Since you mentioned the shoe thing: when you thrift shoes you want to make sure to give them an anti mycotic treatment of some kind. Normal disinfecting stuff doesn't necessarily work, apparently. Now, my source is a nurse who told me this, so take it with a grain of salt as I couldn't fact-check it myself, but yeah, stay safe!
