If those songs don't represent them then they shouldn't have released them. Dynamite and butter perfectly represent them and there's nothing wrong with that. Stop undermining their songs.
@@anabhousen7159 It represents their performance ability but not really them since they had no hand in writing any of the purchased English songs. They were fun songs but BTS' discography contains more personal material.
@@lincohorn7750 I Agree with the part that BTS' discography contains more deep and personal songs that would represent them better, but Dyna and Butter are their songs too and definitely do represent one of many sides of their versatility. BTS chose to participate in these songs and proudly Identify with them, so let's not degrade the songs by calling them 'Purchased Songs' just because BTS didn't involve in the writing. Lots of artists' greatest hits weren't written by them, but are still recognized as THEIR songs. Also, you are wrong about BTS not having a hand in writing English songs. RM is one of the writers for Butter.
there's honestly no song that could "represent" BTS as a whole in terms of genres cause they're very diverse.. they love exploring other genres and going out of their comfort zone.. they can be dark as Black Swan or as bright as Dynamite. and a lot of their songs are dark masked with upbeat music. the one with purple hair is their leader
Actually the one with purple hair is Jimin who did most of the solo dancing. RM is the leader and his hair was blonde here. He’s the one that made you comment” I love his hair. His hair is amazing.” Don’t go by hair colours. They change the colour constantly.
Conceptually Black Swan speaks on their fear of loosing their passion for their art. There is a quote that kind of inspires the whole song "A dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing. The first death is the more painful." You'll learn pretty quickly how diverse they are in genre and concept. It's enough to give you whiplash. They'll do a banger like Mic Drop then turn around and release a heart breaking ballad like House of Cards from the vocal line. If you want to see something more upbeat perhaps something like Dope, Idol, or Fire, those have MV's. Another great one is Run BTS off of their most recent album Proof. No MV but there is a dance practice video and they also performed it live in their free concert in Busan. I highly recommend live performances, they are beasts on stage.
Thank you for explaining the concept of the video! Being a mix of interpretive dance and Kpop, I took it completely different, and am glad you could clear that up!
@chillbydesign Also, one of the members, Jimin, is actually trained in contemporary dance. He's the one with purple hair here. He was top of his class in his performing arts high school.
Hey!! Good reaction There is a guide made by Taylor The bangtan 7 They said that this song is about the fear of loosing the passion of their art This quote by Martha Graham said “a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” But each person can give the meaning that they want to the song
BTS is not your typical K-Pop. They are a genre all their own, The dancer was Jimin just one of the lead dancers yet they all dance in all the videos and concerts which makes them unique since they sing rap and dance live. Look forward to seeing you fall into the rabbit hole of BTS, Army (their fanbase) will gladly guide you through your journey
As you probably know, I'm a huge fan of BTS, and I feel like I need to clear up a misconception that some people have about them. While it's true that BTS is an incredibly talented group of musicians, singers, and dancers, they are so much more than that. They are artists in every sense of the word. Their music speaks to people all over the world, and their message of love, self-acceptance, and social awareness is more important now than ever before. BTS is a group that has worked hard to break down barriers and stereotypes, and they have done so with incredible grace and humility. They are not just entertainers, they are activists, advocates, and role models for millions of people. So, the next time someone tells you that BTS is just a group of guys who can sing and dance, I hope you'll remember that they are so much more than that. They are a force for good in the world, and their impact is truly immeasurable. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you'll continue to support BTS in all that they do.💜
They filmed the MV at the Los Angeles Theatre in the Broadway Theatre District in Los Angeles. Most Army (BTS fans) would say Dynamite, Permission to Dance (written by Ed Sheeran) and Butter are the least BTS-like songs they’ve done. They used outside writers (rare for BTS) to make a few songs for Army while they were going through Covid, to help Army stay happy and positive. That said, not many BTS songs are as dark as Black Swan. They do keep us guessing as to what genre each new song may be. BTS writes songs with great meaning, generally speaking the majority of Kpop isn’t like that, usually much more shallow content. But there are lots of great songs from other groups too. Haven’t found anything that can hold a candle to BTS lyrics on most songs. They of course have some that are more simple flex songs. I like the guide by xCeleste best, just because it does touch on a breakdown of Army age and gender diversity. I’d watch both hers and Taylor’s. For now, you’ll get a million suggestions, no matter what order you go in someone will think (and write, maybe in ALL CAPS) that you need to do it differently. But there is no right or wrong way. Jump in, enjoy the variety of their work and just have fun.
Great heads-up about the gate-keepers! I hate when new reactors'get discouraged by the way some people think there is only one way of experiencing BTS.
Thank you for helping me with info and suggestions! I loved their choice of venue, it kept the MV dark, but classy! I have both of those guides on the list, and I appreciate the passion all of the fans show, both positive and negative! No matter the comment, it helps to know what people are most passionate about! That is how new fans are made or broken, and how reactors discover the best/worst content to react to.
@@chillbydesign That's a good way to look at it. Just don't let yourself get bullied out of the joy of the journey. Stay honest and open-minded, and ARMY will show up and support you!
BTS debuted in 2013, BP debuted in 2016. Also... I can't stress enough to break yourself out of the mindset of "Kpop" when it comes to BTS. Technically they DO fall under that label, but Kpop is more of an industry than a genre. BTS are basically their OWN genre since they cover so many different genres and blend them within songs and albums. They have 10 YEARS worth of songs (over 300 tracks)... there is NO SUCH THING as ONE SONG that completely encompasses who BTS ARE. You need to delve a hell of a lot deeper into their discography and behind the scene videos to have true sense of WHO THEY ARE. If a single track could completely show WHO a group of SEVEN artists are... I don't think they'd be a group worth listening to. Taylor's guide is the most recent and complete, but there are others as well. BTS is actually releasing an official 'How we became who we are' type of documentary on Disney+ sometime this Summer or Fall.
Oh, THANK YOU for letting me know about the Disney+ event, I will keep that on my radar! I have read a lot of comments that make it clear I need to hear more of them! As a first time listener, it is a bit overwhelming when people tell me my interpretation is wrong, but I look forward to understanding their other sides and paying more attention to the messages they are writing in lyrics! Thank you for your comments!
@@chillbydesign It is a VAST discography... take your time. :) There are a number of BTS things on Disney+. Their entire concert "Permission To Dance" is on there as well as "J-Hope in the Box" - a documentary of J-Hope's (one of the rappers) making of his first solo album (one previous mix-tape) "Jack in the Box" and his headlining of Lollapalooza last July. SUGA (another of the three rappers) has his first solo album (he has two previous mix-tapes out) "D-Day" dropping on April 21st and there will also be a documentary on Disney+ of his journey making the album- also out on the 21st.
Let's go to "On(Kinetic manifesto film)" and "Mic drop"! You will see how versatile they are. Welcome to the BTS. Thank you for giving a chance to them. If you had no prejudice, you would meet the whold different world! : )
Interestingly enough, Dynamite/Butter/PTD are actually more along the lines of what pop-boybands are perceived as, but those songs were actually the anomalies of BTS's discography. Many people don't give BTS a chance because they just associate them with every other k-pop or even any other boy-band and think they're all the same. I can tell you I thought the same thing and gave my Army friends a hard time at first. BTS is very thought provoking. If you react to them a little longer, you'll realize that there are layers to their music. On the surface level, you'll find up-beat, catchy songs. A layer down, it may sound like a love song. Below that is probably another message, and if you go even deeper there's probably hidden messages related to psychology or art, or novels, or poems, etc. Another reactor (I forgot the name at the moment) mentioned that BTS is like a movement, which I agree. BTS uses their music/popularity/platform to try and make the world a better place, and try to help their fans go through hard times and become better people. You don't have to like all their music, but you can't have anything bad to say about a group who's trying to use their popularity for good. I personally think it's very refreshing compared to other popular artists that just use their fame for selfish reasons or just add to the already messed up society we live in. React to a few more of their songs with an open mind and you'll see why they are so loved. We can start with their music first, because BTS goes beyond music and I don't want to overwhelm you with everything they are just yet. Half the fun is discovering that stuff yourself anyways. Hope you enjoy the journey 💜
Thank you for sharing! If you have a suggestion for the the next song, or one that makes sense to start with to understand them, I would appreciate it!
