In my opinion, this game shines in it's new courses, much like Double Dash did. Neo Bowser City, the one based off the original Mario Bros., The sunken pirate ship level, the bazaar level, and the new Rainbow Road. They're all stellar! Really creative level design.
The game feel a lot like a 20th anniversery tribute to Super Mario Kart. In that the coins are back, the eight main characters are the same playable characters from "SMK (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, Koopa Troopa, Donkey Kong (was technically DK Jr, back in the day), and Bowser)," the lack of "VS" mode, and the inclusion of the first Rainbow Road. And as a one who loves the the series, I applaude Nintendo for celebrating it's 20th birthday with Mario Kart 7.
Mario Kart just makes me smile =) I've loved these games ever since the first one. I'm so, so tempted to buy a 3DS just so I can have MK7. And Mario 3D Land too, of course.
I was on the fence with the 3DS but i decided to get one with the 25th Anniversary Zelda console 4days ago , got me this on release date here in NZ and i am pretty happy with it so far : ) Mario Kart is a blast but i have the 3D effect slid right down.
@falcky400 But it's just traditional. There has always been one Mario Kart per console since the SNES. It's not like it's completely recycled or anything. There is always some new feel or addition to it to make it feel fresh, like the added boosting you get after you land with an air trick, or the gliding in this game. There has only been a couple of remakes by Nintendo, and they always make new stuff. It's just that Japan gets it more of it than we do. There are IPs we don't get info about.
Mark! You didn't even mention the fact that they brought back the coins from the first Mario Kart since you've talked about wanting them back badly in previous Mario Kart reviews!
1. Resolution means little to nothing, especially on a small screen. We're talking about polygon count. It is between the Xbox and 360 IMO. 2. These cartridges hold at least 4GB, roughly the size of a single-layer DVD.
you took the words out of my mouth i've been sitting on the fence of weather or not to buy a 3ds the announcement of a new yoshi's island really makes me want to buy one as i loved yoshi's island on the snes and starfox 64 3d looks good aswell. any advice should i get one and what games are recommended
@DragnSly OH-Carina is correct, because it's the letter O, which is how it's supposed to be pronounced. Whether it's more drawn out in the sounding of the O doesn't matter, but saying AH in Ocarina sounds wrong.
@tom11zz884 with games like Killzone, ZOE HD Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Call Of Duty supposedly coming out for the Vita? i dont think so...
@fsmetal Yes and this game is clearly suggesting that you should get your rifle, go out into the wild and hunt some Tanookis of your own to attach the tail to your car.
WELL..... I just got Mario Kart 7 last night and must say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the feel of this game... it is a mix between 64 & DS (my opinion). I like the mini boost opportunities... I am hoping more "secret" tricks will surface through time, but won't expect much more. Although I did not really like this review, I do agree with many of the key points. This really is an improvement from the previous installments and hopefully the next one can take it even FURTHER!
@Ketorulz Not to mention, there doesn't feel like there's much to do in Super Mario Kart and MK 64. They feel like bare bones compared to the other MK games. Multiplayer has improved drastically, and the ability to customize your karts somewhat has made the series more interesting and replayable. I would never want them to just PORT or remake an old Mario Kart game. That would be boring and uninspiring. You have old tracks included anyway, so it isn't needed. With MK7, it can be DLC too!
you forgot to mention that another new item is the 7 which gives you 7 random items i believe. and the coins also add to your max speed then just unlocks stuff.
I sometimes wish I had an NES and SNES. They looked like pretty damn good consoles. I also saw the original SNES mariokart. It looked great for a 16 bit game, as did others
Looks great. I've had my 3DS since launch and have been very unimpressed with the games so far. This has been a much better month for it! Mario 3D land is one of the best Mario games i've played and now this! Guess I'll have to part with some more cash next week and pick it up...
...altogether. I am getting tired of the new MK games aimed specifically for the younger kids. What about the veterans who fell in love with the first 2 games? I can stick with my SNES & N64 versions, but would it be too much to ask for Nintendo to release a SNES or N64 remake as an featured bonus on one of these newer games?? I do look forward to the second part of this review. I am interested in knowing your view on how the series has progressed and what could be changed for the better.
I sure picked a good time to get a 3DS. Just over £120 and great games like this and super Mario 3D land to play, and RE: Revelations just around the corner!
