    • @penguinproductions8829
      @penguinproductions8829 2 месяца назад

      I love that whole ending, you can shape it and decide what it means to you. Initially, I had always seen it as Laura’s scream being of terror and Coop has doomed her inadvertently to that fate we saw at the start of The Return, screaming and going to somewhere else, denying her happy ending at the end of FWWM. Then I thought it was all Coop’s dream, at least the segments in The Black Lodge were, and everything else outside of the lodge/FBI plot might’ve actually happened. Now, I think of it as happier - Laura’s scream was of terror, yes, but also acceptance, full acknowledgment of her pain and suffering and no longer trying to hide it or change herself to please BOB, and it completely cuts out the electricity, making Judy powerless and leading retroactively to Laura being saved, and rewinding time so that the FWWM ending was set in stone, and her angel returned to save her.

      That'd be amazing. Even 2 or 3 more Season's would be great. As long as we get a season or 2 more to explain what's gonna happen with The Experiment/The Mother demon, to show what happens with Audrey, to show how Project Bluebook ties into everything and maybe have UFO & Aliens tie into the whole scheme of things, to give a bit more of an explanation or story on the jumping man, woodsmen & the old lady with her grandson, to show how Red ties into everything since he can perform magic, to show how Argentina ties into everything, and the list goes on. There's shitloads of things Lynch & Frost could expand on.

      Community fans' plea was "six seasons and a movie!" and we didn't get our movie (yet?) but we did get our seasons, somehow...
      for Twin Peaks, I feel like "four seasons and two movies and two books!" is the rallying cry. 3 seasons down, 1 movie down, and one book down (one major book). One more book coming this fall around Halloween, I believe. So.... we need one more season, season 4, to at least SEMI-resolve some of the stuff left open after season 3. And then one weird and wild and wacky movie to be to seasons 3+4 what FWWM was to seasons 1+2. kthxplz, make it happen, powers that be.

    I really feel that's the show deserved more of an audience than it got. Everyone is obsessed with Game of Thrones when, I think, this was the more original and more thoughtful and creative show. It does demand more of the watcher though, which may explain things. But all good art does
    Back to rewatch. ...

    • @emartin86
      @emartin86 7 лет назад +13

      I totally agree. Everyone gushes over Game Of Thrones, Walking Dead, etc. But Twin Peaks is so much more brilliant. I think it's mostly because it is geared towards more of an intelligent audience that researches government conspiracies, Demons, UFO's & Aliens, multiple dimensions, black & white magic, etc. So not everyone understands it. I absolutely love it though. On Facebook, all of my friends are always talking about Game Of Thrones, but I'm always that 1 person that constantly posts Twin Peaks teasers & I always leave up posts praising it.

    • @MrMadalien

    • @emartin86
      @emartin86 7 лет назад +2

      Tomato Lemon Fair enough... It is pretty bat shit crazy & surreal at times. But it has a lot of knowledge & history spread threw out the show as well. They tie Project Bluebook, the Trinity Atom Bomb, Native-American history & a lot of Freemason symbolism into it. 95% of other shows out there don't accurately portray things of the supernatural nature. But Twin Peaks is pretty much bang on. If you were to ask most people out there what Project Bluebook is, or to identify different forms of symbolism spread threw out the show, most people wouldn't know what the hell you're talking about. So Twin Peaks is both intuitive & intellectual for that reason. People who don't know they're history & who don't watch documentaries aren't gonna understand it as well.

      Irene, I do agree with you, Twin Peaks blew me away, the return with the 25 years of waiting and all of the little things and quirks that makes Twin Peaks so brilliant. I think its not as popular because for one, its on showtime, a rather less used streaming service and the show is way over the heads of the majority of TV viewers. Lynch makes you work to put the puzzle together. TP is art, its like a really in depth music video. I like GoT a lot too but TP has effected me and moved me quite a bit more. GoT is just aimed at a more wider range of audience

    I think he was 'Richard' at the end of episode 18, right? Kyle says he was Cooper, but he didn't really act like Cooper during the Odessa part of 18. Therefore, Kyle actually had 4 different parts, not just 3.

