I loved this episode. I think it would be very interesting if you keep doing other episodes with the same format. Could you do something similar with Olympia typewriters?

My 1957 Royal QDL has a one key.

I recognize the Empress typewriter, which was used in many offices.

I went to a local antique store that I hadn't been to since before the pandemic and what did I do? Bought a Royal 440 standard. I could do a lineup like yours, but it would go back further.

Great comparison of the mid-century Royal family! If you don't count my dad's 1973 Silver-Seiko electric, my oldest Royal is a 1955. Those QDLs when tuned up are awesome too. Thanks again for more typewriter love, Joe!

Hello Joe! Big fan, and I apologise profusely if this is out of order, but I have a Royal Quiet Deluxe from the 50s that I've recently acquired and the carriage is simply flying off, won't stay put. Do you have any recommendations as to how to fix the problem or at least info that I can consult? Thank you very much. And I applaud your service to this wonderful community.

You should get a video of the 1920-40s royal typewriter and the Smith corona 1920-40s for comparison of the style of the original design and the way it was made in history

Great video! I definitely gravitate more towards Royals than any other brand. I just love how they work.

Who’s got a source or tip for the clip in the Heritage cover that holds it down?

Very nice video. I've always wanted a royal safari because of their beautiful side profile.

Safaris are beautiful and type great, just be aware that they tend to be loud (unlike most Royals) because that beautiful swoopy boxy acts a bit as a resonance box. But if you're good with that, I definitely recommend it!

I have heard JVC describe the Safari keyboard encasement in the past as being like a ‘washbowl’ feature. I agree, and found a trial model very difficult to use for the reasons described here … especially accessibility to the top key row. I would never own one. Very enjoyable video, gentlemen as always. 👱‍♂️

Could you please describe why it is difficult to access the top row of keys? Daniel

@@AtelierDBurgoyne The design of the keyboard ‘bowl’ does not allow much room for the top row. Joe van Cleve refers to this in the video when talking about the Safari. Not so much of an issue if you have slender fingers!
