It would make a good bass fly, as well. Some standard fly tying terminology - when you are using clumps of hair, they’re usually sized by comparing to match sticks or pencils. Putting a half hitch at each material attachment plus a tiny bit of cement is helpful. I believe I would like sparse bucktail, instead, but have had good success with similar uses of deer hair. Have you tried it with the wings put on last instead of first.? And while I tend to stick with natural colors myself, I have a study done somewhere in my files that show catfish have a preference for the color pink, believe it or not!

I made my own hair stacker by cutting the non capped end off of of an old chapstick tube... the targ et brand has nice angular corners, perfect for stacking

Well, I don't eat meat. And brute numbers. There are more bigger catfish in these waters than anything else.
How do you keep liver on a fly?
Best way is use chicken gizzards instead of livers. If you use livers, simply tying the livers on with thread is fine.
