  • Hello! Hola!
For our first lesson, we did some basic Jazz dance steps!
We danced to "For Dancers Only" performed by Jimmie Lunceford and His Orchestra in class: open.spotify.c...
    Highlights:
A lot of the movements have plenty of room for self-expression! We can style them in our own way, with our own flair!
While jazz walking and also doing some of the kicks and chasse's, we used OPPOSITE ARM/LEG. This is also known as a reciprocal pattern. It's how we naturally walk if we are born without challenges to our development.
Why do we care? Swinging arm and leg opposite helps us to strengthen our core and stability, practice spine rotation in a safe way, and challenges our brain if we have to think about it! Thinking and moving at the same time...
Thinking and moving at the same time (two moderately difficult things) is also known as DUAL TASKING. This improves both the thinking part and the moving part! It's necessary to improve our balance.
We practiced keeping our weight more on the balls of the feet, our trunk over the front of our feet. Easier to move in different ways, better for our balance.
