    So these were originally designed to run tablets similar to Esbit. The meta tablets were sumilar to the small Esbit tablets. There is a cup that fits into the spot where you have the Trangia burner. The trapdoor on the upper windscreen allows the operator to add tablets while the cooker is operating. The pot grabber is inserted into the trap door and tablets can be slid down into the combustion area without having to remove the pots! Pretty clever. Thanks for the video!

      The ring is för having the kitchen not to melt down in snow or ice. All Meta kitchems are made to be heated with Meta tablets, very like the GAFs Hexa.

    good presentation! and you corrected the error of the title: this is an old swiss army/mountaineering stove (it was a well designed product, a cheap reduced copy is made now in China), the legendary swedish stove is Trangia.

    For those who have this kit, the GSI Ketalist Stainless Steel is a perfet fit with the ring. It's like ti was made for it. I don't know if the aluminum one is the same size, but I imagine it would fit just as well.

    Nice kit Ade. I greatly appreciate the review. There are so many different kits (available via internet vendors) and it is difficult to decide what to purchase. Where I live in Texas, USA there are no local stores that stock these items .... so your reviews are critical in helping me decide. Thanks, my friend. Ken

    The hole on the side is for inserting additional meta tablets after the stove is lit. This is done by inserting the handle and sliding the tablets through it.

    Hi Craig
    Yes it is very sturdy indeed. When I filmed this review, the cookset was balanced on a fallen tree in the video and it didnt fall over at all. I'm sure it would be even better on flat ground.
    Take care brother and thank you for your very kind comments.

    Lol thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. Your absolutely right, I forgot to say that the cookset is indeed Aluminium. The jacket is the Ridgeline Monsoon II Euro jacket, it's a great jacket but it does have some drawbacks to it.

    Nice review. Very versatile cook set, and value for money seems fantastic. Is it sturdy when all the pieces are stacked up? Some cook kits can be pretty wobbly and fragile. If you have the time I'd love to see a video of you making a meal with the kit. Wonder if it'd be available here in the US as well. Thanks for taking the time to review it.

    Update on my own kit. I have removed the ring and the stand, usingthe bowls and pan to nest the GSI Kettle and a snow peak titanium plate inside. Inside my Ketalist, I keep the Keith Titanium Chain for anig the pots over a fire. www.dx.com/p/keith-kp6001-diy-multifunctional-outdoor-titanium-chain-silver-grey-293030

    Anyone else ever *melt* a Meta 50 with a Trangia?
    I managed this trick last night, in -15C and a stiff wind. I was boiling up a brew. After a couple of minutes, there was an awful lot of flame. It was getting ridiculous, so I took off the pot to drop in the simmer ring. That's when I saw the vent holes surrounding the center fuel cup/burner stand on one side were just gone, and nearby metal was warped and twisted. Moments later (4 minutes burn time) the burner was empty. It started out full. Clearly it was seriously overheating.
    This was my first time using the Trangia in the Meta 50. Normally I use solid fuels.
    I'll stick to hexi from now on, though I've not heard of this problem before. Since the kit is from Lonza (makers of the metaldehyde fuel pellets) I imagine the system was not explicitly designed for use with a burner like the Trangia, though lots of people seem to manage it all the same. Bad luck for me?

    • @realgoshawk
      @realgoshawk 10 лет назад

      Sounds as if you have turned the ventilation holes away from the wind. These windshields are designed to have the holes pointing directly in the wind. Otherwise your stove is melting away....
      Andreas

    • @ch_blue511
      @ch_blue511 10 лет назад +1

      I did have the holes towards the wind, though I was mostly blocking the wind with my body, so this could be the problem. However, no more trangia+meta 50 for me: if it's overheating simply without "enough" direct wind, this isn't a good combination. Will a calm day cause melting too? If this was the problem, it should...
      I'm still a bit surprised by it though - if it was this easy to do, I'm sure I would have heard of it before. I'm tempted to risk sacrificing my damaged meta 50 to experiment with it a bit more to see if I can figure out what happened exactly.

    • @realgoshawk
      @realgoshawk 10 лет назад

      *****
      I saw pictures of this melting happen to a Trangia which works like the Meta. The owner of this stove wrote Trangia and they told him to point the holes in the wind. I didn't have any issues with my Trangia pointing towards the wind or running it while there was no wind. Under normal conditions you should be safe using your stove without melting it. Otherwise Trangia wouldn't be the most selling outdoor stove, heh ;-) ?

    • @vertitis

      I think alot of ppl confuses it with the ones Trangia produces.. which is Swedish and look very similar, they have been around for about 80 years and are used by the military and just about anyone, even schools use them. I have had one Trangia for about 28 years or so.. not sure what kit is tho. Great stuff non the less.

      Meta 50 is a Swiss model, the other is the swedish army one (he say swiss model later)
      The swedish army model exists in two versions, alumnium one and stainless steel.
