Clues are hard. Can’t drink the water, but there is recreational water there. There’s a vineyard there? There’s a desert. Did she mention a donkey? There’s definitely sand. Somewhere where there is hiking.
Thinking South America, but can’t whittle it down more than that. Not being able to drink the water suggests many places. Or is she going to Africa? (I already suggested Egypt.)
