- Whatta Bout Ye? Thanks for tuning into my video. In this video I give you a brief run down of how I built my Koi pond with breeze block concrete collar and box welded liner.
Initially we lifted the decking and dug out a trench. Once we got down to our desired depth we laid a concrete collar, this would be the foundations for our block. Then it was time to dig out the centre of the pond and this would take us down the the actual depth of the pond. A small trench was then dug so we could fit the 4 inch bottom drain and pipework. Once in place this was also concreted in and we laid the block work, they where laid flat we weren't fibreglassing the pond. Once the desired height for the block was achieved we lay the underlay and used a boxweld liner. Plumbed in some filtration that I already had and filled her up!
Old school pond build but without the filters it was less than £1000.......
Thanks for taking the time to watch guys and I hope you enjoy.
Nice one Dave loveing the hoody and the sticker on the shower good run down on how the pond was built perfect video wile I was on me lunch break at work I remember when you told me about the old man and your self falling out when that render was going on lol 😂 it’s all fun and games good memories thou 👍👌
Indeed fella its all good, Thanks for watching mate..As always take care bud.
All being a bugget Pond, you did a very good Job of it Sir, it looks really nice.
I love the finish along the top of the walls.
The Koi look amazing.
The Tancho Kohaku really caught my eyes.
Stay safe and take care.
Thank you very much for sharing that with all of us watching.
Fish look mint, fair play lad!!! Tidy job
Wow this is an old one. Thanks for commenting fella. Take care and stay safe.
Lots of great memories with the build then! Nice overview of the build
Cheers Andy, earl start today Simulated Game shoot this morning gonna miss your diary video until later!
@@dkoi-tv lol clear some time its 50 minutes long! Sounds fun have a good day
Will do fella will catch it tonight when I'm home with the Mrs. 50 minutes wow!! Look forward to it mate.
Really interesting how it all started a year after you moved in. Looking great as usual buddy. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe & well.
Great video Dave 👍looking forward to part two. Pond looks lovely
You both done a great job on this pond build, a little bit of extra work probably added more stress by having to shovel that clay twice, and that along with the memories helps make this a great story. I enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing.
No worries buddy and thank you for tuning in. Take care Nigel.
A beautiful pond with stunning koi 👍
Thank you very much for the kind comment.
Good build for that sort of money as you say you can pinch a bit hear and there. Then you get to the filters think my pipe/valve spend was £400 and if I had spent 2k on a drum I would not have had the money for new pond.
Thanks for filming
Exactly I had ALL my filtration I even had 2 new bottom drains a lot of the valves etc etc.. I think it can be as expensive as you wish to make it... Thanks for watching Martyn. ------ Quick question whats the file format you use for cutting out your logo and things?
great rundown my friend and has payed off well, im just in the middle of a pond build and i have used a standard bottom drain 26 quid would of cost 128 for aerated daylight robbery or what,i hit clay and your right it was like digging concrete anyway its a nice build and the koi are looking sweet ive subscribed to you as you have some good content all the best martyn 👌
Good video mate done my pond myself 13ft long 8ft wide 4ft deep by hand on my own digging / narrowing to the skip out front liner underlay filter never again lol well worth it mate £600 now I want it bigger lol
When we move I will build a massive natural pond but you can save a fortune doing the graft yourself. Well done dude.
Great pond.
Good video mate done mine on my own start to finish by hand 13ft long 8 ft wide 4 ft deep now I want it bigger lol 👍
I like seeing build video's and costs, I managed mine for about the same price including fibreglass luckily from a friend but have since done my extension roof myself for a fraction of what the so called pro's wanted. Good luck finding your forever pond lol, the one you build will never be good enough
Beautiful fish an pond.
If it was mine i would cover it.
Pergola an polycarbanate sheets. Rain water can be rubbish. It plays games with your ph.
love that tancho
Thank you it gets a fair few comments.
Great video Dave 👍
Andrew hope you are well thanks for tuning in again.
D- Koi all’s good thanks 👍
Great video mate
Cheers buddy,
Good build love your pond fish seem happy looks good what more could you want x
Red Wine?? Thank you for being so kind as always DB
Great breakdown of your pond build. I’m spending a lot of time watching pond videos before embarking on my own build. Not sure I have the room for Koi but I may still build one for Goldies
It all starts somewhere mate. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
D- Koi thanks mate, I am really looking forward to doing something.
I saw someone mention Discord, are there any active ones for ponds that you know of?
@@Simon.Bryant Yes mate there is I was added to one some time back but I don't really know how to add anyone. Dan has a pond channel and he manages the group
D- Koi Thanks mate, is it Dan C?
