one thats blue and fades to red? if you pause at 15 seconds hes the one in the dead center....Thanks
hi what light do you recommend me for my cichlid tank, a zoo med 50/50 or a hagen power glo?
nice, very nice.
Omg.......I want this in my bedroom!
What kinda rock is that? This is what I’m going for as far as look and design.
did you paint in black the background?
In this video no. My others tanks use to be painted with mat finish to prevent glare.
What kinda sand do u have in this tank thanks
whats that fish with orange/yellow outline on his fins??
Did you ditch the background??
I hear protein helps a lot with color
i only feed mine with serra granured mixed with ordinary sinkers and floaters!
what type of plec is that in there?
Where do you get your fish?
nice tank, what are the dimensions?
Big fan of the tank man! I also have a tank with peacocks and haps and just added a oscar with them! check it out
why dont you add plants?
No where specific. I visit all the the local fish stores and check with breeders for them. Thanks
