The Centurion D5 smart has a 24 v motor versus the 12 v motor of the competitors. a lower voltage motor will have lower torque. Centurion has a proven track record of innovation, reliability and endurance....Industry leaders....

Great comparison Phillip. The service from ET has also become very poor as well which is important. One only needs to also look at the number of RUclips help videos put out by Centurion compared to ET especially when I have personally brought this to their attention - without any action by them 😞

Great video! Finally a comparison of SA gatemotors. PLEASE also go test the D10 Turbo on the same rig. I want to know if it does perform much faster for closing residential gates. I also want to see if it keeps up with the heavier loads, so to encourage clients to fork out the extra cash for the upgrade if they have extra heavy gates that are not palisade gates.

more gate motor videos are coming up in the future, thanks

I’m happy to see a comparison was done with these gate motors however I would like a rematch between centurion and ET.
It is only fair to compare the D5 Evo with ET 500, and the D5 Smart with the ET Drive 600.
Centurion D5 smart uses 2 x 7,2 amp batteries connected in parallel, which supply 14,4 amps to the motor to use as initial pull force.
ET Nice drive 600 uses a power pack which allows the motor to draw its power directly from AC. While the single 12 V battery is only used when there’s no AC. This would be a great comparison and fair one I believe.

i selected the gate motors based on the gate weight spec so they were matched like that. The Drive 600 is rated for a heavier gate (600kg) than the Centurion as the D5 smart is rated for 500kg gate

7 Amp/hours doesn't mean that you can draw a maximum of 7 Amp. D5 and D10 have exactly the same battery pack, same motor, same control board but different gear box that generate more force but is slower.

Very important is the brand and quality of batteries used. I have one D5 and one D10 and speed is important but also the capacity of the brake ( time to stop ) in a case of IR beam interrupt.

This is a one-dimensional comparison based on a favorable setup. It makes me question the validity of the conclusions you have made. There are other important factors that you haven't considered such as affordability, performance in the field (under varying conditions), and the maintenance and cost of running the gate motor over time. For instance, if you need to replace the batteries in the Centurion D5 Smart, you would incur double the cost when compared to any of the competitors because you need 2 x12V 7Ah batteries because the Centurion D5 is a 24V motor. The 12V motors can deliver a similar performance profile compared to the 24V motors as you have demonstrated. Both the ET and The Sentry A6 Max have power supply units that can run the motor INDEPENDENTLY from the batteries. I personally have had a Gemini installed at my house for over 6 years now and never had a day's problem. How did you gain access to Centurion's test apparatus? are they allowing any hobbyist in with his multimeter? seems bias that the motors are being tested on centurion's test jig. Why not test the motors in real world applications and let the customers decide?

the video is a speed test comparison not a longevity test. The conclusions speak only to that point. The motors were tested according to how they would normally be set up running with batteries and mains. The Gemini performed very well, was impressed with that unit but its a speed test only. How is the setup favorable to any one motor? Contact each company to do this type of test and see what they say then let us know your findings.

@@ecologicaltime That's exactly my point... these companies don't grant access to the public to do tests... So either you're related to the people at Centurion or they're paying you to make them look good. Which one is it Phillip? Also I find it very ironic that the Sentry A6 Max (out of all the others) had so many issues on the Centurion test rig... it almost seems planned, like industrial sabotage for an old grudge being held. As an installer for over 15 years, I know the history of Centurion attempting legal action for the 1 button Nova's that Sentry produce and sell at half of Centurion's price over the counter. This just seems like another tongue-in-cheek jab at the Sentry brand from Centurion. Your video description says no gifts or money was exchanged for the making of the video.... I believe that as much as I do those Verimark people that use that same slick line on their TV ads. You should do a proper test showing ALL of the capabilities of each motor and then the price at the end. Then put an online poll for the people to vote for the winner. That would be the only test like this that I would trust. Who's opinion is better than the customer who uses the unit everyday? All of your findings are questionable. You even placed Sentry last when it's speed was IN FACT NOT the slowest. The Centurion unit also costs double/triple the price of the competitors to do the same exact thing. Conveniently not mentioned since you're probably in their pockets and paid for. I'm not sure about other people, but I'd rather pay 4k for a Gemini than 8k for a Centurion with very very similar performance to the Gemini. The Gemini is value for money. Centurion has a whole bunch of features you'll use once and never again. Personally, I've only just started installing the Sentry A6 units and so far not 1 problem. If their motor performs anything like their remotes, I would say this is a competition between Sentry and Gemini for 1st place. They're both priced at around 4k and have similar features. Sentry has the display which is 1up on the Gemini. Centurion motor gets left in the wake. These are my findings from my 15 years in the industry. How many gate motors have you installed Phillip?

we would like to make more videos on gate motor comparisons.
For the longevity tests as you suggested, we will need the following:
      - the gate motors, brand new in unopened boxes to be available for our team to collect at Regal in Johannesburg (Xavier branch).
      - 5 sets of brand new batteries for each unit
      - a venue with the test rig ready available for our team to inspect prior to the testing days.
      - our team will need full unfettered access to the test location for the duration of the test.
      - ecologicaltime and anyone connected to this channel will not take any sponsorships or payment of any kind for these types of tests and the motors & batteries will be handed back to you.
      - our contact details are located on the channel homepage.
      - this is an open invitation to anyone/company who would like to take us up on this offer.
