  • Web: johnsonfrancis... In pulsed wave Doppler, same piezoelectric crystal is used to transmit and receive the echo from the sample volume. Hence the signals are sent out in pulses and the intervals between the pulses are used to receive the echoes. In continuous wave Doppler, one piezoelectric crystal transmits continuously and another one receives continuously. As the transmission and reception are continuous, it is not possible to find out the depth from which the return signals are received. At the same time continuous wave Doppler can analyze higher velocities while pulsed wave Doppler can analyze only lower velocities.

please clarify in one video when to use pulse wave and when to use continous wave while doing echo

Simple pulsed wave Doppler can be used only for low velocities, typically across normal valves. All high velocity jets will need continuous wave Doppler, as mentioned in this video.

Now a days we get colour Doppler flow mapping before spectral Doppler unlike in the era when colour Doppler was not available. Regions with turbulent flow will be shown on colour Doppler as mosaic pattern. Regions of low velocity flow will be either blue or red depending on the direction of flow with respect to the transducer position.
