The only good thing about this retched pandemic is discovering these amazing female Russian singers. Diana Ankudinova, Polina Gagarina (you should check out her version of this song too) and Alisa Supronova...they just blow me away. I believe that the Cuckoo in Russian Folklore is a visionary of sorts.

You wouldn't be able to understand the reference to Cuckoo in this song, there is that kind of a folk superstition or more like an ancient folk belief in Russian culture that Cuckoo can predict how many years you would live, so you ask a Cuckoo how long is the life that you have left to live and after that the bird cries as many times as many years you have left. The first lines of the song go: "How many songs I have yet to write please tell me, Cuckoo", and in general the title has this meaning of addressing to the unknown and uncertain future, that may scare you, yet you are still eager to discover it through the unrest that may come with what you learn
This is a very impressive song and a very good interpretation. Actually, it is the cover of a cover: Viktor Tsoi wrote the song about 30 years ago, then, in 2016, Russian singer Polina Gagarina created this version for a movie about the battle of Sewastopol in WWII. Supronova`s cover bases on that later Gagarina-rendition. I have come to listen to Russian folk and pop more and more. They have great singers not nearly appreciated enough in the West. The request you asked me for is by another of these singers. Greets!
It could even be considered a cover, of a cover, of a cover - Olga Kormukhina released "Cuckoo" as a single in 2011 some years before Polina and Polina's version owes a lot to Olga's arrangement.
