    The Water Diviner by Ludovico Einaudi, from the movie The Water Diviner.

    Russel Crowe's directorial debut is loosely based on a book by Andrew Anastasios and Meaghan Wilson-Anastasios. Set in the aftermath of The Great War, it traces a journey to Turkey undertaken by Australian farmer Joshua Connor to locate the remains of his three sons at Gallipoli. This seemingly impossible mission has been prompted by his wife's suicide and Connor's subsequent obsession to bury his sons' remains with those of his wife. Suddenly immersed in the alien culture and chaotic politics of post-war Turkey, he sidesteps British red tape and survives sudden outbreaks of racial violence to arrive at un unexpected resolution of his quest. David Hirschfelder's score is complemented with telling contributions from Einaudi, usually in the brief reflective moments when Connor is in the company of Ayshe, his widowed landlady at the Istanbul hotel he uses as a base for his trip.

    Came here from the Synnthesia version, Jess. Nice to watch you play this also.... I just wish I could see your face as you play. I find that I love to watch the expression when someone plays the piano - it is such an emotional thing to do!! I did like how you put your right hand down in your lap in that one spot of the song.... gives some variety to the video!

    This is my favorite piano song, but I always feel like it should end at 5:27
    It already said everything it needed to say and instead of ending strong it peters out.

    • @JessieBlack
      @JessieBlack  2 года назад

      I absolutely agree! Especially since the theme is already pretty repetitive. Perhaps Ludovico needed to make it fit a certain time slot since, I think, this one may of been written purposely for the film.

    Haven't played piano since i was 12yrs old and in January of last year i finally bought myself a keyboard and have been obsessing ever since. I'm sure i could use some brushup lessons but its surprising how much you still remember. I am 52 now and currently working on this piece your expression is beautiful mine needs work! I'm down to the last page an a half and just love how beautiful it is. Your performance is guiding my journey thankyou.

    Nice one! How do you manage the sustain? Do you hold it through the whole song? I just started learning this too

    • @JessieBlack
      @JessieBlack  2 года назад +2

      For the sustain, I usually let the pedal off whenever there's a chord change in the left hand, or whenever I think the sound is getting too muddy ☺️

      I think it can be a useful tool if you'd like to teach yourself and learn a few things on the piano! I can't really speak to the effectiveness of it for learning as I myself don't use it for learning purposes, but I do think having the visuals and having your piano hooked up to it could be helpful and a way to get you going. I will also say that I've had a number of comments on my RUclips synthesia tutorials from people who have used it to learn the piece, so it certainly can be useful!

    I’m curious are you able to play the first 3 left hand chords or do you modify them? My hands can’t reach and I don’t love playing them as broken chords. I’m curious what you’ve done!

    • @JessieBlack
      @JessieBlack  2 года назад +1

      I'm the same, I can't reach them either and don't like broken chords much so I just play an octave chord in the left hand - keep the bottom and middle note the same and then I just play an A as the third top note 🤗🙏🏻

    your piano keyboard sound so good, may i know what model & brand coz i am still playing my cheap no sensitive touch yamaha keyboard

    • @JessieBlack
      @JessieBlack  3 года назад +1

      I use the Roland FP-80. It has a pretty decent sound and nice touch, but it’s deceiving because that’s not the sound you hear. I use a virtual piano for my videos so the sound you’re hearing is Noire by Native Instruments. In my older videos though, I did record straight off my Roland. Like in this video, for example, you can hear what the Roland FP-80 actually sounds like: ruclips.net/video/38VhHliNN0c/видео.html

    Hi Jessie. One last question. It seems like Einaudi wants the player to really extend the hands in parts of this. Such as the beginning left hand. It’s almost too much of a stretch. Suggestions? Thx! Don

    • @JessieBlack
      @JessieBlack  2 года назад +1

      I can’t reach the stretch either so what I do is I move down the top note of the left hand chord and play it as an octave.

    I would like to learn piano , is it difficult ?

    • @JessieBlack
      @JessieBlack  22 дня назад

      That depends! It certainly can have its difficult moments when you're trying to improve your technique and skill level, but it also has many rewarding moments. Start with the absolute basics and learn from there. It can take some time to get to a place where you have enough skill to be able to play practically anything you want but it's worth it to work towards and achieve that if it's something you want!
