I cut about a 1cm piece of spring from the spring found in a retractable ball point pen. Carefully inserted it into one side of the battery compartment. I use 2x1.4v batteries in the other side. Works wonderfully!
Just tried this with the same batteries, but rather than using the paperclip in the eraser, I used a folded chunk of aluminum foil. Seems to be working fine, the battery check light is on and the shutter fires nicely! Thanks for the video man!
I picked up a Minolta Hi-F from good will for $5 and this trick got the test light working and everything is in good shape however the shutter will not open. I tried removing the front to get access top the lens blades and could not get it off. I will try later, I really hope it works.
I used some px625 batteries instead of the px640 with some aluminium foil, the red light doesn’t bright but the shutter opens. I hope it will work haha
Hi and thanks for the video. A good idea :). A question, since these batteries are apparently not so easily available here in Europe: I always have a number of SR-44 and LR-44 with 1.5V each for my other analog cameras here anyway. Have you ever tried out if this works? I know that in that case the light meter does not show correctly, but I would use an external light meter and set aperture and exposure time manually. That should work by itself, right? Maybe someone has had some experience with this. Thanks for every tip and many greetings from Switzerland.

How did this end up working out for you? How were the exposures?
I just tried this on my Minolta hi matic f after experiencing a fail with the “foil method” and it worked great! Thank you!
Thanks for this, I will try it when my Minolta arrives. Wish I could find the black one though, it looks fantastic!
Seems to be a good idea! Problem is, I can't find any 1.35 V hearing aid batteries. All I've seen so far have 1.4 oder 1.45 V.

This is a great video.. I'm hoping it works. I will try this tomorrow actually.
Hi from Austria, you helped me a lot. Thanks

Amazing!! Worked fantastic!
What size is the battery?
I guess you could also use a dead PX640 or 640A as the conductive spacer?
thank you for posting .
Nice hack! thanks for showing us
Excellent video! I just got a Himatic E and was trying to work out how to get it working. Now where did that paperclip go?
Any links on the batteries ?
Thank youuuuu works like a charm!!!!
Thank you so much for this trick! I just tried it, the light turns on, but the shutter won't open. Do you know how I can fix that? Thank you!
That's a great idea!
Thanks 🙏🏼

It should work.
Hi! Do you think that trick can work with a Minolta Hi Matic E?
Yes
do you have a link to those batteries?
Nice video Thank You. If you decide to sell it please give me a shout. Have a good day.
What size batteries are you using mate ?
675.
how many volts does the camera need ? and is it fine to go over the recomended voltage ?
Thanks bro
Can this camera change the aperture setting?
Meter sets it.
hi! Those this work on Minolta hi-ma 7s ?
No.
I think the 7s has easier batteries to find. It's the E and F/FP that used to have the mercury batteries that are no longer made.
why cant you just put four batteries?
too much?
Will this work on hi-matic e?
Yes
Yes
great hack. would have been a good video if you were actually showing us...
I really hate botch jobs like this!