@DirkTheDooDooMan In order, the games released were: Super Mario Kart (SNES) Mario Kart 64 (Obvious) Mario Kart Super Circuit (GBA) Mario Kart Double Dash (GCN, which, in my opinion, is the best one) Mario Kart DS (Obvious) Mario Kart Wii (Guess) and now Mario Kart 7! I fully recommend you play every single one of them.
Yep this game is Pretty Epic, Also i found out this little cheat to your "Speed Boost" Topic, When you get Behind a Driver while there racing, I might see some speed wind in front of your Kart, Keep driving behind them till you get a Very Speed Boost to get ahead of your Opponent. Almost Good Example: 3:28 (Luigi Was Right Behind Donkey Kong) :)
This game is amazing thanks to Retro Studios pitching in. DKC Returns was amazing too (Also developed by Retro). Nintendo clearly has too many priorities to give their installments the charm, depth and love they used to have...
Mario Land 3D and Mario Cart 7 should have been release titles. Not that the 3DS needed them to be ('cause the 3DS is already selling more than the DS did) but it would have been nice.
@Jeremy5028 As someone who owns both, it really depends on what you're looking for since they're both so different. I recommend getting both, but get MK7 before it's sold out in stores. OoT will always be there.
I myself am waiting for the sequel to Mario Kart 64. These latest installments have seemed a bit limiting to what you can do with the track itself, both the track design and controls enabled the N64 player to manipulate and experiment as they wish. If rubberband A.I. were the issue for the 64, then it seems that the limiting controls are the issue with the DS, Wii & 3DS. I wish that Nintendo either provide more OPTIONS on how we wish to kart, or provide separate games for new & old fans
I love the 3DS, why? Because it's the gamecube resurrected into an handheld console. ( please notice that the handgrip on the gamecube doesn't make it an handheld console, mostly )
It saddens me that Pauline hasn't come out in any of the Mario Kart games she was Mario's first love interest turned "glamorous friend". The Koopalings would also be a great addition to the roster of racers, Double Dash riding should make a comeback.
dang. i got 3ds xl with mario kart 7 bundle with steel diver for free because it was a gamestop bonus and nintendogs plus cats because it was only 20 bucks.
because they only make new mario karts when they make a new console at this point i wouldn't see it any otherway if they released 2 mario karts for the WiiU, that would be extremely confusing
i went to wal-mart in hopes of buying this game just to find out that they werent going to have it until the next day. i couldnt leave empty handed so i settled with super mario 3d land and i have to say that is one of the best games i ever played. i know this video is about mario kart 7 BUT if u own a 3ds then u should own mario 3d land. one of the best games i ever played. hands down.
@jasamdomo You would know if you played "resident evil GC" or even looked at google images that it has no blurry textures unlike all 3DS games that do have blurry textures. If not get your eyes checked.
i started with the n64 and ps1 those were like epic i was young when i had em but it was still memorable im 19 now with my 360 and pc lol i love 8 bit tho i have all the old games for nes
Classic Game Room is now my favorite show on youtube, and you have a lot of competitors. CGR never fails to make me laugh.
i miss cgr 2011
It's crazy how they brought back some of the classic levels and music.. hearing that rainbow road theme sent shivers down my spine.
dont worry noob
my kok is still shivering today!
i just got the game today it so awesome and the only person that can make good reviews makes the game way better thank you XD!
In my opinion, this game shines in it's new courses, much like Double Dash did. Neo Bowser City, the one based off the original Mario Bros., The sunken pirate ship level, the bazaar level, and the new Rainbow Road. They're all stellar! Really creative level design.
He also fails to mention the coins that make a return from Super Mario Kart and Advance Circuit
One Man Parade He does mention the coins.
Apothecary2 But he only mentions that they are used to unlock kart options
One Man Parade but he mentioned the coins.
Apothecary2 Sorry, let me clarify he did not mention that coins increase your overall top speed up to 10 Max, as in Super Mario Kart.
I got this game yesterday as a christmas gift, and I can'y stop playing it.
i like the trippy last track. must be nuts in 3D.
This is the quickest ClassicGameRoom have ever reviewed a new game.
So you just got the game by the release date, awesome job !
