Right, this conversation was a good listen, 2 beers and 1 full infantry squad painted listening to it. I enjoy hearing your thoughts on what makes a selector good. "disclaimer -- our opinion only" is a great starting point from which to share your knowledge & experience. thank you for making these videos.

The Italian AB40 has a twin MMG turret plus rear facing MMG, while the AB41 has the light autocannon and single coax MMG turret. Both have dual direction steering which can let you drive fast with your rear forward so you can use that MMG more often - something I have used to punish unsupported infantry and to defend heavy cover before.
Also, the M14/41 doesn't have two coaxial MMGs, just the one. The M15 is where the twin coaxial crops up (but only in Warlord's mind so that'll get errata'd eventually).

The Italian Avanti special rule changed in Western Desert, you no longer have the negative to order tests if losing and get to re-roll failed order tests if winning. The Prudente rule, in effect at all times, means that all Italian infantry are always considered to have one more pin than they actually do for Order tests. Finally, Testardo makes all Italian infantry Stubborn. There are some other interesting rules as well that I think make the western desert Italians much better than in the other books.

You fellows are under selling the Italian Lancia 3 RO, in that instead of taking a medium howitzer for 75;points plus a transport, and have it stationary, for 85 points you get a forward facing medium howitzer on a wheeled vehicle, so it can move and shoot. It is a good deal, for an Italian player.

I've been testing a dual reinforced with 2 Renault UE(Wurfrahmen 40)'s and 2 Nebelwerfers, so far I dont think its a strong comp list, but it really makes you and your opponent nervous and tense waiting for 6's. Plus the Renaults are so dam CUTE!
Rest of the list is 2 kubelwagens with flamer teams and Lt, 4* Fallschirmjäger squad with 2 Fausts and a SMG each. 14 orders dice 1000pts.

List 7- Pacific defenders, I would use three of the snipers, you don't need the fourth. Agree on FT in truck but that is a key AT weapon for this list not a sweeper (mission dependent). You can't take second LT inex anyway, I would definitely look at Arty as in effect you can add a third mortar that way. The snipers and HE etc gives you good cover as you throw troops up the board. Or you can sit back and let them come to you. Giving one unit AT grenades is expensive AT but might be a must do given limited options. List can;t win tourneys if it runs into tank lists or veteran lists (sniper proof!).

Another advantage to big militia squads for #7 is they're Green, and you can include a political officer. Since you've got a good chance of Green activating in your favor (over 44.4% with only an 11.1% chance of failure IIRC) under a political officer's aura, it really scares opposing players from attacking militia if they can only get rid of a few models.
I wonder if Generic Anti-Tank Gun Reinforced Platoon from Battle of France will be on the honorable mentions. One of only three "generic" platoon options, but despite how scary it is as a secondary for any army with a dual purpose antigun, it's utterly useless in single platoon (so doesn't qualify for the list proper).

For list #4, I believe this selector uses the National Rules on pages 103-104 instead of the ones in the Army of Italy, which, correct me if I’m wrong, gives the Infantry units the stubborn rule.

List 1- With greatest respect I don't think it is better than some of the other lists here and several Allied lists will smack it. It will be ripped apart by any list with 3 or more armour and struggles vs Ghurka or Russian body armour units and there are a lot of those (when played properly). So I'll play devils advocate with this. It is maybe the best Japanese list but no access to Spigot or bamboo or indeed any inex infantry along with a kempeitai takes away human wave option. I beat this list with the Sugar Loaf hill list (at 1000 points) recently in a practice game and that was with the Spigot not coming in once! Japanese were sending infantry on suicide missions from day one so think historically its fine to have them.
For the third video take a look at Sugar Loaf Hill, also I think Burma used to be the best list before natives got smashed with a NERF (that was needed).

  • @russellwright5141

List 3- NEVER take Japanese armour! I think I prefer Battle for Okinawa Sugar Loaf Hill in the army book. You can do all the mortar spam plus you can take the spigot mortar as your artillery piece so you get three mortars and can add Knee mortars. You also get a vehicle to put an engineer team in. You lose one sniper (drop to two) and access to armour but big deal! 3 is a very high ranking though I think due to the AT issue that all Japanese lists have.
