We used these in Afghanistan. In our remote location they were invaluable in keeping the scorpions and camel spiders at bay while we got a well needed night of rest. I was so impressed with them that I brought a couple back with me that my daughter and I use for camping.
Was given one for free when I was deployed to Africa 2yrs ago. Love the quick setup. Wish I would’ve had this earlier in my career. Just need the tarp that goes with it. In the meantime, I’ll be using it with a poncho for a lightweight shelter setup.
Nice, I recently purchased the Snugpak Jungle Hammock. I has a built in bug net and there is a 10x10 silny tarp that is part of that system for a little more. Very lightweight and affordable compared to other systems. The system you show here is great because it is not tree dependent but if you wanted to get off the ground in the bush the hammock would be a good option.
My DD travel hammock comes with an incorporated net to keep the skeeters and no see ems out. It also doubles as a bivy if you want to stake it to the ground instead of hanging it from a tree. With all the copperheads and cottonmouth in my area of the South, I usually opt for hanging it from the trees.
I LOVE this! I can put my larger tarp over it, tie the tarp off at proper angles, and I'll keep the OR rain off of me. I also have a 5 X 8 reflective tarp. I can use that on one side of this thing with the campfire on the other side. The heat is reflected back into the IBNS, so BOTH sides get heated. I learned wet & cold weather survival because hypothermia is a BIG issue in Oregon.
You got that right with the mosquitoes here in Texas, you'd be lucky if they don't pick you and your tent up. LOL Those are great. They are also sold under the name Iguana tent. I have a couple that our local surplus store sold to me for cheap cheap too. Here in Texas at this time of year we also have the "love bugs" and they can drive ya nuts if you don't stay covered from them.
Great product! My problem with tents restricted vision and movement this also has restricted movement but at lest you can scan your surroundings and shoot at what you need too. Combo with a tarp for over head rain shelter would be excellent.
That's nice. You can do essentially the same thing though with a hammock with built in mesh netting as well. If there are no trees, you can set it up on the ground in a similar fashion like a bivy, although it would require a little set up time. The bottom wouldn't be waterproof though. Would have to rig something up if rain was a possibility. Hammocks as described can be had for a less expensive price than even the used version you show. Although the easy set-up of the catoma is sure nice.
Alternatives? Poncho and poncho liner? Maybe if you have a ruck then sit it up and use it to help keep your poncho up. 2 Poncho's is ideal. That combined with the foam pad and your GTG. The pad to help regulate body heat. The foam one is heavier but I don't like the air ones, they eventually pop/leak/disform ect.. That looks like a nice alternative to a single tent because it's lighter and more compact. Very cool! I would ditch the cott. Those are just too heavy. This is luxury in the field
I just use a regular Summer season tent. Keeps the bugs and rain out, Not as airy and a little heavy of course, but for thirty bucks it sleeps two comfortably.
I like your video and would really like a couple of these, but the link you give shows a cost of 114.00 and none in stock. The price goes way up from there. Is there another outlet for this sleep system? or am I just missing something?
I have a few nets of different types but nothing that neat. Yes, bugs biting you will drive you insane in a short time that is for sure. Someone at work had a discussion about survival. We both agreed that we would rather face a tiger or leopard than a swam of biting insect. At least with a big cat, you can get a rock or...something and fight. What can you do with flying insects except suffer, or have one of these?
I'm 6'3" tall and fit in mine well enough. The floor dimensions aren't a good indicator of size as the bugnet is tapered at both ends, robbing some of the actual interior length for you to fit. That is of course, unless your feet are 3-4" long and your head is half the normal size. With my head 2 inches from the net, my toes touch the bottom net. If you don't mind that, it's not going to be an issue. Personally, I don't like my feet being restricted as I will get calf cramps sleeping.
@SouthernPrepper1- Do you have "Trick or Treaters" on Halloween? Do you take any precautions about security on your property with unknown visitors on Halloween ? Something I have been thinking about for my own property.
Not a bad addition. I have a few bivys and GI mosquito nets but you're right.... it is too HOT for a bivy 11 months out of twelve in FL. Found some on ebay for $49 brand new.
