Problem with vermilion walleye In low slot are very skinny ,food base maybe but they're tastey and you always catch some nice jumbos with some real shoulders , smallmouth there are very strong fighters,but I got my first muskie and man did it fight,threw the hook right next to the boat but it wasn't legal but I would never keep them anyway .They brag about the leech lake spotted but this one was barred with blood red fins ...beautiful fish.Indians have started netting the walleyes during spawn and if you fish at night all those islands are full of cabins....where does all the waste go,they need a sewage plant in the worst way,this bay I was in was all non native weeds ,crayfish,Minnesota needs to take care of its treasures and stock more muskies because big V is way overfished for them.But still you hit it right there's some great fishing there.As Al said sometimes the walleyes will be real shallow 5 -7 ft and move out as day goes on ,no need to get up early,but I caught walleye perch and smallies all together,great fishin hole but people need to clean their boats to avoid bringing unwanted hichickers.