@@chillbydesign let's keep it easy for now. don't want to dig too deep yet. Just to give you a taste of different types of songs they can do (they have over 300 songs). One thing to keep in mind is that every artist sounds good in their official MVs, since it's studio produced and even the dancing looks amazing (especially K-pop groups) because they really just need to dance hard for 10 secs and rely on post-production editing. BTSs' live performances are what sets themselves apart from others as performers because their energy level and 200% performance is like no other. They also write a lot of their music so you can feel the pain/emotions they felt when they were writing the songs and when they perform it. Since you just started on the BTS journey, i won't recommend too much that shows off their emotional performances since I don't think you'll fully understand it at this point. Idol: RM and Suga were underground rappers before joining BTS, they got a lot of hate for joining an idol group. and the group themselves got a lot of hate. So they did this song. It's speculated that the video is over-the-top as mockery towards how K-pop MVs are done. Most k-pop MVs are high in production, lots of fancy sets and outfits, flashy lights, etc. ON Manifesto Film: this gives you an idea of their swag and dancing. There's also a dance practice and a live performance done on Jimmy Fallon at the Grand Central Terminal. There's also the official MV that gives a totally different vibe. I need you: This is part of a fictional story line that runs through a few albums and MVs. This song gave them their first win. Don't go too in-depth on this one yet as there's SO much to unpack. I don't even fully understand the story yet. It can be a whole separate journey on it's own. But i think it's a nice sample of their discography. Just based on this MV, you will hear the lyrics "i need you girl" and you'll think it's a love song towards a girl. But if you watch the video, it's actually love towards the group of friends. You can see that they're happy when they're together, but they are actually going through their own individual struggles outside of the group. This touches on very real scenarios in life Cypher Part 3: No music video. you can do the colour coded lyric videos or a live. This is a sample of what the rap line can do House of Cards (Live): This is a sample of what the vocal line can do. I suggest the live because they put a lot of emotions into their performance that might be missed from a lyric video. Spring Day: This was a very controversial video/song. It calls out a tragedy that happened in south korea. I didn't fact check this, but i was told it's been 7 years and this song is still charting in Korea for that very reason. To give you an idea of how deep their songs can go, you can follow up with explanation videos on this song. ruclips.net/video/Tye1ONFeKis/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/видео.html Let's start there first. I'll keep an eye for your reactions and will recommend as you keep going. One of my guilty pleasures now is watching BTS reaction videos. I like it when reactors can find other meanings/metaphors that i might have missed. It's like reading coles notes for BTS. 💜
@@cassiedlp847 I think it was jim grimes. i watch jurnalist too. i used to watch all the reactors, but many of them aren't very genuine or believable. I like it when they take a deeper dive into the lyrics/music/messages. When they just scream and cheer for everything, seems a bit fake. Especially when all they can comment on is their hair or outfits 🙄

Black Swan is one of the best BTS song. Probably top 5 and Masterpiece for me. Many experts such as Producers, vocal coach, rappers who make their own music ,Editors, poets, etc called this song masterpiece mentioning perfect blend of melody, beat ,lyrics, singing and also appreciating the artistic elements represented in the MV. Many people also said that Black Swan should have been nominated by Grammy instead of Dynamite but Grammy nominated Dynamite because it was in English and song broke many records. I really appreciate your reaction and I hope in time you will realise this song is masterpiece. If you listen again and this song is not what kpop really is. I hope you understand my comment bcoz I am not good in English.
thank you for giving me your take! As a Westerner, I can understand why Dynamite appealed, since it had an upbeat, pop flavor compared to the dark tone this song had. You are also correct in saying English made it more popular. Americans especially tend to only have one language under their skill set, which is English. I am not an exception!
Black Swan was one of the main tracks from Map of the Soul: 7. Their Map of the Soul albums explored the psychological concepts of Carl Jung, the idea of the Persona, Shadow, and Ego, as related to the members themselves. Black Swan addresses one of their "Shadows", the fear of losing their passion for music. That's why it was so dark. Black Swan is actually a huge fan favorite.
Here are some reasons why you should stan BTS: Their music: BTS produces high-quality music with meaningful lyrics that tackle a range of topics such as mental health, self-love, social issues, and more. Their performances: BTS is known for their high-energy and impressive live performances. They are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in a live show. Their personalities: Each BTS member has their own unique personality that fans love. They are all funny, charming, and relatable in their own way. Their message: BTS advocates for self-love, positivity, and the importance of mental health. Their message has resonated with fans all around the world. Their impact: BTS has broken numerous records and has been recognized by many for their impact on the music industry and their philanthropic efforts. Their growth: BTS has come a long way since their debut in 2013. Fans have been able to watch them grow and mature as artists and individuals, making it easy to feel a connection with them. Their fandom: The BTS fandom, known as ARMY, is one of the largest and most supportive fandoms in the world. Being a part of this community can bring a lot of joy and support to your life. These are just a few reasons why you should consider stanning BTS💜
I plan on listening to more of them so I have a better understanding of why they are so popular! I'm absolutely sure it's not a fluke they have a large fan base all over the world.
Jimin is the one who did all of the solo dancing. This is a song about fearing the loss of passion for their music, their art. So, it is.a dark song, but it turns around at the end.. It is one of their more popular songs. If you hadn't started with it, I am almost positive that it would have been one that was recommended to you. You're not going to get the "usual" K-Pop sound / genre from BTS. They flow through different genres of music.....fluidly. All of their music has meaning, so it is important to read the lyrics. By the way, there were two members who had the corsets - Jimin and Jung Kook. (lol) I did enjoy your reaction and look forward to seeing more. Thank you.
Jimin is one of the names I heard my friends say a lot, that's probably why it stuck with me so easily. I am glad to put a face to the name! Thanks you for the support!
Every comeback (new release) is eagerly awaited because we have no idea what genre the song will belong to. But no matter the genre, it will be well written, well produced, well performed, and the MV will be wonderfully done. Sometimes the biggest bops are the most political, and sometimes we need explanations from Koreans as to the meanings of some tihings. They make us "ohh and ahh", of course, but more importantly they make us *think*.
I have the same feeling about the group I Stan, and have a hard time remaining unbiased about their music. So I can understand the feeling when a new album drops! When it comes to reacting, I will remain as neutral as I can, but there will always be that biased part of me that gravitates towards genres I have always liked and away from genres I have no experience in! Thank you for your comments!~
First impressions are always exciting because I just know your mind is going to be blown later on. 😂 Their discography is vast and varied! You’re going to love going down this rabbit hole. From what I understand I have only grazed the song s that the fanbase deems superficial compared to the rest of their discography, so I look forward to being impressed by them soon!
Well, in my opinion, this song represents BTS much more than Butter or Dynamite. Those two songs were done more for the minestream public but they are a lot deeper in their songs and Black Swan shows that part of them so much. I like it better than Butter or Dynamite for sure even though I also like those two, but if I had to chose, it would be Black Swan without doubt :)
man this is a path of no return...bts leaves us delighted and in love with each mv, with each live performance and that shows how good they are at what they do... best choice of my life, i love these guys so much
Black Swan is talking about losing their passion for music would be their 1st death. Like the movie about ballet dancers it has the theme that if a ballerina couldn’t dance any more it would be her 1st death. Losing what you love &bare passionate about would feel like dying.
BTS is one of the most successful artists and the biggest band in the world. They collaboratied with a lot of artists such as: Snoop Dogg, Steve Aoki, Juice WRLD, Wale, Lauv, Fall Out Boy, Warren G, Jason Derulo, Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, Halsey, Becky G, MAX, J.Cole, Desiigner, Coldplay, Zara Larsson, Lil Nas X, Charlie Puth, ...(+more) The group consists of 7 members (including 3 rappers and 4 vocalist) from South Korea. RM - Kim Nam-joon (age 28) - Rapper, Leader Jin - Kim Seok-jin (age 30) - Singer Suga aka AgustD(as a solo artist) - Min Yoon-gi (age 30) - Rapper J-Hope - Jung Ho-seok (age 29) - Rapper Jimin - Park Ji-min (age 27) - Singer V - Kim Tae-hyung (age 27) - Singer Jungkook - Jeon Jeong-guk (age 25) - Singer All of them are songwriters and music producers. They do not have a specific target audience - people of all age groups and genders listen to them. BTS make music in a lot of different genres and styles, as a group they have a huge amount of songs(300+), and also each of them has their own solo stuff, so depending on what kind of music you are interested in, you really have a lot to choose from. 10 y/o group with MASSIVE discography. Like about 230 songs. Plus about 70 solo member tracks. And tons of covers. Very involved in their own songwriting and production and renowned for their dancing. They’ve work HARD in those 10 years to earn all their success
Yay, another newbie to BTS, we can’t wait to watch your journey 💜 I think you’ll be surprised how much you’ll enjoy them, their catalog of work is just amazing. They span various styles and genres, that sets them apart from everyone. They’re the hardest working hence most successful globally but the sweetest most humble at the same time. You don’t see artists like these often, definitely not in the West. They are real role models. Please react to ON Kinetic Manifesto, that came out during 2020, that was a big comeback time for them unfortunately the pandemic threw off the plans of touring and performances. But they did make an appearance and perform several times on Jimmy Fallon for fans to enjoy from home. They performed “ON Kinetic Manifesto” at Grand Central Station and they performed “Home”. Home doesn’t have an mv so that performance is the best one to watch for that song.
