Actually, astrologers don't really rely on that simplistic definition of Jung's synchronicity anymore as an explanation of how astrology works. I found this conversation very superficial and disappointing. It is not just a matter of people adapting an ancient tradition to the zeitgeist- the way people use astrology in pop culture in apps and social media is a topic of anthropological interest but being utterly confused here with the question about the theoretical foundation of astrology. There is in fact a lot of discussion and research taking place in the field of astrology that the participants seem completely unaware of, no surprise given astrology's current place largely outside academia. For anyone interested in in-depth studies of the rationale behind astrology I would point them for instance to Keiron Le Grice's work on Jung, and for a perspective from science, Bruce Scofield. Chris Brennan has a book and podcast (among a huge library of lengthy and informative podcasts) on the issue of fate in astrology.
