what a great clip. Reminds me of why I hunt, and why it is the most important thing in my life to keep my spirit and love for the wild alive. I wish everybody could experience a hunt, gun or no gun...just to see how amazing it is to be part of nature. Harvesting a couple delicious birds rather than store bought garbage is just a bonus. I am happy either way!

Fantastic video. I spent three falls and part of a fourth learning how to hunt ruffs and spruces in Alaska. I really came to be quite good at it by the third year. I also really enjoyed going by myself (didn't have a dog either) and just basking in the quiet of the autumn woods. I also enjoyed taking new hunters on early season hunts when the birds were still in coveys and the action was fast paced. I also can't recall how many I must have shot while going in and out of duck hunting spots too. Great times. I miss them.
If the state of New York would cut some timber, it would be the best Ruffed Grouse hunting in the US. Grouse Do not have to have Aspen, the Birch that comes up after a clear cut here in the Appalachians is just as good.
Northern New England, we are lucky to have timber companies working the land regularly, creating new habitat. 👍
Went on some state land near Erieville there doing a great job logging the land to make more habit for grouse, woodcock and Turkey
it happening in chenango county state land as well now.the habitat is coming along,now if we can gat some more folks interested in coyote,fox,and fisher population control,things will make progress.
You should look into hunting grouse on paper company land up in the Adirondack. There's plenty of grouse to be found!
Went grouse hunting for the second time ever flushed three grouse didn’t shot any but still had a great time.
That is a great start. Just relax and train yourself to shoot after you know its a safe shot and know its a grouse or WC. Just shoot; Its a mantra. I passed up a lot of birds in my early year because it wasnt a perfect shot. It is rarely a perfect shot. Leaves and trees will get in your way but pretend they are not there and birds will drop. Be the Wayne Gretzky of the woods "you miss 100% of the shots you dont take". Have a great fall '21.
I’m from New York and I spend a lot
Of time in the woods and mountains working on power lines I often hear grouse drumming and sometimes see them. I really want to hunt them I’m lost on how to start with no dog

Get a good dog, my friend. The dog is the most important part of it. Your life will never be the same after one October chasing those birds with your four legged best friend.
Do you need Grouse tags? Or is there a limit. Tried to find info I. The DEC site and not much there. Also what are some good state land areas? I’m from OC NY and would like to start Grouse hunting. But also no dog. Good video
@@cb9198 no you don’t need tags. Believe u don’t need tags for any small game. Bag limit is 4

What is that clipped onto the strap of your game vest? Looks like a knurled brass ring. Holds a spare shell, maybe?
