Very nice! What a great model for production-line rattle assembly. And, at the same time, learning a few other ideas that can be applied to other items. Definitely worth watching!
I tend to find myself watching your hands more than anything in your videos while turning. I find that we focus so much on tool presentation that we (I) neglect hand placement, and you do a wonderful job of modeling proper hand positioning.

Hello Ashley. Recently starting watching your videos and absolutely love the work you do. The massive walnut table, the rattles, the sea urchin ornaments ... some simple and some complex. A good mix and you make it seem so effortless. Your breakdown and videos are clean and professional. Not a lot of chit chat or background music. If I may compliment you to ..... a beautiful lady.

That came out great! I made a rattle when my best friend had his kid (out of cherry from a tree in my parents yard in Vermont that he helped me cut down), except I split a block, drilled some holes in the split faces for the rattles, then glued it back together. You can’t even see the seams! I definitely broke thru once and had to redo 😇

Very nice Ashley. I made a bunch of rattles about 20 years ago that were very similar to yours. I used similar construction but the rattles were navy beans. I believe yours are proportioned a bit better than mine though. Thank you for sharing. Have a great 2021 and stay healthy.
Ashley, a 3" paint roller works excellently to achieve the .0002 optimum glue thickness. It can be stored in a Ziploc and left in a cold place, even a fridge. No need to worry 'bout glue dropping on the beads.

Really like your projects. I'm relatively new to turning about two years off and on. I have made a few rattles in and my wife made a suggestion that I would like to pass on. When making items for little ones she suggested to stay away from nut wood's and finishes. You never know about nut allergies. I use ash for my rattles and salad bowl oil for my finish. I also use wet dry sand paper with the salad bowl oil. 1200 is the last grit. The wet dry paper and the salad bowl oil make for a very smooth and soft type finish for little mouths. Keep up the great work......
Not in any wierd way, but...I do love watching you make stuff, the processes are very cool. I am trying to start doing this stuff myself. So I am VERY interested.

Don't nut oils potentially go rancid and would mineral oil be a better choice for something likely to be in the mouth of a baby? Thanks for the much needed break from the real world.

Mahoney's Oil is filtered and heat treated to deal with this problem.

Great project. I would use beeswax and food grade mineral oil though. Tree nut oil can be allergenic.