I love CGR reviews and everything, but can't you give more details about the games or give scores and stuff? I felt like this was too short.
The game feel a lot like a 20th anniversery tribute to Super Mario Kart. wait, isn't the coin feature on grand Prix a return from the original Mario kart?
@falcky400 But it's just traditional. There has always been one Mario Kart per console since the SNES. It's not like it's completely recycled or anything. Thanks for the review. I'm thinking about getting a 3DS today.
4:13 cool thats the type of karts they used for SMK on SNES and MK64 on N64!!!! I always wanted them to do that!
I wish they did it like San Francisco Rush 2049 where instead of a hang glider you got wing on the side of your car and could do really cool flips.
@darknumber000 That just weird... 2 rainbow roads? It's already been remade like 7 times (rim shot).
This Mario kart is pretty hard when you do the 150cc cups to get the characters. That just adds to the replayability though.
Mark! You didn't even mention the fact that they brought back the coins from the first Mario Kart since you've talked about wanting them back badly in previous Mario Kart reviews!

any advice should i get one and what games are recommended
I'm surprised you didn't mention the coins. Don't the work the same as in the SNES and GBA games, which were your favorites?
It loks really amazing to play mario kart like you're controlling the wheel (GBA, Wii or DS), the last one i played was 64 :(
i wasn't really planning on getting mario kart 7, but now that i see that it has daisy cruiser i'll buy it right away
I love the fact that MarioKart too the dash boost thingy from Crash Team Racing...
@DragnSly OH-Carina is correct, because it's the letter O, which is how it's supposed to be pronounced. Whether it's more drawn out in the sounding of the O doesn't matter, but saying AH in Ocarina sounds wrong.
@tom11zz884 with games like Killzone, ZOE HD Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Call Of Duty supposedly coming out for the Vita? i dont think so...
i think its a good idea to play on a stable surface using the charging cradle so you won't lose the sweet spot
The pinball stage just sold me. Well, it would have, but I already bought the game online.
@fsmetal Yes and this game is clearly suggesting that you should get your rifle, go out into the wild and hunt some Tanookis of your own to attach the tail to your car.

Not if you play on a 3DS XL. That thing pretty much solved all the problems I had with the original and now I never turn off the 3D slider.
They make you go slightly faster, but they're also used to unlock new parts for your cart.
I would love to see a grand prix with all of the rainbow roads in the series XD
Damn, was hoping I'd get to see the 7up power (or whatever it's called) in action.
mark's previous mario kart wii review made me want a wii so bad I got one
I love gliding right into a drift slide!
you should do some walkthroughs for mario kart 7
@Ketorulz Not to mention, there doesn't feel like there's much to do in Super Mario Kart and MK 64. They feel like bare bones compared to the other MK games. Didn't realise this game would be out that quick. Might buy a 3DS for this game.
please note that more coins also upgrades your top speed during the race
I'm getting this for Xmas. Can't wait for Snake Eater either! : )
i like this guy - he reviews relevant games. thanks
Looks great. I've had my 3DS since launch and have been very unimpressed with the games so far. This has been a much better month for it! Mario 3D land is one of the best Mario games i've played and now this! Guess I'll have to part with some more cash next week and pick it up...

I have the XL too, and I play with it off. Mainly because I can see the jaggies around models which bothers me.
the different modes (hang-glider, propeller) kind of reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing
I looked for your Mario 3D Land review, Mark. Is it not up?
I'm getting my 3ds xl soon, I'll finally be able to play this! :D
Hmm, I wonder if you can unlock the El Camino "Mark" 7 ... with flamethrowers attached
Wow this looks pretty good I'm considering getting a 3DS now
I sure picked a good time to get a 3DS. Just over £120 and great games like this and super Mario 3D land to play, and RE: Revelations just around the corner!
actually, i like how they brought back the coin system (from super mario kart/ super circuit)
@DirkTheDooDooMan
In order, the games released were:
Super Mario Kart (SNES)
Mario Kart 64 (Obvious)
Mario Kart Super Circuit (GBA)
Mario Kart Double Dash (GCN, which, in my opinion, is the best one)
Mario Kart DS (Obvious)
Mario Kart Wii (Guess)
and now Mario Kart 7!
I fully recommend you play every single one of them.