BTS does so many genres, you can't really fit them into one type of music. I found BTS through this song also, in May 2021. I am way down the rabbit hole. Black Swan has to do with their fear of losing their passion for music and dancing. It's based on a movie of the same name wherein a ballerina died her first death (losing her ability to dance), which is said to be worse or more painful than the final death. A lot of BTS lyrics are deep. Not all and certainly not the 3 all-English songs that came out during the pandemic to help make their fan base (and others) feel better. They are Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance. Most of their songs are in Korean with some English, or in Japanese with some English. To get to know who they are, please watch "An Introduction to BTS: The Bangtan 7" by Taylor Mari. It probably explains the most of each member, and it shows a little bit of their history/beginnings and then shows each member in the order they joined Big Hit (now part of Hybe) and joined BTS. I think you'll be amazed. Also, just know that A LOT has happened since May 2022 (the date that video is current as of). I can't help with any other groups, because as far as K-Pop I only know of the groups, but don't listen to the other groups. I consider BTS to be beyond K-Pop at this point. They are Global stars now, both as a group and as solo artists. More on that later.
I highly recommend the guide "The Bangtan 7" by Taylor Mari. It's not only the most recent but also the most comprehensive as it describes both the group, members and fandom all in one. It's really difficult pointing to a song of theirs and saying that's BTS because they do EVERYTHING from neosoul to battle style rap and the subjects are just as varied: Greek mythology, socio-economic issues, Jungian psychology, classical litterature, astronomy, marine biology and so much more. Trust me, these guys are something else. There's a reason their fandom alone is bigger than the rest of the kpop fandoms combined and includes all genders, ages, faiths and nationalities. -a danish ARMY, age 46 💜
The channel Taylor has a very well-made introduction video called Guide to the BTS Members: The Bangtan 7, highly recommended. If you want to hear to them go much harder into rap, check out Outro: Tear by their 3 rappers. Or any solo song by their 3 rappers, like Joke by RM, Daechwita by Agust D, or Daydream by J-Hope. If you want something with jazz/blues vibes, go with Rain by BTS or House of Cards by their 4 vocalists. If you want neo-soul, check out Singularity by their vocalist V. Lots of other genres they do, but those are my recs for now.
@@chillbydesign yup lol, BTS was actually built around their rappers, 2 of whom (RM and Suga) were underground battle rappers. The 2 of them are also the primary songwriters and producers for the group. BTS originally was a hip-hop group, so a lot of their older stuff is going to be more hip-hop. Born Singer is one of their rap-heavier songs that's has all 7 members on it, it's their own rendition of Born Sinner by rapper J. Cole. Hip Hop Lover is another rap heavier BTS song, you'd have to be very knowledgeable in American old school hip-hop to truly appreciate that song.
@@chillbydesign also just a heads up if you're going to explore other groups like Blackpink - don't compare them to each other, you'll just piss off all the fanbases lol. Though, being a listener of both groups and many other Korean artists, just have to say honestly that BTS is miles above Blackpink in artistry. The main reason being Blackpink does not write or produce their own music like BTS does. And Blackpink's lyrical topics revolve around common things like romantic love or dance party music. While BTS also do those type of songs, the majority of their songs go into very deep and personal topics such as their personal stories, Jungian psychology, philosophy, mental health and socio/political commentary - these deeper topics are not common in the kpop industry, where the songs are largely shallow and aren't that personal.
@@janetuss6496 I didn't mean to compare them if I did, I just thought they debuted around the same time, since they became popular in America around the same time! It is exactly the reason I avoid listening to multiple artists cover the same song, so I don't compare them! Thanks for your wise words!
@@janetuss6496 i don't get why are you excluding j-hope from "primary songwriters of the group" conversation when he has almost the same amount of credits as suga
The truth is that most BTS fans, including me, don't like kpop 😂BTS is not like other groups if you expect to see something that you already know from other groups you will not find it here, BTS always gives visibility to each of the members so that everyone can have their moment within the song, even within the albums of BTS all members have a solo song, and they are currently releasing solo albums due to military service and they support each other, they are like a family
Hi, thank you for taking the time to look into BTS. You'll find out there is more than meets the eye when it comes to BTS. I think you will really enjoy this band once you get to know more about it. Their story is great, they started from nothing and were the underdogs because they came from a small agency. Now that "small" agency is on the cover of Time Magazine as one of the most influential companies. My apologies in advance if this gets a little long, SORRY! I just want to help you out with some key things to know. - BTS = Bulletproof boy scouts (Bantang Soyeaondan in Korean), and it stands for being bulletproof to stereotypes, bulling and criticism. - Kpop (common misconception but it is not a genre) it's an industry. BTS started as a hip hop group in 2013, but quickly evolved and with in their 300+ song catalogue you can find pop, ballads, hip hop, R&B, EDM, rap, jazz, latin pop, etc. -There are 7 members: 3 rapers and 4 vocalists. Each of them so different from the other and bringing something unique to the table. *Kim Namjoon (RM): The leader of the group, born in 94' he is the main rapper, song writer, and super mega intelligent with an IQ of 148. He was the first member to be recruited and the band was built around him. He chose Rap Monster for his stage name, RM, but evolved and changed it to "Real Me". *Kim Seokjin (Jin): Born in 92' he is the oldest, and even though in Korea that means he has more privileges he doesn't use his "Hyung" (older brother) benefits. He is super funny and lovable. Was studding to become an actor when the recruiting team found him, and he was recruited mainly because of his good looks. He learned to sing and dance from 0, and now has one of the most beautiful voices in the industry. He is doing his military service right now. (they are taking a brake right now because they all have to go and will get back together in 2025) *Min Yoongi (SUGA): Born in 93' he is also a main rapper, song writer and producer. SUGA (ShooGua) means Shooting Guard, the position he played in his basketball team in high school. Yoongi is an introvert, who prefers to be in his studio writing songs, he writes an average of 300 songs a year. He writes and produces for other artists as well, not just BTS. *Jeon Hoseok (J-Hope): Born in 94' he is the lead dancer. His background is from street dancing. He also raps, and he is the happy engine of the group. He choose J-Hope for his stage name because he wanted to bring hope to people. *Park Jimin (Jimin): Born in 95' he is one of the main dancers, his background is in contemporary dance and was the last one to be recruited. Jimin has an angelic voice and a beautiful soul. *Kim Taehyung (V): Born in 95' Tae has one of the most unique soulful voices, he is the baritone of the group and has low tones and high pitches you wouldn't imagine. Have you heard the phrase "Think outside the box"? well, out of the seven that would be Tae. He is an artist in every aspect of the word. *Jung Jungkook (JK): Born in 97' he is the youngest of the group, also their main vocalist. He has the most stable voice specially when dancing... oh yeah they don't use playbacks, or lip sing, ever. JK is the "Golden Maknae" (Maknae = the youngest), RM gave him that nickname because he is good at everything he does... everything. -Their training period lasted about 2 years, where they lived in a dorm, many trainees came and went, about 30 I believe, and these 7 were chosen to become BTS. They were in their teens when they debuted, JK(youngest) was 16 and Jin(oldest) was 20. Their company, Big Hit entertainment (which mission statement is "Music and artist for healing") was a very small company, and the boys literary started from nothing. They all shared one room in their 2 room apartment and worked really hard to get where they are. -BTS's music talks about self-love, acceptance, political injustice, depression, mental health, empowerment and more important subjects you don't really see pop groups singing about. They do not write your typical "love song". Their videos and lyrics have a lot of symbolisms, and for some you might need to watch the explanation video afterwards because it is too much to take in. They have a couple of songs addressing their hatters (yes, they get a lot of hate - and Mic Drop is one of them), and other songs dedicated to ARMY (The name of their fandom). - ARMY is a huge fandom, with men and women from all ages. (Not all teenage girls like many people think) -Visually, their videos are master pieces. Eye candy for the visual artists like me, and if you are into videos and editing... their cinematography and productions will blow your mind. Keep in mind in the Kpop industry the use of make up and clothing is part of the whole illusion to complete the "stage" (presentation). -These guys are down to earth, genuine, good guys. You can see it in everything they do. They have dedicated the last 10 years since they debuted in 2013 to give to their fans... they had a variety show called Run BTS and do regular Vlives with their fans. They are rewriting what the relationship between an artist and their fans is, and that is why we love them so much. -They have produced so much content, there is something for everyone. Not just the genres of their music, but