@@Simon.Bryant no mate Dan's Koi Pond is his channel. Worth subscribing too if not already. Very intelligent bloke.
Good memories for you there Dave, still laughing about you and your Dad falling out ha ha.
Cheers Steve. Madness it was lol
Enjoy That mate, Thankyou
Thank you, appreciate you saying so. Take Care
Fish seem happy in there, forever or not, lot of money involved with labour so if you can do it yourself your gonna save. Cheers 👍
Cheers buddy thanks for the comment and watching...
It's a great looking pond mate. Forever or not. About to re do mine. Still can't make my mind up weather to do blocks like that or just use the sleepers I already have
Sleepers do a great job mate, seen some beautiful sleeper ponds over the years. Either way I am sure it will be great. Cheers for watching mate.
@@dkoi-tv concrete scares me a little. Never mixed any before and never laid a block in my life. Sleepers seems the safe bet for me. Don't want to regret it few years down the line if there rotting or anything
@@dannycurrie1 You never raised fry before either and you're smashing that! Want some insider knowledge! I never laid a block before in my life either haha laying them flat its a piece of cake. You are more than capable dude, yes sleepers can rot if you don't treat them correctly. My pond will be there until someone knocks it down haha.
@@dkoi-tv thanks for the kind words. More by luck than judgment with thr fry. I'm not doing anything different to you other than the bottle sponge filters. Feeding them on Bloodworm now instead of brine shrimp though. Might stick with sleepers this time as I've already got most of them. Just need to add another few. Had my temporary pool turn up and my new drum is arriving next week so stay turned for the new build blog
@@dannycurrie1 Yes mate the ones in my tank are thriving its just the ones out in my grow on pond I am having issues with, Look forward to the updates! What drum you gone for?
Hi Dave, great video, thanks for sharing. Quick Question, I've slowly been building a concrete pond and went for a box welded liner. How did you secure it at the top. As I'm going for slate tile copings but I'm worried the tile cement won't stick to the plastic of the liner. Thanks
The liner was folded over the top brick covering 50% and I just laid cement on it. Thanks
Great pond can you tell me how you fixed the copping stones on top of the blocks/liner ?
Just with mortar when the pond was full. 👍🏻
@@dkoi-tv I mean with the liner on top did you trim half way or close to inner edge
@@heskey8866 yes sorry I trimmed it. The block are 215 mm i left around 80mm of liner over the block and laid a bed of mortar for each coping stone. 👍🏻
@@dkoi-tv that’s brill just getting ready to cross this bridge
@@heskey8866 brilliant. Glad I could help. Hope you have enjoyed your build fella 👍🏻
Great vid Dave merchandise looking swag pal think you could come help rendering my walls mate 😂👍🏻
Not after the disaster on mine hahaha
need help have pond one air pump fitting 18mm I need to adapt to 8mm air pipe any ideas? The pump came with a rubber tube that is about 18mm but can not seem to find a fitting for my large air stone that has a 8mm pipe.4
Would an adjustable manifold help? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Steel-Manifold-for-Air-Pump-Aquarium-Fish-Tank-or-Pond-Aeration-Stone-/203167231501?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
Beautiful. Where did you get your Koi from?
I get all my koi from Chris Masters in Barnsley www.koimasters.co.uk Cheers
Great work on your pond mate you need to have a word with a couple of them clowns on Discord spending £6k to £10k on a pond the fools lol
Just need to get your hands dirty and a bit of hard graff mate 👍
Exactly mate its madness biggest expense is labour in most things! Roll the sleeves up and get stuck in lol.
Hi, is that normal breeze block?
Yes it is laid flat.
@@dkoi-tv Cool! I’ve seen on a lot of the forums to steer clear of breeze blocks and use the concrete blocks, but this has changed my mind!
Your pond looks great on video mate despite the flaws that u mentioned. Not many ponds r perfect. Mine included. My local aldi got built quicker than my pond as i had to rely on a builder with a bad back to build it n my 60 year old mum to help me dig up 2 skips fulls of clay lol 🤣
Fun times fella lol
@@dkoi-tv never again mate. Got my pond for life now lol
@@richd-koi Hahaha Lucky you bud, your pond is a stunner though mate fair play..
@@dkoi-tv cheers just missing a proper bottom drain. Oh maybe one day lol 🤣 keep up the vids 👍
@@richd-koi Thats your forever pond idea out the window...
WTF child labour is forbidden ??? Dam thanks for the heads up will get mine back into school asap the apples will have to pick themselves lmao. Amazing guide and pond cheers for sharing bud :)