@VivaLaDrew24 of course there are :P shall I tell u? lol
just played some of the game, looks much better than i thought it would. i only tried a few online sessions but it ran smoothly
yes you can unlock characters such as metal mario
Online multi-player still works in 2021, was playing it earlier.

I'm picking up my copy tomorrow :D :D can't wait!
There is a present under my tree that looks like a 3DS game, and I wanted two things for Christmas. A gamecube game and this! What do u think it is?
@TronPachioftheDynamo Heck yeah. Spiny Shell or "Blue Shell" is fixed now.
@Kingofprinces85 Still no sign of F-Zero or Starfox?
This game is amazing thanks to Retro Studios pitching in. DKC Returns was amazing too (Also developed by Retro).
Nintendo clearly has too many priorities to give their installments the charm, depth and love they used to have...
Mario Land 3D and Mario Cart 7 should have been release titles. Not that the 3DS needed them to be ('cause the 3DS is already selling more than the DS did) but it would have been nice.
The 3DS tanked at first, but it's making a massive comeback with titles like this. This and Super Mario Land should have been launch titles.
it would be really awesome if nintendo released all retro tracks remastered as DLC, one at a time
@Jeremy5028 As someone who owns both, it really depends on what you're looking for since they're both so different. I recommend getting both, but get MK7 before it's sold out in stores. OoT will always be there.

I wish that Nintendo either provide more OPTIONS on how we wish to kart, or provide separate games for new & old fans
The thing about this game though is that after years of being trained that falling into the water is bad, all of the sudden it isn't instadeath...
This game looks so amazing on the 3ds with 3d turned on.
when i got my 3ds i got mk7, mario 3d land, pilotwings resort, and zelda. best choice ever!
Yes we all want grindawald from GT2, but what about El capitan from 4?
@jasamdomo
More like the Textures used are "128X128" or "256X256" same as Half Life 1
I guess you're right about PIlotwings, but Zelda actually does have a good storyline.
I love the 3DS, why? Because it's the gamecube resurrected into an handheld console. ( please notice that the handgrip on the gamecube doesn't make it an handheld console, mostly )
i have the special edition zelda game waiting under my tree already and the wait is killing me -__- i cant wait to get this and mario 3d land! :D
@JohnnyP625 Or, what about Super Mario Universe and Mario Kart Wii U?
@Wotvr The coins do max out your top speed in this game.
@IblisLucario64 dude idk thats why im asking! its the same SD card thing so does it work??
@PerfectBlade20 i herd that every 3ds game is 8 gigs too they can put more also if nintendo wanted to
It saddens me that Pauline hasn't come out in any of the Mario Kart games she was Mario's first love interest turned "glamorous friend". The Koopalings would also be a great addition to the roster of racers, Double Dash riding should make a comeback.
i pre orderd my copy of this game today cant wait for tomorow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because they make 1 one Mario kart a console, not 5 sequels in one generation, this preserves the life of the series so they won't get stale very fast
dang. i got 3ds xl with mario kart 7 bundle with steel diver for free because it was a gamestop bonus and nintendogs plus cats because it was only 20 bucks.
im glad they brought back peach circuit from the gamecube
because they only make new mario karts when they make a new console
at this point i wouldn't see it any otherway
if they released 2 mario karts for the WiiU, that would be extremely confusing
well if theres so much space on the cartridge, why did they cut out so many characters?
i went to wal-mart in hopes of buying this game just to find out that they werent going to have it until the next day. i couldnt leave empty handed so i settled with super mario 3d land and i have to say that is one of the best games i ever played. i know this video is about mario kart 7 BUT if u own a 3ds then u should own mario 3d land. one of the best games i ever played. hands down.
The blue shell can fly without wings now?? DAMMIT IT GETS STRONGER EVER GAME!!
Man they should have put the course "Tick Tock Clock" from the DS Mario Kart
I would love this game, but sadly the 3DS is too expensive for my parents to buy. I also already have the DS.
@jasamdomo
You would know if you played "resident evil GC" or even looked at google images that it has no blurry textures unlike all 3DS games that do have blurry textures. If not get your eyes checked.

@video166 Technically, "i" is not a misspelling error, but a grammatical error. So, you didn't misspell anything...
@savagecabbage2266 actually, there were 2 arcade mario karts, so it mario kart 9.