their variety show RUN BTS, v lives, staycation shows IN THE SOOP, vacation shows BON VOYAGE, bangtan bombs and episodes (which are behind the scenes of everything they do), and solo work. ***Please keep in mind in the Korean culture it's ok to be friendly/touchy/caring for your bro, aside the fact these guys have lived together for 10 years. They grew up together and treat each other like family. If you want to hear sample of their music and variety of genres, "Room Live: Festa 2021" is a great video for you to check. Also, to get to know about their history, who they are and why we love them so much it would be great for you to check "A guide to BTS" by Taylor. Don't be scared of long videos, ARMY loves them and will watch every second of them with you. Pause if you need to read. As for suggestions... they have over 300 songs.... what kind of music do you like? lol... UGH!, Cyphers Part 1-4, Ddaeng, Daechwita, Joke, Outro:Tear if you like rap . Also... Fire, Dynamite, DNA, Save me, GoGo, Dionysius, Not Today, So what... are good to get you started. Bbapsae, UGH, Idol, Spring day, blood sweat and tears (you'll need the explanation video afterwards) Fake Love, Blood Sweat and tears (eye candy videos - i mean cinematography and symbolism, not the cute guys - you will need explanation video for Blood Sweat and Tears) Their live presesntationss are amazing, and their BBMAS, AMAs, and Grammy's performances are really cool.... but nothing compared to the Asian Award Shows.... mmm... think about your favorite concert, mixed with cirque du solei, in a world cup stadium... and maybe you'll have an idea of what I'm talking about 😅. Start with their 2016 MMA... and go from there... 2016 was a turning point for them, that album got them their first BIG award, and it was the point where they truly embraced who they were and stoped trying to fit the Kpop molde. The MMA 2016 and MAMA 2016 live shows are amazing and they were so shocked to get artist and album of the year they were all crying. Those are good for you to start with their award show presentations. Many ARMYs will ask you for the MAMA 2019... but that is the Crown Jewel, I recommend you learn more about the band and their songs to truly apreciate it. (Keep in mind 2019 was the year they thought would be their last before going into military but covid hit the world making them postpone their military service 2+ years. They went all out for that award show, making it like a journey through their discography) Live presentations, MVs and dance practices will give you diferent perspectives and always something new to the song. ARMY will ask you to start reacting to their lives, and MVs, because they are amazing. And you will apreciate the fact that they sing live, they don't lip sing... all while doing all those dance moves. They do use backing tracks for effects, but they are singing live, and you can tell. They have connections between their songs and MVs, and easter eggs.... they do a lot of that. Some ARMYs will tell you it is because of the BU (Bangtang Universe) which is a parallel story line that runs through their MVs, but it is complemented with webtoons, blogs, video games, and other stuff to get the whole picture.... way to complicated for Baby ARMY and even older ARMY like myself. The good thing is that if you don't know the BU it's ok, because it is not really needed to understand their MVs. There are tons of video explanations mainly because of all the cultural references. But everything they do has a deeper message than what meets the eye. Quick example, and not the most impressive, but just the one that came to mind... the name of their song "Permission to Dance" is an anagram for "Stories on Pandemic". The production and thought process for their concepts are unprecedented in the music industry. Make sure to turn the captions on, they do sing some parts in english in some of them, but all of their songs are in mainly Korean and Japanese except for 3 that are fully in english. You can react to their videos from their official youtube channel, they don't do copyright clames if you show the intro. Ok , I'll stop here this is a lot of info. Sorry it got long. Welcome to the family! Can't wait to see your journey. ✌🏻💜
Yeah I almost hate that people always associate BTS with “Bubble Gum Pop”… even tho they are really good songs.. there is so much more to discover and listen to which also represents BTS a lot better…💜
unfortunately, mainstream radio doesn't think to add the rest of the discography of BTS so I am one of those people who are clueless as to what else they could sound like. However, I look forward to hearing more from them!
@@chillbydesign mainstream radio is completely biased and they suck. If you think about it they won't hesitate to play Spanish songs but for some reason Korean or Japanese goes too far. Its racist and xenophobic. Lets just say it how it is.
@@chillbydesign that is b/c US radio operates on payola, or pay to play. And BTS has been very vocal about doing music in honest ways, that means they dont do any shady payola. Not on radio, not on spotify for playlisting and not on youtube for adds. The US music industry hates them.
@@chillbydesign You may also have heard their collab with Coldplay, 'My Universe', released late 2021. Chris Martin wrote it for them after one of the BTS boys, Jin, mentioned wanting to work with them and someone passed it along. Jin is now in the Korean military (mandatory 18 months service) but before he enlisted, Chris wrote him another song (at his request) to 'say farewell to the fans for a while'. The youngest member, Jungkook (JK) did a collab with Charlie Puth as well; you may've heard the cute, poppy 'Left and Right' here or there. And JK sang FIFA's opening song this year, live in Qatar: 'Dreamers'.
Welcome! The song (like most of BTS songs) has a deeper meaning. This song represents their fear of losing the love and passion for what they do/their art and is inspired by a quote from Martha Graham who was an iconic dancer and choreographer; “A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.”
BTS is involved their music since begining (deput 2013) which was/still is quite rare in k-pop, 7 individual, different artists. There are 300+ (400+?) songs, solos, mixtapes, solo albums, singles, their japanese versions/songs, rap- and vocal-line songs, different BTS unit-, collab- and cover-songs, live conserts, awardshows... They have own variety-, travel- and vacation-shows, docu-series, behind shooting scenes/making MVs... and internet full of fanmade BTS clips... and lots of more... And if you want to know members better you can react Taylor Guide to BTS members. Sorry my english and greetings from the edge of Europe

A LOT of people have told me they have deep and meaningful lyrics, I will make sure to pay attention to them! I find the language barrier on RUclips Closed captions sometimes doesn't help me interpret lyrics. Thank you for your heartfelt comments!~
May I also add that they are genuinely good people.. they are very much aware or their platform and their impact on people and try their best to be good influences..if I am a parent, I would be happy my child will look up to them.. Let's be honest, we know a lot of great artists but we know we won't like hanging out with them..many would have attitude problems, do substance abuse of have unbelievably inflated egos..but not 💜ᗷTS⟭⟬💜..I have yet to come across someone who worked with them who has a bad thing to say about them, it's always a pleasure to work with them..and if you decide to watch more of them beyond music, you will find them as just a bunch of fun loving young men you can easily befriend..you will almost forget they are global superstars..
Thanks for the reaction! Hope you explore the rabbit hole further you won't regret it! Oh and Jimin and JK are wearing corsets not cumberbuns😉 💙💜💜💜💜💜💜🐋
"If you have suggestions"...son you opened a can that will never ever close. Congrats & welcome! While experiencing the flood. Remember, it's your channel. Don't burn out trying to keep up. While enthusiastic & a guaranteed view bump, folks are still visiting your house. 😀 they can chill a sec so you can eat, sleep & visit the lou. Black Swan .. 1st death for an artist when you either are not able to create nor able to perform. From the lyrics, if chosen to read or listen past the English (Dynamite/Butter), it expresses each one's worry about what to do after. This group draws inspiration from art & literature. Speaks to social issues & on occasion b/c they are wicked marketers while placate to gain entry and acceptance w/ fun & easier to digest pop. They couldn't get western radio play or awards doing Korean w/ English splash, so pandemic brought Dynamite, Butter & Permission to Dance but that is not a microbe of who they are nor what they can do but a more welcoming door most are more comfortable giving a try. If you like goofing and fun, try their series Run BTS, In the Soop, for free serotonin boast. Also, if watching for channel views.
What's different with them compared to most kpop groups they do produce and write their own songs and do choreographs too. The meaning and intent of their songs are not superficial. For me this song black swan is them confronting their shadows their darkest thoughts and fears and which is losing passion for what they do, which is art. And they compared that feeling of their first death when they longer want to do art and that is painful for them. " An artist dies twice and the first death is the most painful".
Butter and Dinamite were just the popular songs here in US because of the language. BTS has more than 230 songs, it's an amazing journey and they're different from the traditional Kpop groups. They excel in genres, lyrics, performance, choreography and more than anything, the outstanding talent each of the 7 members have, what makes a synergy unusual for a regular American standard. Their personalities are phenomenal, each of them shines in different ways and there is no way to avoid falling for them. What makes them more special is their genuine love for music and their fans, ARMY. They showcase each member, no one tries to overpower another, their mutual respect makes you want to become a better person. Enjoy it!
