Just watched Dear John, and I really had to listen to this song all over again! Why so painful in the heart? Common! Literally crying whenever Im listening to this song.
This movie summed up my deployment and leave perfectly! I was doing my first tour of duty over in afghanistan back in 2009 with the Princess Patricias Royal Canadian light infantry, 1 CMBG, 3rd Canadian Div, i met my fianće during my leave when i returned to alberta, where i stayed for 4 weeks and we decided to get engaged , i returned to afghanistan to finish my deployment, We wrote often, or atleast i tried to write as often as possible, she wrote as often as i did. A week before i was scheduled to go home, i recieve a letter from her, she mentioned one of my good buddies was keeping her company, and to not worry, which after recieving it i call her, she told me nothing was happening. It was the day i was heading home to my fianće, i told her id be home 5 days later so i could surprise her, i open the door to our house and enter, proceeding to walk past the living room towards the bedroom, since it was 3, she had the day off so i expected her to be watching a movie in our room, i quietly open the door to find her with my friend, i stare at the both of them before packing my shit and leaving, i went to live with my parents for a month after what happened, and ended up re-upping because there wasnt much for me at home, atleast over there i was doing something. But up until 2013 i took a 7.62 to the right femur, shattered it and had to have half of it amputated, and as you can guess i was removed from service cant get a proper job now, if you want my advice, dont do relationships and the army at the same time, it takes your mind off the mission, you need %100 concentration to pull through, and i let my emotion get the better of me. I just felt i needed to put this out there, because i guarantee i am not the only one who has had this happen, and i want to spread more awareness to those who havent, thank you for reading, have a blessed day! I saw this film at the cinema with my first love, when I was 18. It was bittersweet as it wasn’t long before he was due to move from the UK to Canada. When we first got together 2 years prior, we always knew he had to leave, but we loved each other and stayed together until the very last day. I was heartbroken when he left, and this song and film always bring back memories of him. It’s been 10 years and he’s now happily married and I’ve been with my boyfriend 5 years and we’re buying a house together. Who knows if i would’ve stayed together with my first love if he never left, but I will always remember him fondly.

I am still listening to this song 2018 😉 when the movie was released my former boyfriend and I were separated due to his work commitment (he is a special force until now, often being deployed to mideast countries for months and months) and our family would not agree on our relationship at that time as i was studying my degree. we dont see each other anymore except we bump into each other somewhere at the street looking at each other while our hearts are doing the talking. It is hard but life must go on.
So i have a John in my life. and his name is actually John. He left today to Israel to the army. And God knows how much i will miss him. He told me three days ago he loved me and he would always be there for me after i gave him a letter i wrote him. I love him so much, he's the best thing that happened to me, He's just purely amazing, I've met tons of people in my life, and no one surpasses his greatness. i'll be thinking about him with this song now.
