This track really puts you into the shoes of the different fighters. Who they are in the world of Tekken, what they’re currently going through, why they’re choosing to fight in the fourth tournament. Pretty great stuff.
Edit: Something else I realized is that most of them know that if they don’t take initiative in some fashion, they’ll likely die in the near future. They believe the tournament is the only option for survival. I think that’s what truly makes this song so evocative and sinister. It was composed around the narrative that death was nearing for these characters.

Tekken 4 and 5 are by far my favourite Tekken games of the Franchise. Especially Tekken 4 is sourly the most unique and underrated (mostly because of the choices that hindered the competitive scene) but it is my favorite Tekken to date, because of the very seriousness Vibes of the Story aspects perspective. The seriousness atmosphere of Tekken 4 it's on another level in my opinion. The soundtrack is what gets me the most next to the game's atmosphere. With soundtracks like: Fetus(Prologue), Authentic Sky, Unihabited(Mall Area) Didgerhythm(Jungle Area) Touch and Go(Airport Area) and Kitsch(Beach Area) and The Inner Shrine(Hon-Maru Temple) and others soundtracks, For me Tekken 4 remains even in these days the most Unique Tekken game of the series. ☯️

Day after day, Jin trained in the traditional art of karate. Ever since his betrayal by Heihachi, Jin loathed everything anything related to the Mishimas--his lineage, his fighting style, the Devil Gene in his blood, everything.
Thanks to the dojo master's training, Jin unlearned the Mishima-ryu fighting style and mastered the art of traditional karate.

In the scrapyard somewhere in Russia, an old man named Nikolai was collecting valuable parts to sell in the black market.
While scouring through the junk pile, he stumbled upon an upper torso of a robot model he'd recognized a long time ago. It was a prototype model of the Jack series he had worked on as an engineer during the days of the Soviet Union.
Nikolai took it to his private workshop to rebuild it with spare parts. Then he inserted a memory core of one of the Jack models into the prototype.
After 14 days, Prototype Jack is rebuilt, restored, and reactivated. When news that the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 was announced, Nikolai thinks that this is an opportunity for him to do field testing for Jack, while dreaming of winning the prize money enough to afford a new life in America.

I think there’s a point where you see convenience and gratification clearly take the evocative nature of a game’s premise completely for granted. Yet the insistence that you see these characters as important cause “back 1,3 is so good” is the most selfish thing of all. Because we should all care cause one person really likes it. You can point to things like this where the story is an extension of why any fighter is there in the first place, as well as make sure each character is at least thoughtfully present. Now you just get 40/50+ characters and there’s a real excess to it all. Like that has no negative effect on what anyone wants as long as a very narrow group of people get to play this for a living

Seattle, Washington. A young man lays in a hospital bed. Found washed up on a beach with a large walking staff, the young man has no idea who he is or where he came from. The only thing to go on is the name tattooed on his back: Charon, the Greek ferryman of the Underworld.
Suffering from amnesia, and with no one able to confirm his identity, the doctors send Charon to an asylum for his own safety. A week later, Charon sees a commercial about The King of Iron Tournament 4. Suddenly, he has a brief vision of him fighting demonic creatures with his walking staff, leading him to believe his past is somehow connected to the Tournament.
The next day, the asylum is attacked by a number of masked men, who attempt to attack and kidnap Charon. Wielding his staff, Charon manages to defeat his attackers with ease, much to his surprise. However, the attack causes Charon to have a flashback to his earlier vision, leaving him with more questions than answers.
Believing he will be attacked again, and that the Tournament is somehow connected to his past, Charon slips out of the asylum later that night, hoping to learn more about himself without putting innocent people at risk. Hiding his face to protect his identity, Charon sets out to follow his only lead: The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4.