BTS is versatile, they never make one song alike and always bring new ideas and messages. Don't get caught up in thinking "this is the kind of music BTS would make" it doesn't exist for them. Not because it lacks style, but because each message, each feeling they want to convey, demands a different niche in music. They know how to work their concepts very well
I have been an ARMY for almost 7 years now and there truly is no artist that could compare to them. I have never been a fan of anyone before, and truly discovering BTS was as if I was discovering a lost part of me too. And honestly, BTS has grown more than the kpop scene - they're truly living legends. An actual artist. And most ARMYs will agree with the fact that ARMYs only support and like BTS, not kpop.
the thing is that butter and dynamite do not really represent bts that well, the members had a lot more contribution to a song like black swan than both dynamite and butter, whether its from the lyrics, to the concept and production. The lyrics are actually about THEM, about their feelings and fears. The song expresses the concept of the album itself, and is a part of the journey that comes with it. Dynamite and butter are singles written by american songwriters in a language they aren't even fluent in or know enough to express really complex feelings like black swan and other bts songs, how could these songs represent them better when they can't even speak that language fluently or wrote any of the lyrics ? BTS aren't just performers they are SONGWRITERS. Black swan is literally about the intricate fears of an artist, losing the passion for what made you start your art, in this case its music. It's the feeling of burning out, which got them to go on a break last year. BTS has many songs like black swan lyrically speaking about intricate feelings, while i can only name one other songs that is similar to butter and dynamite, that got released alongside butter to finish the english fun trilogy. BTS has a lot of upbeat music don't get me wrong, but even their most upbeat happiest sounding music often has really dark lyrics that comes with it. Not always as dark as black swan, the message can be more uplifting, coming froma dark place but with hopeful message, a conclusion of a past problem. Butter and dynamite are literally just about having fun. There's not much layers to it, it was made to cheer people up during the pandemic and reach a global audience, that's why they made english songs for the first time, cuz the pandemic affected everyone. it comes from a place with pure intentions, but its the intentions of bts themselves of chosing to perform it, not the intentions of the american songwriters who just wanted bts to sing this cuz its mainstream enough for radio and to be a summer hit. That song could've been handed to anyone else, it wouldn't be as big of a hit if it wasn't bts singing it, since they added the performance aspects, but it would've still be similar cuz bts didn't add a lot about them, the members, into the song, aside from their vocal tones and dancing skills and stage charisma.
It's amazing how many of the fan base have told me how much Butter and Dynamite do NOT represent their music, I will be sure to listen to more songs by them to get a better understanding of their concepts. It is painful for me, since I have only been exposed to the mainstream songs they put out on American radio, so that is what I have at my disposal to compare. Thank you for your heartfelt comments!
@@chillbydesign We also enjoy Dynamite and butter, because they are fun... but yeah, they are not BTS... Black swan is absolutely BTS. Ugh, blood sweet and tears, ON, friends, silver spoon, attack on bangtan, dope, fire, save me, house of cards, blue and grey, the truth untold, lie, epiphany, mic drop, ddaeng, idol, DNA, spring day, go go, boy in luv, the whole bulletproof serie, al the cyphers.... life goes on, yet to come... That's all BTS.... OMG, there is so much to discover! I hope you dare...
Welcome to BTS and ARMY 💜 I hope that as you see more you will realise that this group is incredible. All 7 members are talented artists and each brings something special. The 7 members stagd names are RM (the leader-middle of group in age after J Hope), then in age order Jin, Suga (solo stage name Agust D), J Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook (also called JK at times). The entertainment company they have a contract with was called BigHit but is now HYBE, BigHit Music. Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance are their only fully English songs and not actually representative of their music. These were created to bring a little cheer and hope to their fans (called ARMY) during the pandemic. They actually do not have "a" music style as they cover multiple genres. Black Swan is part of the Map of the Soul (MOTS) album set comprising MOTS Persona and MOTS 7 albums. They explore Jungian theories of the persona, shadow and ego. In Black Swan they sing about their shadow which for them is their fear of losing passion for their music, and if that fear materialises it will be like dying their first death, more painful than their actual death - taken from a quote from Martha Graham about not being able to dance anymore. The shadows in the MV move independently of the singers. The Jungian theory is that you need to accept all aspects of yourself so face your fears and acknowledge they are there. At one point Suga reaches out and touches his shadow on the wall saying he looked inside and saw himself. When they are dressed in white they are being viewed from the audience perspective - this is their Persona selves, what they display to the public. When they are wearing black they are being viewed from behind the stage or behind the scenes and this is their shadow selves. At the end scene, JK is watching his shadow and accepting his fear as part of himself so the shadow shrinks and disappears. This is an extremely clever MV and song to portray their acceptance of their shadow, their fears, acknowledging them and continuing on despite the fear, growing as a person to understand their true selves. BTS shares their lives with us and have always shown their feelings, dark and light. This is one of the reasons the bond between the group and us ARMYs us so strong. They allow us to give them support on a more intimate level than any other artist I know and I am 50 years old. I thoroughly recommend a guide. I like Taylor's guide to the Bangtan 7 the most and The Most Beautiful Moment in Life updated version by Rice Squad. ARMY will sit through and length of video so please do not worry about how long the quides are or pausing, going back etc.
BTS is not the typical KPOP group. They are way beyond that. Instead of randomly react to any song. It always nice to start BTS journey from the beginning 2013. If you really to dive into BTS. Starts with color coded lyrics, MV, dance practice, live performances.
I recommend On kinetic manifesto if you're looking for them to showcase their dance moves and vocals. BTS has 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. They have group songs and solos. Jimin was the solo dancer. He is a main dancer and lead vocalist and has a background in contemporary and hip hop. The one that you said you liked his hair is RM and he is the leader and main rapper. :) There is a starting point for you. 🙂 I highly recommend Taylor's guide to BTS, The Bangtan 7.
The song is based on the quote "an artist dies twice", their first death is when they have to give up their art (be it singing, dancing, making music, painting, etc).
BTS ( 3 rappers + 4 vocalists) is the biggest group in the world. They were the biggest artist named by the IFPI in 2020 and 2021 and last year number 2. They are also groundbreaking. (BTS can sell out stadiums in pre-sales for multiple days) BTS are very much an outlier: a once-in-a-liftime-artist. I'm surprisingly not joking or exagerting. They create ca. 0,5% of their countries GDP (5 Billion USD). If you want to know about K-pop try: Kpop history in 20 minutes by DKDKTV BTS vs K-pop by bby gang mag (his channel is actually very good and helps with a lot of background; this vid has a good seggment about what K-pop actually is) BTS: More than K-pop by bby gang mag and if you have time "The Rise of Bangtan" which is really long but not only has BTS history but a lot of context for example about the Industry - things you don't usually see or notice (the Bonus is also quiet funny) Taylor Mari's Bangtan 7 is also not bad and you get some information about them as Individuals, about the group and the fans. Black Swan is about the death of passion. Their fear to loose their passion for their craft. Shadows play a big role in the MV because we are on "The Map of the Soul" which discusses Carl Jung's psycholgy. We are talking about the "shadow", the unconscious. This is their fear as artists, their shadow. And yes this is connected to the ballett "Swan Lake" and the movie "Black Swan". BTS makes concept albums - a line from their first drop till now. They are very involved with their art direction/music creation. Genre is actually quiet unimportant and is always a surprise. Thank you for giving them a chance! You nice! Keep going! 💜
Please don't assume a group with a decade of highly diverse output defined by messaging and operating in multiple genres somehow is putting out something lesser because it is not the same bright Americanized pablum BTS had recently made Western bank on. This song had a multilayered meaning approaching a moment when a life-path artistic commitment suddenly loses its drive leaving the person experiencing the new inertia questioning whether going on is even viable or rewarding. The term black swan literally refers to a sudden, unexpected event which often comes with catastrophic consequences. This track was a piece of applied Jungian psychology expressing an autobiographical moment when BTS members felt the need to express in new ways beyond what had led to their rise. BTS will give you things that other K Pop groups won't, so appreciating BTS means approaching them not from a box of K Pop assumptions. Most tracks are best understood by trying to figure out what they are attempting to communicate on lyrical, visual and musical levels as opposed to focusing on whether they are bright and cheery.
I’m sure other people have recommended it but please watch Taylor’s guide to BTS I believe it’s Taylor Marie ❤ it is an incredibly put together in depth introduction to all the members 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 and the one that you liked his hair was RM which is the leader of the group. The one that was doing all the dancing is Jimin who has a background in contemporary dance ❤ looking forward to your journey into BTS
Omggg when he said Black Swan didn’t represent them like Bitter or Dynamite, alittle part of my Bangtan heart DIED. I got sooo dizzy. Lord have mercy 😩😩😩😩. Set BTS freeeee lol. Can’t wait to see his journey down the rabbit whole
Omggg, I was so excited when I see this video❤❤ Black swan is such a genius choice to react to. bts have more than 300+ songs such as pop, rap, hiphop, edm, latin pop and many more... so please feel free to tell us your taste in music so we can recommend a song for you !
from what I learned about BTS so far from comments, I have a LONG way to go, I look forward to hearing the various genres they touch and have no preference on their music! Thank you!
