Remember when Captain Marvel brought him back to Earth? Literally the 2nd thing he said to Steve Rogers was "I lost the kid". Like it wasn't even about him losing the fight, he literally couldn't take the fact that Peter was erased on his watch. This makes me incredibly sad yet heartwarmed that Stark really treated Parker like his own son and gave him tough love. Their relationship will always be one of the best and well played cinematic relationships in movie history. Their chemistry as father and son played by Robert and Tom works incredibly well.

Peter's his legacy, he's going to become the next "Iron Man". Tony saw that, he was training and preparing Peter for it, for him to step up and take the torch when he dies. It took a little while, but he's finally stepping up and becoming who he was meant to be.
