I find the rectangular and slim design excellent because it makes efficient use of limited space in the sump as compared to the usual circular or cylindrical designs. I hope to see more manufacturers come up with rectangular shaped designs in the future.
Wish I had this video around when making my decision between the Bubble Magus Curve 5 Elite or The Z series. Went with the Curve 5 elite which still fits well in my tight space but finding it needs no where near the 9.5-11 inches of water they advertised for it. Maybe it just has not broke in yet. I purchased it primarily for the size of footprint, quality of components and one large factor was water depth. I am using a fixed depth sump. 9.5 inches deep. So figured the BM curve 5 elite was the perfect fit but it looks as though the Z series would have been better suited. Thanks for the info. As always it helps a great deal in making a purchase decision or planning a build. When you can see the product out of the packaging and in some water. The deciding part is easier.
Also a tip if u have one. Where the red tube holder is in the middle. Cut your tubing there. From pump to middle have one piece of air line. Then from middle to the cup have a separate air line. Then you can take off your cup with no Hassel, when u put it back on just line up air tube and hole.
I feel like the only market for rectangular shaped skimmers are those for nano AIO tanks with built in baffles. I feel like skimmers for that application is lacking and these could of changed that. But even the smallest model wouldn’t fit in most AIO tanks. A smaller model that could fit in my Biocube or even my Nuvo would have me sold. So what’s the purpose of these things?
Is there gonna be Z1, Z2, Z3 and Z4 ? :) Need something that fits Red Sea Max nano tank. Tunze 9001 is nowhere to be found in EU(last time ive checked alteast), only on alliexpress, so not sure if i should go for it or not.
Well, based on their Curve skimmer models and such, I doubt it. The Z5/Z6 are already very compact, and going smaller might not really be feasible for the amount of skimmate it will produce. Who knows though?! I'm just glad to see more skimmer options in that CRAMPED category that tends to get neglected haha.
Love to see some real world usage on it to see how it skims. Skimmers haven’t changed in about 20 years it seems although this looks like a pain in the butt to disassemble to change the cup it’s good to see that Someone’s trying to make something different
I have one on my newly started tank, it isn't running yet but I hope to upload some videos in the future as there isn't a lot of real world use videos out there
I am a big fan of their small fleece roller. Kinda dumb they put the motor on the side of it but hey it was $165. Bubble magus knows how to make good value
Since these are new I haven't yet found an answer, but can you verify whether the Z5/Z6 fit in the back compartment of a Red Sea MAX e170? The footprint suggests it, but I'm not sure where the measurements are taken (the full baseplate or the body), and the water height is a bit low for the application, but it could be a nice replacement for the stock skimmer, so it would be nice to have someone with a physical unit check.
I think the measurements are the base. The only thing that pops out further is the adjustment knob. The red square in front for air intake protrudes out maybe a quarter of an inch. The back knob at the bottom protrudes less than a half inch the top knob however protrudes about an inch
The footprint on the smaller model is 6.3" x 3.9". As long as you have that much room, you'll be just fine. Just keep in mind that adjusting the height of the skimmer in an AIO style tank may be a little more difficult vs a sump setup.
hi guys. i think the reason the air tube is connected to the skimmer cup is to allow people to cusomise and attach a co2 scrubber and recirculate the air.
i think he got the models backwards? either that or the BRS site is backwards - it's saying the z5 is ac, z6 dc, z7 ac, z8 dc, and the dc of course costs more.
@@ThomasBReef that sounds right. I think it's an interesting, but perhaps wise, choice to do non-controllable DC. Generally, DC pumps on skimmers only really run correctly on one setting. On the flip side, DC skimmers are great, because their performance isn't effected by voltage changes in your house's 120v lines. I've had issues where sicce-pump based skimmers will be running 1-2" low, or wouldn't start the venturi, simply because the voltage in my house was running low.
If the bubble magus skimmer is as cool as those sideburns, I'm sold!
Stick onns 😂
Give the editors a raise! Top notch after effects BRS team. 😍
Thanks Thomas !

I almost spat out my drink! Lol 😆
@@ThomasBReef Luckily, there is likely a Hannah checker for that !
Lol that B-roll. You guys need to do more of those
That build segment was awesome

This was so great! The speed racer lines so funny
Does this fit an SR-80 innovative marine?
Best assembly montage. Ever.
Great product quality video, kudos BRS.

I wonder if this could be an option for AIO tanks?
I've been seriously considering this skimmer. I'd love to see a review from someone who's used it for a while
What is best for a 53 gallon saltwater aquarium the AquaEl OptiSet
Very cool skimmer and fair price as well, although I will say in smaller tank water changes are the way to go vs messing with a skimmer
I got one the other day. It's great. N for 150 I'm sure it will be a popular seller. A good skimmer for $150 is amazing

How many takes to get your "zeds" to "zees"? You missed one at 0:42 :)
A bazillion lol
No comment on how quiet it is, or at least the difference between the two motors?
They are quiet; most modern skimmers nowadays are! The cost difference is so small, I'd probably go DC, but honestly, the AC versions are great as is.
How long the belt last?
Why didn't they do a gate similar to AquaDuo? It has no replaceable part.

I really want to purchase a skimmer one of these days

It is annoying emptying the cup
This is a really cool skimmer
Nice vídeo. Only 220v? Cant find 110v
These skimmers have plugs for 120v 👍

This looks like the skimmers that came in the Red Sea Max 250 w/ some improvements.
Similar in body style for sure!
Does this fit in nano tanks like the Red Sea max?

Also a great idea!
I don't have a drilled tank. But I'm definatly going to make a glass box glue it into my tank with holes and setting this baby in it haha
Has anyone got one in their Fluval Flex 32.5g/123lt
Powerful skimmer
I got the Z6 and love it
Surprisingly effective for the price especially!
That over the top assembly montage LOL
How could I NOT do it when the skimmer looks like that?! Hahaha

The Nyos is fantastic!
