It's again the season where the alukon tree produces its flowers. We people in the northern part of the Philippines utilize the flowers and young leaves on some dishes. I grew up eating this vegetable. My mother cooks dinengdeng using the alokon. There are many kinds of dinengdeng but alokon dinengdeng is one of my favorites.
Kada namimiss ko sila nanay at tatay dito ako nanonood kay gayyem ben, namimiss ko nung mga bata pa kami at buhay pa sila nanay at tatay ganyan gawain namin sa bukid. 🥺 Kung buhay lang sila ngayon uuwi ako sigurado sa bahay. Hindi baleng mahirap ang buhay basta magkakasama kami. 😢
I may suggest that you propagate these alokon trees, these are now endangered trees that next generation people will no longer see and eat, don't let this to happen, take the initiative to produce more of these trees, thank you

was wondering where Ben would put in the flowers he picked. didn't know one cuts off the branches to harvest alokon flowers! that's the thing with some veggies, they need so much prep time to get them ready to cook
I always have fun with these whenever my family prepares dinengdeng or inabraw with alukon. Always thought of these as old shoestrings cooked so it won't be wasted away in the trash.
