Most people agree Phelps is the GOAT Olympian, and he’s still pretty underrated when we talk about greatest athletes of all time
only dumb people who follow just one sport like basketball or gridiron football think he's underrated. Anyone who knows anything about swimming or anything about what Phelps did (i.e. swim 364 days a year) knows EXACTLY how much he is rated, correctly.
Cuz its swimming. I know and follow most sports but bcuz its niche and only gets big during olympics then ppl

I disagree about him being underrated. We just don’t talk about swimming at all. But when we do. His name is always mentioned. He’s synonymous with Olympic swimming. He’s the only swimmer most people can name. Trust me he’s not underrated. He just got voted #1 in the top 100 athletes in the last 15 years.
@@jonathanlockett5358 Messi and Bolt are the undisputed goats at the most accessible sports in the world. Everyone on the planet at some point has been required to run as fast as they can and most people have kicked a round object in their lives.

Phelps is the GOAT swimmer for sure!!! Him and Usain Bolt were an absolute pleasure to watch in the Olympics in the 2000s and 2010s

No one but him understands the level of commitment, consistency, dedication and insane levels of hard work it takes to do what he did. It’s truly a testament to the human spirit and being able to overcome anything. Such an inspiration.

Michael Phelps is the GOAT! 28 OLYMPIC medals, 23 out of those gold, OMG, beyond words
I also consider Phelps the GOAT of all sports. What he did is so beyond incredible in a world wide sport. He dominated to such a extent that he basically retired because it got boring. He still could have kept going.
Another swimmer Katie Ledecky - she NEVER misses a workout and is fully dedicated and look at her results
Obviously the GOAT and will never be touched. I watch most of those gold races and several were decided by hundreds of seconds. He just wouldn't lose anything. Even his last year what he was able to do, just incredible

Watching those swims. Especially the comeback relay, was one of the most exciting moments of my life as an American and a weed smoker.
Love the way that he celebrated himself and fellow sports icons. What a freaking beast.
I played sports well into my 40's, never a pro, never great. I was Randy Brown in basketball, Joel Youngblood in baseball . Lockdown fullback in soccer. I did kill at badminton , haha. I'm 55, still skateboard. I love seeing greatness. I get emotional because I always gave it everything I had but never scratched greatness and just seeing Phelps, hearing him speak...my repect is through the roof. Being okay at sports is tough, being great is superhuman. The mental toughness it takes, the gratitude for having a chance to be great at what you love is something most people will never experience.
Oh wow I like Michael Phelps a lot. He is going to be an incredible coach. I suspect he’ll be responsible for more gold medals after his swimming career than during it.

@@olliea2326 it obviously depends on your definition of athlete , do you equate Tiger Woods to say Bo Jackson when there’s an obvious difference in athleticism? If you are including all sports where there is physical competition then cricketer Donald Bradman ( career from 1928-1948) would statistically be considered the greatest of all time . I would bet you all I have that if an american baseball player from yesteryear had a BA of around .610 and the next was Ty Cobb at .366 you’d never have an argument about the greatest sportsman of all time

Was at a football game in Columbia in the late 2000's, and he came out at halftime with his gold medals. Got invited to a party after the game, but we couldn't make it because of an early round of golf in Greenville the next morning. The next day, the picture comes out of Phelps hitting a bong, at the party we were invited to 😂 He was an unbelievable athlete, and gave hope to stoners everywhere!

Dude was my idol as a kid, he’s the reason why I wanted to swim in high school I joined the swim team thought I wasn’t that goods still he’s a massive inspiration got me into sports overall I used to stay up really late as laid to watch him compete.
and he is still in amazing shape.There is a thing were you can overtrain...I am a fan of rest and recovery butttt some guys in diff sport go 7 days a week but work on technique and dont push it so they can recover.
That was his huge physical advantage his body produced almost no lactic acid so he didn't need time to recover.
Him talking about having 52 extra days in a year is why he's GOATED. Most of ya'll can't go one day without chasing a girl or needing a video game.

Well Deserved win , people who love competition and all athletics at the highest level ,understand how difficult it is to achieve what phelp's did during is reign. Swimming is an extremely difficult sport and what he achieved may not ever be accomplished again. Phelps is atop goat of mountain with Brady / Jordan / Tiger Woods / Bolt .