This song is about losing or the fear of losing your passion or the ability to do the thing you love most in life. In their case it would be music. You are right there are a number of good guides mostly done by ARMYs. A very good one to start with so that you get to know each individual member and where they came from and how they came to be part of the group is An Introduction to BTS: The Bangtan 7 by Taylor. I'm looking forward to your reaction to that.
BTS explores so many different genres. 'Butter' and 'Dynamite' are the most commercial/popularized, but that's *FAR* from the only kind of music they make. It's what makes them different from the rest of the Kpop industry - some other groups tend to stick to a specific sound in all their albums which is fine, but can be boring (but subjective to your taste). I find it interesting you don't find Black Swan to be good cause it's 1 of 2 songs that *really* made me interested in their discography. I found it so unique, different, and beautiful :>> I respect you for being honest about your tastes though! You might not like everything from their discography but it's fun to explore them since they do so many different genres.
also 'Butter' and 'Dynamite' i think have the least contribution from the members in terms of sound? they contributed to the lyrics but most of the sound and beats were made by others. If that upbeat music is more to your taste, they do have some more songs like that but you might find that you'll like girl groups like 'Twice' more for that very kpop-pop upbeat sound.
I apologize if I came across as not liking the song, I think the darker tone set me back, since I expected vibrant, happy go lucky, and "pop" from the group. I will have to make sure I don't listen to them with preconceived notions based on a few songs that were mainstream! Thank you for your comments!
@@chillbydesign No problem! I apologize if my message reads as too strong. And don't get me wrong, it's totally fine to prefer different things. Other than Twice since they're a girl group, Seventeen is another boy group I recommend you to listen to for the vibrant "pop" type of style. They're one of the best boy groups who make & perform that kind of music.
BTS is their own genre and are not really KPop. They have transcended the genre. So I am sure everyone will fill you in on the other stuff. Black Swan is based on the ballet Swan Lake about a white/good swan and a black/evil swan. It most modern productions, the role is played by the same dancer. It signifies the struggle within oneself between light and dark. They did a whole series about the shadow self. Based on works by Jung and the novel Daemian by Hermann Hesse. It's hard for new people to understand the depth of this song just on one listen. Once you know more about them, go back and listen again. It's about the fear of losing your passion. Most people are not used to the depth of meaning and poetry these guys have. Oh, and always watch the MVs until the end. They originally were a Hip Hop group(still are) and they span all the genres. If you tell ARMY what you like, they guide you. I think you should watch ON Kinetic Manifesto Film Come Prima and Mic Drop next. What you have seen was made specifically for US audiences. Enjoy the rabbit hole.😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🫰🏻
I am getting this same response from quite a few fans and look forward to molding my understanding of the group better after a guide or two and more music! thank you for your comments and I have added the songs you suggested to the list! I am glad I didn't hit the pause button at the end like I originally planned, so I could see the snippet of the shadow disappearing, it added more intrigue I will have to think about!
This is the most recent guide to BTS by Taylor ruclips.net/video/huV_yIdxZPY/видео.html The english songs you mention are probably not the best representation of BTS they are way more diverse than that.
uh oh...your first glance down the rabbit hole! what are your favorite kinds of music/artists/songs? i'm sure there is something in the BTS catalog that would hook you real good. impressed you could recall taehyung AND pronounce it! took me a while to remember his real name. also, someone else mentioned in the comments and i wanted to echo it - there are some ARMY that come off as...less than polite when reactors don't get details 100% correct, compare them to other kpop groups, "dislike" a song (as in not praise it to their liking). just don't feel put off by them! they *always* manage to show up somewhere down the line. most of us prefer honesty than fake praise.
This song is about the feeling of death they would get if you stopped loving the thing they love most which is creating music and dance. BTS don't have a single style they delve into Hip Hop, R&B, EDM, rap, ballards, latin pop and more. Butter and Dynamite are actually not so common pop songs that they do. The best guide would be Taylor's Guide to BTS.
Butter, Dynamite an Permission to Dance all 3 is in English was made during pandemic to cheer fans up and the made the dance easy. Bts songs is the beat, the lyrics, the say its ok to loose, Bts rappers have there own Mixtape and the vocalist have there own songs
Thank you for reacting and giving BTS a listen!💜 I would highly recommend 2021 BTS FESTA ROOM LIVE- a wonderful sample of their music! The Taylor Guide is a must. My personal popular favorites are the song Fire and the song Dope. Other songs that I think are hidden gems are, HOME, STAY GOLD, I'M FINE, ANPANMAN and GO GO. Enjoy!
Black Swan represents BTS in a way they are showing the lack of inspiration for an artist. It is deep. Your main reaction was ‘it is not a bad song’. This song has changed lives. Hope you find one you appreciate. 😊
I agree, to those who understand the concept it is deep. For someone like me who has just dived in, I am still going to struggle with the concept unless it is explained. But I appreciate all the feedback, both positive and negative! I look forward to learning more about this group!
As many mentioned bts doesn't really have a genre, but they do have a particular style. Of course not all of the songs, but there are songs that you listen to and immediately recognise bts' style, like noone else could sang that. It's songs like Dope, Baepsae, Fire, Dis-ease, Run BTS, Dimple, Anpanman. I will personally recommend to react to Dope next 👍
Hi! Thank you for listening to BTS! I am going to subscribe because I am very interested in seeing your reaction to the information about the individual members. Many have suggested the best source as Taylor's Guide to the Members....I agree. I enjoyed hearing your insight into Black Swan and also look forward to you seeing just how diverse their music is. In some instances, the English lyrics don't clearly explain the meaning of a song, but an explanation (from a Korean perspective) can be found on channel DKDKTV....when one is available, I'd suggest doing the MV and explanation back to back. We love seeing a reactor understand the true meaning of a song....BTS are brilliant songwriters. ARMY grandma (66)
This makes me so happy! I'm gonna leave you some links. When I introduce people to BTS, I tend to lead with 3 videos; the music video for 'Black Swan' which you just watched. Then, the guide to the BTS members by Taylor; ruclips.net/video/huV_yIdxZPY/видео.html It's a lot of fun, incredibly well done. It gives you an idea what each member brings to the table, both as an artist and a member of the group. And it tells you who BTS are as a group, where they came from. Please turn your subtitles OFF for this video! And finally I always link their 'tiny desk concert'; ruclips.net/video/gFYAXsa7pe8/видео.html it'll give you a whole new appreciation for their voices. Plus, they're not running around like they usually do, so you'll get a bit more time to link their voices to their faces. ;) I really hope you'll continue down the BTS rabbit hole. It's a lot of fun, I promise. ;) I subscribed, can't wait to see more. Please let us know if you need help finding your way, there's a lot of content out there. The BTS ARMY (their fanbase) is happy to help. We welcome anyone who's willing to explore with an open mind. :)
Very kind of you to give me so much info, links, and a sub! I appreciate the fan base, whether they are brutal in the comments or kind, no matter what it is their passion!
This was a really interesting reaction to me. I am very curious about watching your future reactions to this incredible group and their wonderful discography. To be brutally honest, while I don’t hate Dynamite, it is literally the song I am most likely to skip in my BTS playlists! (I love their performances of it though).
This song is about the fear of one day no longer loving music. How sometimes it feels like that, but not loving it would be a first death worse than real death. All based of a quote by a famous ballerina. The first half is quite sad and depressing but in the end it’s about delving deep and finding their passion again and promising never to let the outside world try and steal the joy of music from them again.
The way you describe the story is very interesting to me! So in the beginning when they are wearing white, they don't feel the passion. After they change to black outfits, they find their passion again? I like that! Opposite of what we're taught in the Western world about black and white color representations! TY for your insight!
That is interesting to hear, since I only ever heard those two songs played on the radio. in America! I can't wait to dive deeper into BTS and Kpop to learn what the "core" is!
@@chillbydesign Yeah don't even get us started on US Radio gate-keeping LOL. Those two songs were written to cheer everyone up during the pandemic and were primarily written but composers/writers outside of BTS and their in-house production team. MOST of their discography (over 300 songs) has BTS member(s) fingerprints all over them as writer/composer/producer and/or instrumentalist. That is another reason they aren't your "typical k-pop group" and why we respect and appreciate them so much. Hope you check out more. I really personally hope you hold off on Butter and Dynamite just because it is probably the "least" like their core although they slay them, especially the live performances. Thanks for reacting!
