Good video! I still have my Maycom AH27 HT with an Albrecht 2 foot whip antenna that i bought 30 yrs years ago. Still works very well with the speaker mic when walking around and the range is surprisingly good.
Great job Neil,two of the best cb HTs currently out there TP-TX and the Randy 3. Definatly not toys WT of 1980s! Both well built kit. I added a counterpoise wire of 9ft and crimp ring ,goes under the antenna connector on Randy 2/3s,then screw down stock antenna so wire ring bonds between joints. Ull get about 3s points tx/rx with the trailing counterpoise wire added. Glad having fun 😊 No excuses now not to carry a Cb ht out of mountain walks for safety and fun 😊 Enjoy 👍 Rob.P

Great distance that walkie is working well, whoever the guy was on the contact his audio was awful for the most part I could hardly make out a word he was saying.
To be honest Glen he sounded a lot better off camera.The GoPro was fighting the wind and the audio was quite loud with the T-X which effected the audio.I nearly sacked the video last night but thought i would make everyone suffer.😂
@@gtretroworld You can buy a sponge cover that goes over the go-pro it's squarish the same shape as the camera I have one for my hero7black and gpro10 they are very good at stopping the wind noise, as they have multiple mics on them the sponge covers them all I think they cost around ten quid.
@@DeltaXray444 I have the creator kit with the foam cover which works well but i didn’t use it last night as i wasn’t expecting those gusts. Next time i plan on taking the Rode Go ll up with the dead cat as that is superb in those situations.

Tbh i don’t really know as i haven’t had ran it low enough to find out,put it this way there was well over 25 minutes worth chatting to these two.I also gave a few shout outs to a few stations on the way up and it only lost a single segment the whole time so maybe a few hours.
I will let him know he’s a 10-1 station😂..To be honest the lad who i was speaking to was running a mixer that automatically added echo when he changed to FM,that and the volume quite high on the T-X didn’t help which was needed to over come the wind. It sure was Alan, hopefully future outings will be a load clearer as i have recently invested in some DJI wireless mics so there should be almost no wind noise.

Hey Neil can you put that walkie into export mode.. i did my Randy and got all the other bands and extras like options and power.. i only wish it had SSB on it.. this year ive spoken to two people on walkies with SSB i cant remember rhe name of the walkie it begins with A.. think its the only one with SSB on the market . One was an ex pat from Wales in Lanzarote he was walking through rock pools by the beach.. i did a video on the contact..
Yes this will do full export mode by simply holding in the PTT and Vox buttons while turning it on, although i really cannot see the point especially with the included antenna which obviously is way to narrow a bandwidth to be any use. I guess 10m with the right antenna could be worth a go but i doubt i would bother,especially around here.Yeah a SSB handheld would be great fun.
@@gtretroworld That's much easier than doing the Randy.. with that you have to open the walkie up and cut the two looped white wires... I've heard rumours the next Randy may have SSB.. I got one of those cheapie telescopic antennas I guess the length can be shortened for 10 meters by simply pushing in a length, not sure which would be the best way to swr it for best performance.

I have had some excellent contacts and ground wave skip with the stock antenna. With the right conditions and location overseas contacts could probably be possible as you can certainly hear them.
@@grahamwardandcd1594 I live in quite a rural area but have no problem making a 15-20 mile contact with the stock antenna but as you can see in this video i am at some altitude. As for talking skip of course anything is possible but you will have to work at it when conditions are on your side. It would be worth buying but just don’t expect miracles at ground level unless you live in a city.
These will be on many a Christmas Wish List this year! I am very tempted, especially with the NRC - it is like 2m band audio quality 👍

VOX Basically allows the radio to transmit automatically as you talk but i found it can be a nuisance outdoors.

With the increased interest in 11m i think we will see something with SSB in the near future.

If you enter the menu you will see VOX, if i remember rightly there is 5 levels.

Most external antennas need a SWR meter for adjusting it for optimal performance as well as reflected power that could ultimately damage your rig.

I have yet to try a tactical antenna on 27mhz but i guess it should be an improvement as it is bigger, definitely worth a try.

That antenna definitely works quite well as i have one myself. You’ll be surprised how well the stock antenna works though if you get high enough.
