Just bought a Stihl FS 56 RC trimmer with the Autocut Ez spool head. This thing is a beast! I love it! This is the best trimmer I have ever ran. Lots of power and easy to use. Thanks for making such great products guys. Stihl is simply the best!
To restring this unit is a piece of cake. Takes about 2 mins. This is a damn good unit. Got mine last Friday and love it. I had a tanaka weed trimmer but it was a toy com paired to the sthil. My trimming time has been cut in half. Thank you for building a great unit.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
I was unsure about purchasinga new trimmer from STIHL mainly because of price, and the fact that I only have about 1 1/2 acre of land. I decided to purchase a used one (about 4 years ago) and it it still running strong! The unit is about 7 years old now and has been used every week by me and was part of a landscaping business before I bought it, so I know it has seen some rough days. My neighbor borrows it from time to time as well. Thanks for putting out an excellent product!!
I've never precut my line in the 15 years I've owned my pro model. I just wrap it around the spool (closest to notch first) so I have as much line as possible and then cut and pop it back into the trimmer. I don't think I've ever wipe it out, but blew the inside out with my breath. It's been an outstanding trimmer.
This video was very helpful, however I am having trouble getting the line to feed during use and is breaking off leaving me with nothing. I’ve had to take it apart several times to refeed the line. Any thoughts or suggestions? I bought it this morning...
Excellent video and instructions !!!!!!!!!!!!! If this info is put out by Stihl , Stihl is the product for me because user friendliness is greatly appreciated by the consumer . Turning back to sensible engineering and user friendly products will only grow your company . THANKS -------------------------------------Ernest E. Johnson
Going to try and find another one of the 25-2 heads. I’ve the c26-2. I can’t stand it for long periods of time. Anything other than round line. Binds up. And sometimes it doesn’t like loading the line
@viper8red Thanks very much. We're constantly looking for ways to enhance the customer experience and the feedback that we recieve from folks is very helpful.... and always appreciated.
If you wrap it loose and not tight it will help with the string not coming out. Also if your head on your bump feed is wore out, it will not feed properly
@cwildeky Thanks to you for your feedback. We're always looking for ways to improve, so comments from our users are hear, and taken seriously. Thanks again
It would've been nice if the dealer, Westlake Hardware, College Blvd, Overland Park, KS 66210, would've given me the instructions card. Thankfully it was available on the Stihl website
The AUTOCUT 25-2 trimmer head is not really that hard to wind up new line. It took me a little bit to figure it out the first time & when I started to rewinding it more, I can have my FS-90R ready to rock & roll in no time.
I have to agree with the comments about the instruction sheet that came with my Stihl trimmer. Actually, that's a poor phrase because there aren't any instructions -- just completely confusing diagrams. I was so frustrated I about threw the whole rig into the pond. So adding a few words might be a good start. It's a good product and deserves better. Thanks.
Mine jams every 30 seconds if you're doing any serious work. I saw someone here recommend the grey line over the orange line, what's the difference? The line seems to get wrapped to tight after a bit of use and won't feed anymore BTW? My crappy old B&D never had this issue, so I'm hoping it's not just being picky about the winding. I really don't want to spend half an hour rewinding a trimmer. I'm using the same line that the trimmer came with BTW.
I can restring one of these Auto-Cut trimmer heads in less than 3 minutes, if you're spending anymore time than that restringing then you're not doing something right, if you don't do it properly, then your sting will either bind or it will weld together and it won't work proper or if you don't pull the ends out of the grooves after you get the head back together and if it don't pop, then the button will be tight and it won't press when you need more string, thus forth, if your button don't work proper or the string binds and/or welds, then you'll need to manually feed the string out, or fix the issue. Trimmer heads are very particular on how they ought to be restrung, I've thought I've done it right, yet went back out to trim, it kept binding and welding, so, I took the head apart, restrung it using that same string and boom, problem solved, it's like a wench, cable don't get wrapped proper and the cable binds.
I have the AUTOCUT 5/70/77 (or 5/10/11) (can't tell 7's from 1's). Anyway, I need to see specifics on this install as the mountings are sidebyside and winding direction launches from the same side (if I go by markings on the head) Seems the line always snags on itself. HELP!!
I have a FS 111R and spool it just the same way as demonstrated but the line cuts back into the housing at least 3 or 4 times per mowing. Just posted a video about it. Perhaps you can tell me what I'm doing wrong. ruclips.net/video/fPgptjVcMSw/видео.html
Why would you make a trimmer head with such a small capacity? The 25-2 only hold 16.5' of 0.95'. I've never owned a trimmer that held les the 25'. That's 50% more. This head is used on pro models too. I bet they love stopping more often to reload the spools. I finally upgraded from a Ryobi to a Stihl and I must say I'm disappointed in some ways.
I feel like this was way over explained. I can load my autocut head in under a minute. I run out of string in the middle of a job, pull the precut lengths of string from my pocket, turn the machine over, wind the spool, click back into place and be on my way. Turning off the engine would be stupid. These people act like changing trimmer line is brain surgery.
dude, you'd be surprised now a days, I've worked with a guy that supposedly worked at a place where quality trimming was necessary to keep your job, yet they supposedly quit, most likely fired for being incompetent, came to work under me as my trainee, yet, I trimmed like I was working at a golf course, while actually working at a cemetery, that idiot was leaving Mohawks in between the stones and Monuments with an inch of dirt all away around the perimeter of the stone or monument, I've worked with people that made me want to rip my hair out and I didn't go to school to learn how to use a trimmer and I didn't grow up using a trimmer, in fact if I wanted any trimming done, I done it with a lawn mower, no zero turn mowers either, just either a push mower or a regular garden tractor and I'd run the mower at 3/4 throttle, I mowed the yard like I was at a lawn mower race and by the time I was done, there was nothing worth trimming, that's why anything that uses Batteries requires having an instruction manual with them, because some people can't figure out what direction the batteries are supposed to be installed in, with out one.
You need to make a new video for the terrible new design for the EZ Cut - there is no way to turn the spool by hand because you took away the knurled edge. It’s FLAT. Can’t grab it. It also has both feed inserts on the same side of the head. It is a nightmare and a poor design.
Great unit- but no instructions on ny FS 55 string replacement. How can Stihl give us a 50 page manual that shows absolutely no help in how to wind string on my brand new unit? Thank goodness for RUclips. Other than a useless manual it seems ok, but still am frustrated with the string winding---my buddy has a nice Honda unit- easy to use and a complete manual. I bought the Stihl because I like my chainsaw, but should have done my home work better. Oh well.
I picked up a old FS40 that doesn't bump. It has a spool head set up but doesn't have a spring. I was told it has the wrong head installed which sounds correct. I think it takes a 11-2 model one. Your FS40 might be totally different then the one I am referring to tho since they have used that number more than once. The powerhead on mine looks like the old FS36 and the shaft is a very long curved one.
This trimmer head is garbage. Very frustrating changing the line every 5 minutes. My Echo finally died but it had a speed-feed head which lasted hours and was a whole lot easier to reload. I can't seem to find one for my new Stihl FS70R. It should be standard from the factory.