    • @Spahny1
      @Spahny1 7 лет назад +25

      This is true. And there's a theory out there that the Cooper we know and love went to live in Las Vegas with Janey E. Not so sure about that but it is a nice thought, in a way.
      In part 18 they stopped at a Valero gas station and we saw the population of Odessa. That helps with deciphering approximately when this was happening. I'd like to interview Kyle. I bet I could ask some better questions. Focusing just along the lines of exploring who was that in Odessa train of thought. Would Agent Cooper have handled the cowboys this way? Would Cooper put loaded guns into boiling oil? If he would do it at all I'm pretty sure he would take the bullets out first, yes? If Cooper is now Richard why doesn't that ring a bell with him? He doesn't seem to remember what the Fireman said to him either. Cooper isn't the least concerned at the dead guy in the chair with the weird stomach wound? If that's Cooper then he has seen this before and it would mean something to him. Who was Mrs. Tremond talking to when she peaked around the door into the living room? Cooper just stands there looking defeated. Very haunted by all of this. I think it is an amazing finale.

      I'm thinking he actually plays 6 different characters in The Return. 1. The Tulpa Dougie (from beginning with Jade) who gets turned back into a gold seed in the Black Lodge. 2. Evil Coop (doppelganger) 3. Real Cooper who everyone believes to be Dougie Jones 4. Real Agent Cooper after coming out of the coma 5. Richard/Cooper 6. Tulpa Cooper at the very end, coming home to Janey-E

    • @AndorianBlues

    I think Dougie is something like a neutral between good and bad Coop: he's the unconscious. He doesn't make decisions grounded in anything he's aware of, but seems to be guided by some force to at least neutralize the wrongs in his life.

    David Lynch’s odyssey. It’s crazy knowing this show has came from his brain. That mans brain is a creative chemistry set. When he’s done with cinema it’s gonna be sad. I don’t think anyone will ever realize what he was able to with the medium til he’s gone. He’s one of the greatest artists of all time. Like a Leonardo da vinci. Kyle has been fantastic in every thing they’ve done together. At least something in cinema is still surprising me.

    I wish Cooper had actually DONE something in the fight with Mr. C and BOB. It was Lucy and Freddie that did all the "heavy lifting". Even Hawk wasn't there in the room at the time. He arrived late for the party (probably cause he was the only one who would have right away recognized the Evil Cooper wasn't the real Dale Cooper).

    • @gfox9295
      @gfox9295 7 лет назад +4

      I know what you mean. Also, Hawk may have been a bit late, but not as late as Bobby. And Bobby wasn't as late as EVERYONE ELSE IN TWIN PEAKS WHO'LL NEVER EVEN GET TO SEE COOP AGAIN. Makes me sad.
      But yeah, Coop ended up being more of a facilitator and deliverer of warnings (don't get near it, don't touch the body!) and ring-putter-onner type guy than we probably expected. But I was fine with that, other people had had pretty big moments in seasons 1/2/FWWM as well, Coop doesn't need all the glory. But yeah, after 25+ years of being stuck in the lodge or stuck in Dougie Coop.. you'd think he'd be doing more before he turns into Richard a few minutes later. ;_;
      Anyway, if Andy shot someone in season 2 and Lucy shot someone in season 3, I think we can expect WALLY BRANDO to shoot someone if there's a season 4. The pattern must hold!

      that scene felt deliberately absurd at first, but I took it as meaning something like, a completely innocent character was needed to defeat the force of Bob. the real Cooper was mixture of things despite having a lot of good - this is a dark view but I felt like he was maybe following his impulses/obsession with the case too much in the finale, even recalling Mr C in some of those moments. And maybe Diane had a similar realization and decided to leave.
      or you could also see the whole thing as Cooper disassociating from himself and hallucinating the character of Freddy, because he didn't understand how he did it

    Don't ask for another season. We did that before, Lynch punked us hard with The Return, and if he has to to it again he will punk is even harder. David Lynch doesn't believe in benign schmaltzy nostalgia except as a thin veil over the deepest darkness. And that's what Twin Peaks was always about: it had the trappings of a banal small town soap opera, but underneath...
    The ending of something that you love is always going to be bittersweet at best, but given what Coop was up against and what he'd already lost (25 years of his life) it obviously wasn't going to end well for him.
    The happy ending went to Dougie instead. As for Coop/Richard and Laura/Carrie, they died with Jow-Day in the Trap World.

