@@wornwizard I just mean that if you are stitching to hold it together, but using that one tool slices thru the top layer, why stitch if it wont hold it on? Sorry, I am a newbie
@@HOLLYHOUSE11 Ah, I see. The grooving tool doesn't go through the leather entirely, it just creates a shallow groove for the thread to pull down into to protect it from wear. Otherwise the thread would sit on the surface of the leather and wear quickly.
I think the issue you are having with the tension of your stitches is that you are not doing an official saddle stitch. An official saddle stitch effectively creates a square not with each stitch, and will remain tight once you snug it up. Also, try using a thicker waxed thread. You can get it at Tandy. Build is looking great! Hope you don’t mind my 2¢!!

Mike B I think you may be on to something. I will try some different thread, and a different style stitch on my next project.