Just got a FS 90R awesome machine! Thanks Stihl.

I like how they use intense, super-suspenseful-chase-through-the-forest music for the whole video

@Bonsall1996 Thanks very much! Glad to hear that (hope you have room for even MORE!!)
I have a FS130. Great machine and the three point steel blade cuts undergrowth like a hot knife through butter
@viper8red Glad to hear it, thanks for the update!
Utmost respect for military and First responders, both living and passed. May God Bless their memory. Amen

Awesome video. Thanx alot.
Love my FS106 Beast of of brush cutter.
How do I do it on a fsa60r?
Glad I found this video. It was much easier to restring my trimmer with the engine OFF. derp a derp
I want those nippers/end cutter used in the video. Anyone know who makes them? Link?
What side string does the Stihl FSA 60 r take
Great to hear!
Fantastic video really helpful and very clear instructions
This was a good video now I have an idea of what to do

Same here. I watched the video to see if I re-wound it wrong but nope. For some reason it keeps snagging internally..

Love it!

Andrew Veatch ya gotta dumb down for the idiots
Unfortunately, to SOME people it IS like brain surgery!!!

Damn, straight out of 1978
they are also the no. 1 in cartel deals, witch is illigal in Europe.

I often wonder if the guy who writes the strimmer manual has probably never ever used one , this guy sets out a good video though
Instructions with replacement head

How about updating your video to show how to rewind an auto feed trimmer. Your manual with pictures is very unclear...in fact, it sux 👎👎
Stihl better up their game. I can load my EGO trimmer in about 10 seconds with out taking anything apart. Motorized loader.
why the fuck am i watching this
Because you saw something about trim?