    • @Calriec

    • @icecreamalacarte
      @icecreamalacarte 7 лет назад +2

      @Alex
      Year was irrelevant as time was inconsequential insomuch as what alternate reality it was (i.e. the different names in the letter Diane left). Though, Chalfont, from the Black Lodge, had lived in the Palmer house prior is some ominous theme in that evil resonates in that house regardless.
      And the fact that Sarah Palmer was around the age of that frog/locust that climbed into that girls mouth, which leaves me under the impression that there has been an evil in her from the beginning. If you go back to the original series, there is a scene (I'm sorry as I can't place the ep in my head) where Leland answers the door but prior he speaks to Sarah Palmer (off camera) upstairs as Bob. Also "The horse is the white of the eye and the dark within,"- Sarah and her visions. The Joo-Day, Judy, resides in Sarah Palmer in some form.
      There is no answer only what you can piece together.

    • @AlexDeLarge1
      @AlexDeLarge1 7 лет назад +1

      DJD &c.
      Year was very important. Sarah Palmer lives somewhere. The reunion between Sarah and Laura seems very important to Cooper, who is in on very important info.

    • @icecreamalacarte
      @icecreamalacarte 7 лет назад +1

      @Alex Yes, there is the info older Laura speaks into Coop's ear that we'll never be privvy too, which leads to this; endless speculation for fans and speaking as to how they interpret it. The importance of him reuniting alternate Laura with Sarah doesn't negate the fact that, though Coop wants to do right, there is a cosmic force that is always out of his hands: a huge point re-iterated in this season.

      Lynch tends to write the character for the actor rater than find the actor for the character. Back in the original series he wrote the characters Madeline for Sheryl Lee and Audrey for Sherilyn Fenn. Neither character was planned out in the scripts but Lynch built them around the actresses after meeting them. With Madeline he felt bad for making Sheryl Lee play a dead body in a plastic bag on a cold day so he gave her a second role.

      Some of the credits scenes this year were "just" a band continuing to play. But sometimes we got one like the week where we saw the motel courtyard outside Jefferies' room with the creepy lady hanging around (the one who let Dark Coop/Evil Coop/Dopplecoop/Mr. C/call him what you will into that room earlier that same ep).
      And then after the credits all scrolled by, we saw her there in the shadows, bein' all creepy. So in some ways I do think that's still part of the ep. It's fair to say that a flashback to Laura whispering in Coop's ear is the last thing we saw, since... it kinda was. And boy do we wish we could overhear that flashback.

    My theory about the finale (feel free to make fun of me): (SPOILER ALERT!)
    Agent Cooper & Co. were following a vague plan set by Briggs, Jeffries, or Mike or the Fireman, etc. where they knew what to do, but not really many details, otherwise. But basically, Coop went to the past to keep Laura from dying, but maybe he didn't know he was going to the past until he got there. All he knew was that he needed to "bring Laura home". But all that truly needed to happen was the prevention of her murder so that after "*the return*" folks would think she was returning from having gone missing, not from being dead.
    So, the theory is: the Laura that we knew was actually Carrie Page. She was a doppleganger that was swapped with the real Laura Palmer at a very early age. It makes sense as to why Bob was obsessed with living inside Carrie, just as he had Mr. C. In the red room, she says she *felt like she knew Laura* (followed by - sometimes her arms bend back).
    Then, with Diane, Dale entered the doppleganger world. He knew that he and Diane would feel like different people because when dopplegangers enter the other world, they gain their memories - same as Mr. C (whose name in this world is Richard, or as I call him, Richard Sr. because his son's name was also Richard) gaining Coop's memories when he entered ours. But because Richard Sr. is now dead, thanks to Lucy, Coop was still Coop - somewhat. Certain essences of him changed, as we saw. However, Diane actually became Linda because, as we saw at the hotel, Linda was still alive. I can't explain the time change (where Coop is when he falls asleep vs. when he woke up).
    So anyway, he somehow knows exactly which city to go to, to find Laura. Clearly, there are details of a plan that he was told that we weren't privy to, but based on his uncertainties, he wasn't given all the details, either. So, he found Laura (who thinks she's Carrie Page) and there's the dead body on the couch, but it looks like an orb came out of his stomach - so it's most likely a bad guy that she seemingly destroyed (she's good!). Fast forward to Laura standing in front of what should've been the Palmer house. She suddenly hears Sarah in her mind and begins to remember everything somehow (possibly on account of Carrie still being alive - now that she was never murdered), starts screaming, and Judy's doppleganger world starts glitching and possibly ending, altogether. It hasn't happened, yet, but we are left to assume Judy's world dies and Laura goes home - or that's the plan - two birds one stone. Coop hadn't put two and two together. He was just confused and following a plan, but once he had Laura, he didn't know where to go, or rather, how to get there. Anyway, I don't know if I did a good job of explaining, and I'm not even sure that I buy it 100% (because there's never any telling), but this is the theory that makes me feel the most excited about a prospect for Season 4!! Oh, please let their be a 4th season!!