When I was at Ft. Lewis in 1999, I was laughed at when I bought a mosquito headnet at the MCSS...until they spent the night out there in the woods with mosquitos munching on'em all night! LOL! That and a pair of gloves and bug juice, and I was good to hook!
I keep some bug repellent spray in my bag, but obviously need to put more thought into this. Bugs haven't been bad around here, but that may not always be the case.
this looks like it would be great for keeping watch when you're bugging out or on an FTX; with a little bit of camouflaging your sentry can keep watch without revealing his position by constantly slapping at bugs.
southernprepper1 any idea why videos will not play on youngguns site or am I the only one having problems with it lol? love your channel btw please keep up the good work.
I have two of the old surplus bug nets, their pretty large but not real heavy. I have been bug bait a few times so yeah, These are the cheese on the pizza...
Bug gear is important stuff and too many survival bags miss it. Chemical sprays are great but have limited application, it's much better to have proper body coverings relevant to your area.
Great protection until you have to get out of it. Then you will still need repellent. Not worrying about snakes and spiders could certainly make for a better nights sleep. Thanks for sharing.
Like what you said about the big mosquito's in Texas. I live in Arkansas and we've always joked with the yankee relatives who came to visit, that the mosquito is our State Bird because they are so big. It's a good laugh, but those things will sure tare you up!
They are. I did get nailed by one once while cleaning a wild tiger pen. She was just playing, which is why I did not lose any body parts, but running into me at speed did knock me down like a truck. I do not actually remember hitting the ground so the impact must had knocked me unconscious for a second. Still though, better than 1000 stinging insects. At least the tiger will finish me fast.
Check out the UST BASE Bug Tent. It only covers the top of you, so it's really only meant to keep out Mosquitoes and No See Ums and stuff like that, but it's lightweight, portable, and cheap (only ~$30!). It's what I use when it's warm out and I'm sleeping on the ground in a wool blanket instead of my hammock. Great option.
i paid a bit for tm , i prefer the warbonnet blackbird hammock witha tarp and pad , with slpg bag, it takes me al of 12 min to set and remove camp . well made , lt weight , and comes in multicam on the hammock and one tarp , bcusa has different size , dif camo tarps , atacs fg i like as well . and if you want light weight , and dont mind spending the money , they have cuban fiber tarps too .
Did you tell the mosquitos to fly near the camera during this video? Subtle marketing tactic? Haha. I bet the cot connecting bits can also be used to keep a poncho attached to make it a portable, 1 man rainproof tent.
Smoke! For now, lots of smoke until I buy what you are showing here. Smoke does a good job of keeping the bugs away but as you know, its not perfect. A "smoke bath" seems to work but its no way to live for a long time.
If you google "west nile virus map" you will find a web page from the CDC with a county by county breakdown of the areas of the US that have reported one or more cases of west nile virus detection. Every state has it to some extent.
great gear, BUT their life time warranty is NOT for real. My fiberglass rods began to de-lamiate and stabbed me several time. sent emails. called. no reply after a month. using the rain fly ploes and 550 cord to support the net. looking for something else.
@SouthernPrepper1 - I'm in Spartanburg, SC at the moment. How can I get ahold of the surplus guy that you referenced? Is there a way you could PM me on my youtube account? (I'm still figuring this thing out) Thanks!
It's just the price you gotta pay for security... That would make a funny spoof video tho... Some little kids coming up to the door dressed like ghosts and what not and out of no where SP1 pops out in ghille... The kids run and you say wait you forgot your snickers... LOL...
i hate sleeping on ground! i will search till i find at least one tree to set up my hammock and a pole! but this would be great for a back up! even for INSIDE USE when no power and its hot you open all doors windows to get air you will let some bloody bugs in for sure!
Cool product might have to look at buying two or three of these. I have just got to ask who are the five or ten dopes who routinely thumbs down SP1's videos? Seriously, you are thumbs downing some camping gear?
They do more than keep bugs out. A bear attempted to attack me through mine. Everytime he clawed at the tent, the tent was so badass it knocked his ass across the woods.