If you start with BTS, you will have no room for anyone else! Now don't get me wrong... I listen to other Korean artists as well, i listen to English, Italian, Greek, French and Latin music, i am also crazy about Beethoven and I have been to live orchestra presentation of the most famous classical pieces from 17th, 18th and 19th century... I am not just a BTS Army... But that being said, i am simply afraid that if you start K-pop music first with BTS, and you really pay attention to their art, their personalities and their shows.... Hum, you won't have room for anybody else in a long long time... I know that because i am also a new ARMY and since I have known them, i can only regret not having get to known them before. Anyway, have fun. I purple you💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I love the Taylor´s guide to BTS. It gives you a pretty good idea of them, their background and their many talents. They have hundreds of songs so it is hard to pick cause they are all really good. From rap to por, all the genres in between and more. Mic Drop, Not Today, Idol, Blood, sweat and tears, Fire, DNA, Boys with love, etc. are some hits but they have spectacular songs from the 7 together, solo songs, rap line, vocal line and solo projects. mixtapes and solo albums.
purple hair - World wide Handsome. V - black curly hair - shooted from the bottom - most handsome man 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, number 2 in 2019. BTS are covering different genres: hip hop, ballades, rnb... depends on what genre do you like, we will recommend you someth
As other people have said, Butter and Dynamite aren't exactly their usual style lol. Tbh I feel like Butter and Dynamite was geared towards helping everyone have fun during the whole pandemic situation. And I think the lyrics were dumbed down for an english-speaking audience (to be blunt hahaha). Their usual music, imo, is more artistic and poetic. But that's probably because it's easier for them to convey poetic things in their native language.
Loved your reaction!! I also saw you saying in the comments about the language barrier. If you find it hard to understand some lyrics due to the barrier, you can find explanation video's for a lot of their song on YT. There they explain the lyricism and meaning of the songs. Looking forward to more BTS reactions!! 💜
There is a different between songs in English and the Korean or the Japanese for you to start with black swan is to early to understand you need to go back to the beginning of the band and to each song until you get into the BU stage then you will understand the black swan Its a long long journey if you are willing to take it
Not cumberbums but corsets, and two of them were wearing them. But you are correct that the one who had the showcase dancing and sprouted wings (Jimin) is featured heavily because of his skill in contemporary dance, as that was the style of the choreography. The corsets represent constriction and pressure, which is what the song is about - feeling artistically pressured to the point of burnout and losing your love for your art. The song is about that fear, represented by shadows. It is built around the quote by dancer Martha Graham “ a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” A black swan is a metaphor that means a sudden, unexpected event, often with dire consequences. There is a lot of meaning in all the visuals like the setting, the mirrors, the wardrobe, etc, as well as many multi layered lyrics. That’s typical for them.
Yes - you notice that in the video the shadows are large and animated, moving independently of the people apparently casting them. At the end the shadow shrinks away because they have the fear under control. They mention this “shadow” as a representation of fear in some of their other songs too, like ON. Black Swan and ON are from Map of the Soul 7 album, which is based on Jungian psychological theory and Jung‘s book Map of the Soul. So there are numerous references and themes to psychological concepts from the book.
RUclips is buggin’ right now. Sorry. Attempting this again ~ Others things to note in this video just for example: They chose barefoot contemporary dancing, to show themselves as more vulnerable and open. The suits start as white with black accents and by the end are fully black as the shadows grow darker and more overwhelming. The initial shots are from a distance with spotlighting, so lots of shadow and showing a large negative space above them, so they are swimming in a sea of shadows which are also pressing down on them from above. This echoes the lyrics later that reference being on the ocean floor (in the dark and under pressure.) There is lots more but you get the idea. A lot of their videos have this level of cinematography and attention to details and hidden meaning.
Try ON: Kinetic Manifesto. Just watch it once w no subtitles to enjoy the visual and audio art of it, then a second round with the the subtitles to get that they are saying. It really is a manifesto about their terrifying rise to greatness and determination to keep going even when it’s scary. But if you try to read and watch you’ll miss stuff.

Please react to THE GUIDE OF BTS THE BANGTAN SEVEN, BTS makes many genres of music, they don't pigeonhole themselves in just one thing, plus much of their discography has a fictional history that goes throughout the albums Butter and dynamite do not represent the BTS discography at all, it is really sad for me because I know that many people think that all their music is like this, when in reality their music is full of deep songs with very meaningful lyrics, of course that they have other pop songs but if you are looking for something like BUTTER OR DYNAMITE BTS it is not like that
Guide to Bts: Bangtan 7 by Taylor - members focused, less career The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Goes On 2022 by rice squad - career focused, less about d members THIS IS BTS THIS IS BTS ARMY NOBODIES TO LEGENDS - all 3 from XCeleste. I believe all these 5 videos are a must. Ps: they dont have a specific song that represents them. Their discography is very diverse in genres. Once u dwell onto their lyricism, dynamite & butter may not be the 'staple' song. Indeed dyna & butter are both massive, most armys will always choose other songs as their favorite bts song.u can always expect important lyricism and artistry to their craft.
Actually Black Swan represents them better than Dynamite and Butter. Dynamite and Butter are more like the minority of their discography.
agreed. i like the english songs but i feel like the english songs aren't that representative of bts musics
If those songs don't represent them then they shouldn't have released them. Dynamite and butter perfectly represent them and there's nothing wrong with that. Stop undermining their songs.
@@anabhousen7159 I said "represents them BETTER than" not "They DON'T represent them".
I look forward to hearing all sides of BTS eventually! And I am glad to know the leader stood out so prominently in my head! He had PRESENCE.
Actually the one with purple hair is Jimin who did most of the solo dancing. RM is the leader and his hair was blonde here. He’s the one that made you comment” I love his hair. His hair is amazing.” Don’t go by hair colours. They change the colour constantly.
Purple hair is Jimin who is a contemporary dancer
RM (the leader) is blonde in this video
They have officially implemented international or global age at the beginning of this year.
@@safehaven2918 Jimin had blue hair here, RM had the purple one
Conceptually Black Swan speaks on their fear of loosing their passion for their art. There is a quote that kind of inspires the whole song "A dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing. The first death is the more painful."
You'll learn pretty quickly how diverse they are in genre and concept.
@@chillbydesign glad to help!
@chillbydesign Also, one of the members, Jimin, is actually trained in contemporary dance. He's the one with purple hair here. He was top of his class in his performing arts high school.
Bora Nabi as in Purple Butterfly? Awww... 🦋💜
@rositasoe6379 yup 😊
Hey!! Good reaction
There is a guide made by Taylor The bangtan 7
They said that this song is about the fear of loosing the passion of their art
This quote by Martha Graham said “a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.”
But each person can give the meaning that they want to the song
BTS is not your typical K-Pop. They are a genre all their own, The dancer was Jimin just one of the lead dancers yet they all dance in all the videos and concerts which makes them unique since they sing rap and dance live. Look forward to seeing you fall into the rabbit hole of BTS, Army (their fanbase) will gladly guide you through your journey
Kpop is an industry not a genre
Jimin is a main dancer...
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you'll continue to support BTS in all that they do.💜
Truly heartfelt words written by someone who sees them in a different light! Thank you for your comments!
You gave me chillbumps! I think you stated perfectly what our boys are, thank you! Borahae!! 💜

Well said ARMY 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I have added both of those songs to the list for future reactions! Thank you for pointing me in a direction!
This touches on very real scenarios in life
Cypher Part 3: No music video. you can do the colour coded lyric videos or a live. This is a sample of what the rap line can do
House of Cards (Live): This is a sample of what the vocal line can do.

Here are some reasons why you should stan BTS:
Their music: BTS produces high-quality music with meaningful lyrics that tackle a range of topics such as mental health, self-love, social issues, and more.
BTS is not the typical “k-pop” sound, they really have their own sound. They are the best of the best.
Please listen to the armys in the comments suggesting guides, we are experts in this field Lol.❤ It can be hard to navigate their history without help because there is so much of it. They are good-hearted and talented guys that have changed so many people’s lives beyond music. Enjoy the journey!

I have added "ON" and "Home"@GCS to the list! Thank you for letting me know there is no MV of them!
Each member has solo performances, they are amazing
I have the guide on the list, and will get to it soon!
Such a varied list! I didn't realize they had THREE rappers in the group! I will add these for reference! Thank you!
😂 right "BTS poper" right here
Yes I agree a lot 💜🙏
Yes, I like BTS, not KPop🤣🤣
Same here, only like BTS not k-pop.
you can say you only like BTS and not /other/ kpop groups. but bts ARE kpop so you would be just objectively wrong
(they are taking a brake right now because they all have to go and will get back together in 2025)
*Min Yoongi (SUGA): Born in 93' he is also a main rapper, song writer and producer.
(Not all teenage girls like many people think)
-Visually, their videos are master pieces.