    Of course we all have expectations and they can't ever really be met, especially with someone like Lynch. I still have to say it took very long for Cooper to show up again in the end and I felt a bit short changed when the Twin Peaks folks like Andy saw evil Coop first, only minutes before real Coop and couldn't really celebrate it because everybody was preoccupied with the evil Coop situation. But that's just my personal feelings, I really enjoyed most of all 3 seasons. watched them for the first time in the past few weeks finally at 39 years of age - quite surprised about all the inspirations the game Life Is Strange and it's prequel - some of my all time favourites - drew from the show 🦋

    For me, the return was about the sheer power and finality of death. You can't change nature. The entire series was always about this sad, young life ending, and the sheer tragedy of it, and nothing can ever change that, even across realities.

    I don't think there's a person in this universe (apart from maybe Bob) who doesn't like SA Dale Cooper.

    My favorite timelines is the one where original Cooper decided to go back to his wife and kid (Jones) after they won over bad Cooper and brought Diane back. This is the timeline where he knows all the characters from the original and acts like original Cooper.
    The final episode Cooper and Diane are probably both manufactured copies that happened to escape the lounge. Obviously they wouldn't know that they're copies but also have the same information as the other Cooper and Diane. He and Diane drove a mid 1960s Lincoln continental car to the hotel. After he woke up with Diane gone, the car is a early 2000 Lincoln Town car, which suggest that they're in between the start of Twin Peaks and the Return series. The time jumped but Cooper is still the same age (plus the older Laura). We don't know if this is intentional or if they just didn't have the budget to de-age them, so it makes it really hard to dissect. Is old Laura the Judy of this timeline. She acts like she's surprise when Cooper knows the information he knows and pretends to be clueless considering she probably killed that man in the house. The fact that Cooper doesn't really care seeing a dead man tells us he's obviously not the original Cooper. When they get to the house, she does the infamous screams and breaks all the light. We know from the one scene of the old lady (possibly Judy) that bite that one guys face off, she also scream in the similar manner. Laura wouldn't have the power to break any light, but Judy would. It's all a dream so nothing matters anyways.
    Of course, well all know that season 3 is just Lynch's excuse to write more speaking roles for himself LOL

    Loved Twin Peaks as a teenager and this new series was brilliant. Coop was great.

    I think most twin peak fans have been tricked. David Lynch was never trying to write a cohesive mystery and then solve said mystery. There are cryptic clues, yes, and these clues point to characters or previous scenes, but once you figure out the connection, there is no aha moment or reveal, it's all empty. And the reason it's all empty is david is here displaying his art for the world to see, he's getting oddball ideas and fever dreams and wacking those disconnected independant ideas on a script and then bullshitting his way to connecting them together into something that kind of makes sense. Notice all of the scenes where there is a gross out body horror image or when a character is frozen/slowed down/flickers on the screen, this is all his art (refer to interviews on him as an artist), this is all davids art and it's art he is displaying for us, the public visiting his "gallery". It's nonsensical because it's not being written to make sense, just like most of his movies. It's an experience and any plotting is done so that the show is not _completely_ pointless and disconnected.

      Honestly, I am not sure why anyone ever thought that it would be a simple murder mystery. Perhaps ABC was to blame for that. Anyone familiar with anything Lynch has ever created should have known better than to think it would be a cute "whodunnit". TP, then and now, is a rich journey that invites us to explore the caverns deep within ourselves, and challenge our notions of identity (who are we?), causality (why/how have things come to be the way they are?), epistemology (how do we know what we know?), and the many unknown, uncertain, and unexplainable elements of the worlds within and without. A journey which, like real life, tends to raise new questions just as quickly as the old ones are (apparently) answered. And leaves us with some strange mix of satisfaction and deep, disorienting uneasiness. I think we would have been tricked if Lynch had done anything less.

    Man, I want to forget most of the good parts and watch the entire thing over again, but I guess I'll have to wait a few years for that.
