so 41:44 is part of roblox's fun network code is, it really doesn't like pushing disconnected cars.. and then also the animations like to freeze if you don't have 'network ownership' of the train. another known bug I'm in emails with roblox engineers. As for the rerail, it's limited, so you can only rerail cars onto a spot of track that is within 30 feet of your character
oh, and cuts will slowly fill back in (after you reload the save)
Also, if someone were to join, they could infuse you with some cash, mayhaps the CFO of the ES&D should swing by ;p
Also Also, there is a third cactus camp in that starting valley, that i'm sure is at 100 logs ripe for the taking

I’ve loved seeing Kan’s transition from spaghetti track layer to “will this break immersion?”. A true railroad designer he has become!
- Derails an entire train
- Says it's the other shifts job
- Refuses to elaborate
- Leaves
Just like a real railroad!
Pro tip from someone who most definitely isn’t a pro:
For building tunnels, you can go into build mode in the map view, so you can place modes like that n stuff. (Kan may have figured this out by the end of the video, I’m only 20 minutes in, keep up the great work you two!!)
The best part of this game is that the steam chest is called push box.

Hyce and Kan the Tennessee Valley Rail Road (ex L&N) Hiawassee loop not only crosses itself the track comes out antiparallel from its entry. In other words it does a 540 degree loop. There's your real world spaghetti track.
ey I have been playing “Steam & Steel” for some time and there are brakes for the cars it’s a white handle by the wheels and they work!!! Brilliant job to the developer for doing that!
Great video so far.
Just a few things i discovered:
- Only Map and shop overwrite eachother, so you can access settings and build menu while in map
- you can drive locos without coal in the burner (?). This goes downhill and with waggons too, so you can save much coal
- you can set switches from inside any loco, at highspeed it is harder, but not impossible
A couple of things that I've found in my game that you guys seemed to encounter or may like to know.
1: 41:10 Multitrack drifting is a thing, but due to the lack of bogies, it just derails everything.
2: 41:55 Trains don't like it when cars are uncoupled. It adds a brake-like effect and makes it significantly harder, or in some cases impossible to push the train.
3: 42:44 When rerail something, you must be standing on or near the section of track, you want to place the car or locomotive on.
4: String lining is, in fact, a thing, so watch out for that.

Hey Hyce, I found a little exploit (because the trains are too slow and weak).
If you have 2 cars of logs, go into first person, and walk sideways into the logs, you can pull a bunch of cars at incredible speeds. :>

not really an exploit, more a useful feature, you cant walk the trains that fast though

I’m down for 3/4 of an episode of you two babbling and grinding logs for money. The slower episodes usually have the best conversations. Just post them a bit longer or kan does half and you do half. For one long episode. Don’t let Jan post the first half tho.

Hello hyce! I was playing this with my non train fan friend and he made it like the ES and D. Had lots of fun. Soon he will be one of us.
A few things i know that you can do
if you ram the car fast enough the coupler will "fall" into place and automatically couple for you
If you click the firebox a certain ammount of times, your character will shovel that number of times, ie : clicking 7 times = character shovels 7 times
I'm going to buy you a sign for your office that reads "THINK AHEAD". 38:00 Leave the empties at the cactus farm spotted in the loading bays.
I can see this filling the void in vids until railroader realeases at somepoint. Or the game you are helping develop.

That may have been the calmest Kenosha I've ever seen on this channel.
Tip for next time build a bridge from the other cactus camp to the lumber mill it should be easier to build it from there. Its what i did and i almost had 0% grade for the whole route there
I dislike how ridiculously long the trains are compared to how small the load is.
So um hyce i found out that in you spawn a van (anykind) then go ontop of the coupler then move forward u save money for a money grinder as you dont have to shovel coal for 5minutes btw u can put anything there behind
Quick tip for pushing cars and engines with your avatar in roblox, go first person and push the train with the side of your avatar. It works a lot better than just running into it head on

Hey Hyce! Use shift lock. Shift lock is in the settings and it is at the top of settings and it will turn you sideways and help you push the car.
It actually doesn't work this game, tested it already
Someone else wrote on the previous video that going into first person (scrolling far enough in) allows you to go sidways and push cars. I've tested it and it works very well

I started playing Steam & Steel two days ago, after watching your videos on it. Chill relaxing gameplay, really good. But I managed to accidentally trap my character by laying rail over him!