Bbapsae, UGH, Idol, Spring day, blood sweat and tears (you'll need the explanation video afterwards)
Fake Love, Blood Sweat and tears (eye candy videos - i mean cinematography and symbolism, not the cute guys - you will need explanation video for Blood Sweat and Tears)
Their live presesntationss are amazing, and their BBMAS, AMAs, and Grammy's performances are really cool.... but nothing compared to the Asian Award Shows.... mmm... think about your favorite concert, mixed with cirque du solei, in a world cup stadium... and maybe you'll have an idea of what I'm talking about 😅. They went all out for that award show, making it like a journey through their discography)
Live presentations, MVs and dance practices will give you diferent perspectives and always something new to the song.
✌🏻💜
BTS isn't "butter" and "dynamite" they are so much more than that. You will learn that over time. Thank you for your reaction.
This is one of their best songs. The one in the cummerbund was JIMIN. He was a contemporary major in school and that reflects in his dancing as well.
--> here are some points of what people can expect from BTS and what they can be excited about when getting into the group:
Unique blend of music: BTS combines various genres, including hip hop, R&B, pop, and rock, to create their signature sound.
Engaging performances: BTS's live performances are known for their high-energy choreography, stunning visuals, and charismatic stage presence.
Deep and meaningful lyrics: Many of BTS's songs tackle important social and personal issues, such as mental health, self-love, and societal pressures.
Creative music videos: BTS's music videos are often visually stunning and incorporate complex storylines, symbolism, and artistic elements.
Personalities and interactions: BTS members are known for their unique personalities, sense of humor, and close bond with each other, which is often showcased through their variety show appearances and behind-the-scenes content.
Global impact: BTS has a massive worldwide fanbase, known as the "ARMY," and has broken numerous records in the music industry, including being the first K-pop group to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Constant evolution and growth: BTS is always pushing themselves creatively and exploring new musical territories, ensuring that their music and performances never become stale.
Overall, people can expect to be captivated by BTS's music, performances, and personalities, and can be excited about joining a global community of passionate fans who share their love for the group. 💜🙏
Oh and Jimin and JK are wearing corsets not cumberbuns😉

Enjoy it!
Black Swan is about an artist's fear of losing their passion for making their art.
BTS is versatile, they never make one song alike and always bring new ideas and messages. Don't get caught up in thinking "this is the kind of music BTS would make" it doesn't exist for them. Not because it lacks style, but because each message, each feeling they want to convey, demands a different niche in music. They know how to work their concepts very well
There is no song that represents BTS. Everyone is different and everyone is important. Welcome to the adventure of a lifetime of getting to know BTS💜
There songs are deep everything in their mv are there for a reason
@@javinnelaureen is it wrong that I still love their English songs? 😅
I highly recommend Taylor's guide to BTS, The Bangtan 7.
(BTS can sell out stadiums in pre-sales for multiple days)
BTS are very much an outlier: a once-in-a-liftime-artist. I'm surprisingly not joking or exagerting.
They create ca. 0,5% of their countries GDP (5 Billion USD).
If you want to know about K-pop try:
Kpop history in 20 minutes by DKDKTV
BTS vs K-pop by bby gang mag (his channel is actually very good and helps with a lot of background; this vid has a good seggment about what K-pop actually is)
BTS: More than K-pop by bby gang mag
and if you have time
"The Rise of Bangtan"
which is really long but not only has BTS history but a lot of context for example about the Industry - things you don't usually see or notice (the Bonus is also quiet funny)
Taylor Mari's Bangtan 7 is also not bad and you get some information about them as Individuals, about the group and the fans.
Great song to start with...Black Swan is a masterpiece ✨️ 💜
BTS explores so many different genres. 'Butter' and 'Dynamite' are the most commercial/popularized, but that's *FAR* from the only kind of music they make. It's what makes them different from the rest of the Kpop industry - some other groups tend to stick to a specific sound in all their albums which is fine, but can be boring (but subjective to your taste). I find it interesting you don't find Black Swan to be good cause it's 1 of 2 songs that *really* made me interested in their discography. I found it so unique, different, and beautiful :>>
I respect you for being honest about your tastes though!
They're one of the best boy groups who make & perform that kind of music.
bts honestly is a whooooole different genre of their own
BTS is their own genre and are not really KPop.
So respectful, so open, so honest! Instant subscription!
I appreciate that! I think the group and fan base deserve respect! I am not going to lie about how I feel about a song, though.
uh oh...your first glance down the rabbit hole!
what are your favorite kinds of music/artists/songs? i'm sure there is something in the BTS catalog that would hook you real good. impressed you could recall taehyung AND pronounce it! took me a while to remember his real name.
also, someone else mentioned in the comments and i wanted to echo it - there are some ARMY that come off as...less than polite when reactors don't get details 100% correct, compare them to other kpop groups, "dislike" a song (as in not praise it to their liking). just don't feel put off by them! they *always* manage to show up somewhere down the line. most of us prefer honesty than fake praise.
if you want the best BTS guide out there it would be BTS: The Bangtan 7 by Taylor
guide to bangtan 7 may22
This song is about the feeling of death they would get if you stopped loving the thing they love most which is creating music and dance.
Thank you for reacting and giving BTS a listen!💜
I would highly recommend 2021 BTS FESTA ROOM LIVE- a wonderful sample of their music!
The contemporary dance was all done by Jimin as he is specialized in contemporary dance.
"A guide to BTS members : the bangtan 7" by Taylor Mari. Its a really good video to get to know them.
Two guys in the leather "cumberbund" - The one dancing was Jimin. The one who is often in the center singing is Jungkook.
'Jimin effect' strikes yet again! Thank you for the reaction and welcome into the rabbit hole ;)
And finally I always link their 'tiny desk concert'; ruclips.net/video/gFYAXsa7pe8/видео.html
it'll give you a whole new appreciation for their voices. Plus, they're not running around like they usually do, so you'll get a bit more time to link their voices to their faces. ;)
I really hope you'll continue down the BTS rabbit hole.
Butter and Dinamite were made to comfort and encourage people the pandemics. That's why they sound so light and happy.
I my opinion, butter and dynamight are the farthest away from the core of bts 😅
Not to say its not a bts song, but it felt more like a cheer up post covid song than the songs that actually made me a dedicated fan
I purple you💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7
If you want to get to know the group and the members better there is ‘A Guide to BTS the Bangtan 7’ made by Taylor.
I love the Taylor´s guide to BTS. It gives you a pretty good idea of them, their background and their many talents. They have hundreds of songs so it is hard to pick cause they are all really good. From rap to por, all the genres in between and more. Mic Drop, Not Today, Idol, Blood, sweat and tears, Fire, DNA, Boys with love, etc. are some hits but they have spectacular songs from the 7 together, solo songs, rap line, vocal line and solo projects. mixtapes and solo albums.
can you please describe what kind of music 'por' is? I've never heard of it before!
@@chillbydesign sorry, I meant pop
K-pop is not a genre, it’s the industry. BTS has songs in very music genre and they are beyond the K-pop industry years ago
purple hair - World wide Handsome.
V - black curly hair - shooted from the bottom - most handsome man 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, number 2 in 2019. BTS are covering different genres: hip hop, ballades, rnb... depends on what genre do you like, we will recommend you someth
they are some handsome men!
Wellcome in purple world.... Enjoy your journey
I hear "feelin' me now" too.
For a guide, I'd strongly recommend the Bangtan 7 by Taylor. It is the best, most up to date guide for each member.
Can't wait to see ur nexte bts reaction ^^
BTS live tiny desk concert! It’s really good for new people.
on my list! Thanks for the suggestion!
Side note the explanations are not done by BTS, as it may sound like from my comment. The explanation video's are done by a native korean speaker.
Bts are the best💜
There is a different between songs in English and the Korean or the Japanese for you to start with black swan is to early to understand you need to go back to the beginning of the band and to each song until you get into the BU stage then you will understand the black swan
Its a long long journey if you are willing to take it
Not cumberbums but corsets, and two of them were wearing them.
It is built around the quote by dancer Martha Graham “ a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.”
A black swan is a metaphor that means a sudden, unexpected event, often with dire consequences. There is a lot of meaning in all the visuals like the setting, the mirrors, the wardrobe, etc, as well as many multi layered lyrics. That’s typical for them.
Others have described the concept in detail, but I missed the fact shadows represented their fear. Thank you!
Sorry. Attempting this again ~
Others things to note in this video just for example:
They chose barefoot contemporary dancing, to show themselves as more vulnerable and open. The suits start as white with black accents and by the end are fully black as the shadows grow darker and more overwhelming. The initial shots are from a distance with spotlighting, so lots of shadow and showing a large negative space above them, so they are swimming in a sea of shadows which are also pressing down on them from above. This echoes the lyrics later that reference being on the ocean floor (in the dark and under pressure.)
There is lots more but you get the idea.
But if you try to read and watch you’ll miss stuff.
thank you for your support and I look forward to learning more about them!