Satoru Gojo, born as a once-in-a-century unparalleled jujutsu prodigy, has utterly failed. One of his close friends is viciously murdered for the sake of an insane religion, while the other one, his only best friend, quietly drifts away into madness - all thanks to Satoru and the jujutsu society's hubris.
Bitter at the world and disappointed in the system, Gojo decides to change everything gradually. He starts by strengthening himself to his absolute limits in order to prevent any more tragedies from occurring, all the while slowly getting ready to become a teacher in order to pass his ideals and knowledge to a new generation.
Years later, Satoru's goals start to become a reality. Amassing an enthusiastic and independent following, Gojo is a generally beloved, or at the very least respected mentor figure for the new generation of jujutsu sorcerers, his ideas successfully taking root in his students' souls.
Despite that, Satoru Gojo is troubled. Having to recently kill his corrupted best friend has left the man broken and regretful about what had to be done. In addition to that, shadows are creeping in. Satoru's confidence remains supreme, but in the back of his mind he knows that the opposition has dangerously remained one step ahead of everyone for a long time...
"October 31st... Shibuya..." - mutter the disaster curses in preparation for their evil scheme, while in another place Gojo patiently waits for an opportunity to tear down the fiends in one fell swoop. The date of fate approaches.

Comparing the writing for the opening narrations of Tekken 5 to Tekken 4 and there is no contest, Tekken 4 had the most in-depth, thought out and involved stories for the characters in the entire series. It's honestly a shame that they decided to abandon not only the quality, but also the tone of the writing in this game going forward. Is it a case of "taking itself too seriously"? Perhaps but it worked wonderfully _because_ of that I'd argue.

This game was ahead of its time. God I wish they would give another T4 style game a try. Too many cute anime characters now with too much matrix fantasy bullshit.
The whole martial arts tourney angle is almost non existent. T2, T3 and T4 reminded us that despite having some supernatural elements the series still took place in real world inspired locations, from a church or an Aztec temple in Mexico to the Grand Canyon and even New York or a mall and an airport. I miss that feel so much. We got a boxer, a vale Tudo fighter, T5 gave us Feng Wei and Chinese kenpo then Military commando with sambo and a young heiress who weaponized ballet and gymnastics. I mean wtf happened? T7’s art direction and gameplay overhauls like meter and rage arts is just....bleuugh!😫

@@DrEarthwormRobotnik I’m not talking about how the game plays. I’m talking about it’s art direction, atmosphere and tone. T2,T3 and T4 was a time where it actually took its characters and story seriously. Everything from the soundtrack, to the stages and new character designs reflected this.
T7 is whatever they can get away with for popularity. You want SF style finishers and meter? Yeah let’s throw some of that into the blender. You like the walking dead? Let’s throw Negan in there too. You like cute squeaky anime girls? Sure let’s add some of that? What’s next? Dante from devil may cry? A muppet from Sesame Street? T7 may play better, but it’s a joke.
When you see videos of Akuma or Geese doing death combos on Jin on a Final fantasy stage, the series is a meme at that point.

@@Cr1ms0nRav3n Oh yes, a serious so realistic where people turning into Devils is linked to a genetic curse. Tekken's never been that realistic even at it's most grounded.

    • @Cr1ms0nRav3n
      @Cr1ms0nRav3n 2 года назад +4

@@DrEarthwormRobotnik most of its cast is grounded. 90% of its characters are human martial artists. The series has supernatural undertones but that’s only related to the protagonist and main villains. Even the mishimas fight with pseudo karate styles that pass off as an actual martial art.
I wish they would stick with that like the older games did which are the games that made Tekken so popular. They can keep Kuma or Yoshimitsu and the Devil stuff that will always be a part of Tekken, but it can’t detract from the main premise which was and should always be the martial arts tourney where competitors from various countries come to compete. Adding more and more nonsensical characters and mechanics for the sake of audience spectacle is only going to do more harm than good.
You have no idea how many people share this sentiment now. I could go on any video about T4 or T3 and you see so many people saying similar things as I do. They see the art direction of the previous games and they miss it. T7 feels like such a departure from that blue print despite originally being the one to bring balance to the gameplay. It’s a trade off, we lost the Tekken magic of the older games but got better(debatable) gameplay. As it stands now, it’s gameplay is even worse and broken than TAG2. So it’s lost even that now. Everyone is over it. They want T8, and they want it to bring back that atmospheric magic of the older games. Just go rewatch the T2/T3/TAG1/T4/T5 opening cinematics. You’ll see how grounded and urban it all was. These are the opening intros shown in arcades to get people hooked and interested. It cannot be debued, this is why people loved Tekken so much. That grounded feel with supernatural tones.

    • @DrEarthwormRobotnik

@@Cr1ms0nRav3n You want your "precious realism", go play Virtua Fighter. I'd rather Tekken be a bit outlandish so it can actually stick out.