I’ve been impatiently waiting for this episode. Loving this series
So the Porterfield and Ellis had an 18% by some accounts, 20% by eithers, but nonetheless they had two massive grades crossing a valley. The way they'd do it would be they load the logs up on a single car as fast as they could so they could have some momentum, run down the first grade and up the other, and create sort of a see-saw-like rhythm, slowly picking up speed by going up and down until they had enough to go up the second grade.

If each big log is considered 2x regular logs, you should move/sell them at the freight depot as smaller logs, because $28 for two is better than $24 for one big one.
well they don't count as two, actually. they count as 1.7ish. the numbers were just landing right on the industries to make it look like 2
I think KaN may have been confusing Class 9 track with a Class I railroad, which now that I think about it they should probably have used letters for one of those.

The loop you are describing sounds like the deviation on the Ffestiniog Railway.
You can speed up the loading process by Spamming e on the crane

Yes, been down to $3.00 laying track and had to delete some track to buy logs for the sawmill. But where do we go to ask questions about this game? There is plenty of cord wood to sell at the lumber loader, but I can't figure out which car to load it on to.

Nice video, just to let you know. I got this game and went broke and it is EXTREMELY hard to get out of debt, and the only way to get back to large sums is to get someone else to join and transfer their funds to one of you.

I'm sure this how they did it with real railroads. Just start laying track a see where you end up. It's like driving before GPS. The only way I know how to get to Lumber Mill is through the Ranch, so we have to go there first.

I kinda feel like seeing properly animated *insert component here* in a game like roblox would upset me. I'm not saying it's easy to do, but it shows you care about the subject of your game if you put the work in to animating stuff properly.

the only problem i have with the game is that it is a pain to find where the different stations are. i searched on all the maps for the different things but couldn't find all of them that are supposed to be there. so either they don't exist yet, are labled wrong or I'm blind.
the industry chain window should have a button to show where the selected station is on the map.

Is it me, or the lower cactus camp always has a low number of logs to pick up? You can try to tear down that branch so you will have money to finish the connection to de lumber mill.
here's the thing, Cactus camp produce half as much as a forest.
In testing, there were two cactus camp in the start valley, but after some playtesting, people were constantly running out of logs before making meaningful connections
so that one they connected to was added, but it wasn't given a boost to its starting amount, so when the world spawns it starts with 0 logs, instead of 50 that the other two start with.
You need a run around at either end of the line, I don’t know if they call it that in the USA but search up ‘UK Run around’

You get different amounts of money on different maps, I suggest you play on scarlet heights as it’s much easier to get to places
lol the track laying is great providing your not a numb nut like me and tried to do it in first person mode and failed to understand the UI and that you had to click on the word corner to turn off the mode.....i had to set to 0 and turned on and could not figure out why i could not lay track like my friend who was having no issues...... equals a big dumb dumb moment.
I regularly say "clickety clack, down the track.....b!tc4es". Been waiting to hear Hyce or kAN say it in one of these videos. Bring it bros. kAN's "logarithmic growth" joke was pretty bad/good. Oh, man.
I suggested in the discord that the only way to salvage you and Kan playing RO is to play it while both of you are drunk.

The strain and pain in both Hyce's and kAN's voices in actually several episodes of RO! just screams don't do it.
When a game goes from fun to being a chore, then the game has missed on it's main purpose.
Add in stability and gameplay issues, then it's way past something that should be considered for continuing the series.
Let's hope for a hefty streak of QOL updates and see if there's something there worthy of Hyce's and kAN's time.

does anyone know if its possible to add extra nodes to existing track.....so i don't have to delete large parts of track....or is there any way to only delete small sections of track or do you need to just add nodes as you go????
