Houssam is not yet Maalem. If you truly love gnaoua, you need to know about and respect the system of Maalem. It is true, that we are many, who believe, that Houssam has Baraka. But being Maalem is a ceremony, where older maalems have to accept, that somebody truly masters all aspects of gnaoua. Houssam is 19 years old. Give him time. Just playing a guimbri and singing on a stage makes no Maalem. So the artist's name is: Houssam Gania ( or Guinea ). Regards, Torben

As you said becoming a maalem is a ceremonial and a big part of that ceremonial is when the student (aspiring) maalem receive a gumbri from his teacher (Confirmed) maalem and play for the first time in front of him and in front of the others maalems. And although if this video it's not the traditional context of the maalem transfer of blessing but if you analyze you can see some modern signs. 1- We have Hossam using his father gumbri. 2- Playing in the festival biggest concert and in front of all the others present maalems.
+Gnawa Music As Torben said to become a maalem you need to receive the blessing of 3 Maalems during a lila where you play guimbri, for Gnaouas it is called "ndiriou Guess3a l lem3alem", because at the end we prepare a couscous where we use water collected from the different mausoleums of saints of Morocco.