We used these in Afghanistan. In our remote location they were invaluable in keeping the scorpions and camel spiders at bay while we got a well needed night of rest. I was so impressed with them that I brought a couple back with me that my daughter and I use for camping.
Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Bug out". LOL.
Was given one for free when I was deployed to Africa 2yrs ago. Love the quick setup. Wish I would’ve had this earlier in my career. Just need the tarp that goes with it. In the meantime, I’ll be using it with a poncho for a lightweight shelter setup.
Just bought one to test it out. It seems perfect for the desert where I'm at. I like that its rapid setup and fairly light.
Nice, I recently purchased the Snugpak Jungle Hammock. I has a built in bug net and there is a 10x10 silny tarp that is part of that system for a little more. I did not know of that problem. I will check it out.
Thank you sir for all the intel you provide your viewers with, god bless, never retreat, never surrender!
I LOVE this!

I learned wet & cold weather survival because hypothermia is a BIG issue in Oregon.
I never have any trick or treaters. Private road and fence and dogs and locked gate I guess I need to be alittle friendlier.
Down in the south sometimes it so hot you dont want anything on you.
You got that right with the mosquitoes here in Texas, you'd be lucky if they don't pick you and your tent up. LOL Those are great. They are also sold under the name Iguana tent. Nice Jeep in the background!
Great product! My problem with tents restricted vision and movement this also has restricted movement but at lest you can scan your surroundings and shoot at what you need too.
Combo with a tarp for over head rain shelter would be excellent.
Very nice, thank you for sharing with us all.
Blessings to you and yours !

This is great we have west Nile down here too I read a report for a mosquito trap tested positive for west Nile in my area

I love that, I'll have to pick up a couple in the future. I live in Oklahoma, too many bugs around here, be great for camping and compact.
Rain fly system is available from Catoma. I use this set up year round with my MSS.
I just use a regular Summer season tent. Keeps the bugs and rain out, Not as airy and a little heavy of course, but for thirty bucks it sleeps two comfortably.
How long is this? Will it fit a big, muscled, six foot tall man with wide shoulders?
Not difficult but it takes a few minutes to figure it out and after that it takes about 30 seconds to fold back up very fast after you figure it out.
Very nice! I think I'm going to pick some up! Thanks for showing!
I like your video and would really like a couple of these, but the link you give shows a cost of 114.00 and none in stock. The price goes way up from there. Is there another outlet for this sleep system? or am I just missing something?

I want to see more of that jeep in the background. looks pretty cool.
@SouthernPrepper1- Do you have "Trick or Treaters" on Halloween? Do you take any precautions about security on your property with unknown visitors on Halloween ? Something I have been thinking about for my own property.
southernprepper1 may I suggest using. an ipod or sound recorder for these long type shots or a mic the sound is lacking.
Not a bad addition. I have a few bivys and GI mosquito nets but you're right.... it is too HOT for a bivy 11 months out of twelve in FL. Found some on ebay for $49 brand new.
Nice video. You said you bought 3 for the price of one!!! where can I find these systems for a reasonable price online??? I'm from the UK
When I was at Ft. Lewis in 1999, I was laughed at when I bought a mosquito headnet at the MCSS...until they spent the night out there in the woods with mosquitos munching on'em all night! LOL! That and a pair of gloves and bug juice, and I was good to hook!
how long is that thing? being a tall person i would love to know if i could comfortable fit in one
We used these in Africa and they work great.
I keep some bug repellent spray in my bag, but obviously need to put more thought into this. Bugs haven't been bad around here, but that may not always be the case.
I paid $35 but I get the good guy discount. Another guy sells them locally if he has any more but they are 60 or 65.
@ southernprepper1- Did you move to Texas or you just visiting?
Great tip. Thanks for all of your vids..
Sweet system. I saw them on Ebay kinda pricey but they are easy to set up and the rain fly looks great. Good review. Thanks.
great thank you, as im about the same height as you, i dont think size will be a huge issue, not something for all my regular camping trips though
this looks like it would be great for keeping watch when you're bugging out or on an FTX; with a little bit of camouflaging your sentry can keep watch without revealing his position by constantly slapping at bugs.
