    I feel your pain.... been there. In one case I beat wedges with an 8 lb sledge for about 20 minutes. During the process I made a 4" diameter glut out of a hard dead branch. I used the glut to maintain the lift I had and gain a little bit more. It also let me retrieve my felling wedges. Then moved a bit around the side towards the hinge and I tripled up my felling wedges to tip it over. It was exhausting work!

      Ya at times I'll make a glut and or a couple of wedges. at times a guy has to get creative.

    ...maybe gut the center of the hinge from the back a little to make it easier to tip?

    Would a bottle jack have worked on that?

      Yes... a 4lb axe and 12 inch wedges would have worked better than what I had with me. With my Silvey ram unit it would have be easy.
