Kind of. Essentially looking at putting that much money and or time into a 74 Celica, so if the MR2 is more preferred for you then it's probably worth it.
considering the sheer joy i get from all of mine.. yes. yes i would. these cars dont have anything remotely close to how they feel for even 25k these days
Some decent ones can be found for $25k CAD, with 125k-150k on the clock. Not sure about "no matter the price", but I would def pay that for a well kept SW20.
I agree. Putting a Kswap instead of a 3sGte in an mr2 is like putting a B58 instead of a 2jz into an Mrk 4 Supra. Yes the motor is better in practical terms but still, it just doesn’t belong. K motors are bad ass though. Best thing to do is buy an automatic mr2 and swap it, you’ll never feel bad for that swap
My modified 2600 lbs 91 MR2 Turbo with 400HP is still the best driving gas car I’ve ever owned. I’ve bought and sold other sports cars, but the MR2 is the only car that’s stayed in my collection. 😂
I have a 97 rhd 3sgte mr2, if you want the big power you could always just go 5s block with your 3sgte head to keep it Toyota instead of K series . Imo I think 350w 3s is more than enough fun though. Nice mr2, enjoyed the content.
My 91 needs a clutch........ And rear main seal. Been using atp-205 for the last few years. It's stock except for 15s up front 195..... And 17 215 in the rear...... replaced the alternator and they won't come out the top on turbos. ........... What a pain that was..... Nice vid........... ; )
Dam many. After owning many cars after my MR2, I started to appreciate the MR2 more. The car has so much potential. It is so fun and can be a disgustingly fast track car. Long live MR2. Will be my forever car ofc
If youre going to swap an mr2 go toyota v6, chucked a vvt 1mz into mine, fairly big engine things into fairly small car is where its at, especially with the na grade s54 gearbox
Lotus Emira will have/has the AMG turbo motor behind you, but isn't manual sadly. Could be a cool car with power mods and maybe a merc manual somehow..
The supercharged v6 manual emira is pretty good atleast, and its only a few grand more. The 4 cylinder cars will prolly depreciate the most so the second owner aftermarket will be there someday.
@@yota8325 💡Hmmm, I wonder what a Toyota GR 3-cylinder turbo motor would be like in the Lotus? 🤔😂 I'm starting to feel like if Toyota won't give us a new MR2 soon, we could get pretty close ourselves by re-badging a lotus and stealing from Toyotas parts bins like Toyota did BMW lol
Great video and car as always! Love that he has kept the 3S in there! But I need to scream from the bottom of my lungs that the tires are mounted wrong! The threads should be the other way around, and can become fatal if he hits a pool of water!
I’m still finding Mr2s for 3k-5k in California. Granted they aren’t pretty, they need work. But I’d rather buy a crappier Mr2, build it and drive it. Most 20-30k Mr2s aren’t going to be driven as much or as hard as those inexpensive Mr2s.
Great video as always! I always wanted one of these and although I can afford it I wouldn't buy one just because the availability of parts. I used to own a 3rd gen MR2 for 5 years and loved every mile I put in that car but then I ran into the problem of trying to find parts for it because they started to discontinue a lot of them, so it became increasingly expensive to keep it on the road and in good condition, add that the fact that shipping parts to Puerto Rico is another hassle. This led me to sell it and never look at MR2's again unless Toyota brings it back.
Mine is getting painted. Is an USDM clean SW22 and I'm keeping it stock. I think that there are so many Sw21 that an SW22 getting swap is a crime. There are tons of NAs that begged to be swapped to a gen 3 or a Kswap. no need to swap a turbo. I thing the Sw22 is begs a premium only if its stock. There are sw21 evrywere, not worth 20k. That being said this is my car that i love, and Ill be keeping it until I'm too old to drive it. And the price again be 2k....
Would you buy a clean MR2 Turbo for $25k USD? Are they still worth it? Especially knowing they were 1/2 that just a few years ago...
Kind of. Essentially looking at putting that much money and or time into a 74 Celica, so if the MR2 is more preferred for you then it's probably worth it.

a stock 1991 MR2 Turbo with very low mileage just sold for $47K, I think it was on bringatrailer
I wouldn't but I would buy a clean rhd turbo mr2 for 13k lol
Dammm. Sold mine for rent in 2017. Then a clean turbo was $12k
A throwback for original roads untraveled watchers!
:D Glad you noticed
Sooooo worth it!!!!!
This car is worth it no matter the price

nice mr2, luv the color planning on doing the same color on my mr2

Or just put a 2gr

stock internals? and what gen 3s?
can you share your build? I'd love to know more about the 400hp build
absolutely love my mr2, had one as my first car. Some of my greatest memories
Sounds better then a k20 turbo your crazy
Yea, he’s definitely crazy
I love the turbo spooling behind my ears. That never gets old, i spool it up on dark country roads just to listen to that sound.

350whp is plenty in an SW20. So much fun
I would say no as a buyer, but from a market point of view yes. This thing in my opinion is just as great as the supra.
100% right on keeping the 3s
Love the mr2

It's absolutely still worth it. Id said honestly, there are cars not as good than the mr2 turbo that cost more....
awesome video!

if you put kouki taillights on you gotta change the spoiler

@@ekamvirk7599 I think so too. You can get a early Evora here in the U.K for £25-30k now. I've been watching them like a hawk for that reason lol
Yeah I'm just being picky haha. Supercharged V6 or any N/A V8/10/12 behind you is great too
The toyota engine sounds better for sure tho and makes it sort of a more premium modern mr2

I thought that title said "Forget Internals" like you were planning to blow up the stock block or something 😂😂😂
hahaha... that's a great idea for a video

I noticed that too, just wasn't at top of mind during the video to mention
As an owner of a 93 na hardtop, the question of keep it stock or retromod is one of the biggest dilemmas I've ever faced.
Na cars aren't special... send it.

Yeah it's getting tougher, but I feel like there are MR2-specific groups that have picked up the slack a bit as far as parts availability goes
Would you like to review my Gen 2 3sgte that makes 416whp?
What's your build sheet looking like ?

You mean sw20?
3sgte is great for sure but if you were to have a ge car id go 2gr
When you're this small they call you MR 🤔2 ?
Does this car has a 4 cylinder engine? I am not a car guy but i love cars. Can u tell me what this engine is?
yes it is 4 cylinder 3sgte 2.0 litters engine the turbo version is much better vs the not turbo
Someone has to g16e-gts swap one of these bad boys
Blocks crack around 400-500hp.