I include the link of the manufacturer so people can see the specification on the product. Try to find them thru a surplus dealer.
southernprepper1 any idea why videos will not play on youngguns site or am I the only one having problems with it lol? love your channel btw please keep up the good work.
ho do you fold it up?
You've always got the coolest toys!! :)
I have two of the old surplus bug nets, their pretty large but not real heavy. I have been bug bait a few times so yeah, These are the cheese on the pizza...
Bug gear is important stuff and too many survival bags miss it. Chemical sprays are great but have limited application, it's much better to have proper body coverings relevant to your area.
sp1, can you post a link to the webpage you purchased from? Can not find this item at the surplus guy.
I was hoping to get this in the mail. Its expensive but either way you roll with the punches. Atleast I got a new tent out of it
Great protection until you have to get out of it. Then you will still need repellent. Not worrying about snakes and spiders could certainly make for a better nights sleep. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet deal and a nice item to have!

You want a bottom tho because tics are the real problem in the u.s, at least up here in PA anyways
i paid a bit for tm , i prefer the warbonnet blackbird hammock witha tarp and pad , with slpg bag, it takes me al of 12 min to set and remove camp . well made , lt weight , and comes in multicam on the hammock and one tarp , bcusa has different size , dif camo tarps , atacs fg i like as well . and if you want light weight , and dont mind spending the money , they have cuban fiber tarps too .
did you buy it at the readiness sply store in nc ?
Just a visit.
You do great vids. Keep up the good work
Is it available or not please share
Nice, here in Louisiana we have to always think about how to keep mosquitoes off of us
can you make a video of that jeep
Sorry I just call the guy the surplus guy. He does not have a web page.
What did you pay?
Did you tell the mosquitos to fly near the camera during this video? Subtle marketing tactic? Haha. I bet the cot connecting bits can also be used to keep a poncho attached to make it a portable, 1 man rainproof tent.
would be nice if there was a double so you can get more gear or another person
got 2 of them at surplus store for 15 bucks each and use them year round
what about a hammock?
You can find them on Ebay for between $45-60 and the complete system EBNS for about $120-140.
Smoke! For now, lots of smoke until I buy what you are showing here. Smoke does a good job of keeping the bugs away but as you know, its not perfect. A "smoke bath" seems to work but its no way to live for a long time.

What is this weight ?
Great review!!😁🤙
I get the good guy discount from the source that buys from the government. I paid $35 each.
Nice, Thanks for sharing. Great video!
great gear, BUT their life time warranty is NOT for real. My fiberglass rods began to de-lamiate and stabbed me several time. sent emails. called. no reply after a month. using the rain fly ploes and 550 cord to support the net.
looking for something else.
uncle sams retail outlet for 60 if you can find them in stock. at that price it would be worth waiting for.
like the tents in the first Jurassic park.
I wouldn't mind seeing a video on that Jeep.
That is a must to have, I hate snakes!
Nice jeep!
Great item!
LOL...
Thanks.
i hate sleeping on ground! i will search till i find at least one tree to set up my hammock and a pole! but this would be great for a back up! even for INSIDE USE when no power and its hot you open all doors windows to get air you will let some bloody bugs in for sure!
You've got it all!!!
I wish they come in olive drab
I need to get me 2 of those. Thanks mate :)
Basically ingenious.
And citronella oil.
I use smoke. But that would definetly work better.
Cool product might have to look at buying two or three of these.
I have just got to ask who are the five or ten dopes who routinely thumbs down SP1's videos? Seriously, you are thumbs downing some camping gear?
that is cool !!!!! I like it !!!!!!!!!!
That is pretty cool.
Nice Video
I think that is more than I want to know!! LOL
you didnt tell us the Length !!
They do more than keep bugs out. A bear attempted to attack me through mine. Everytime he clawed at the tent, the tent was so badass it knocked his ass across the woods.
Is that true?
Brandon Davis yeah they’re bulletproof too actually
