Insanely cheap and good quality as well. Imagine living in Vietnam and working (from distance in your laptop) for a European or UK company which means getting paid in euro or pounds which are even stronger than the USD. You could save an insane amount of money while living a good quality life.

I've encouraged a few of my younger friends from the States to go overseas and teach English; I did it myself from 1984-1987 in Japan and I was in my early 30s. Great experience, and while the cost of living in Japan was much higher than Vietnam ever has been, the salaries were proportionately higher as well for teaching. And I was able to save money to bring back to the States, as well. Unfortunately, most people (younger folks even) remain much too attached to family and familiarity and the prospect of living overseas, while exciting, remains daunting for most folks. Oh, well...choose you life I always say.

Thanks making this video. Just wondering about taxes and how their healthcare system works? Do they universal healthcare or do you need to take out private? Cheers
Tax is rather low comparing to western contries. There is no universal healthcare, but there is public health insurance. But since healthcare is pretty cheap, many people tend to pay extra for better private service. Dental care is the most competitive service in vietnam, hence the dental care tourism from foreign contries

You can park it everywhere, normally if you go to places like coffee, restaurant, supermarket,hospital,...they have a space for your motorbike. They will look after your motorbike, but always make sure to keep eyes on it yourself. Cheers!
If you want to make over 5000 a month, you should work in Hanoi or HCMC. Danang is fab if u r content with 2000 to 4000 and want to pay 200 to 400 in rent but likely 80% make under 3000 there. I know guys making 4000 for 18 hours at day jobs in Hanoi with medical insurance and sometimes free housing. Danang is a better place to live but HCMC and Hanoi have more money. Even Long Bien and Bac Ninh are more lucrative. But with Hoi An and the beaches, Danang is a great place to live with much less traffic and better air quality.
Thanks- great video. What’s the tipping situation in Vietnam? 15% in bars and restaurants or is it already factored into the prices you provided? Thanks
Tips is not common in Vietnam. Westerner and american bring this etiquette to Vietnam. If you go to a bar where they have guys/girls working to pour your drinks, then maybe you can tips them at the end. For restaurants, especially local mom/pop shops, you don’t have to tips. I’ve visited Vietnam twice a year for many years, as Vietnamese American, that’s what I did. All based on how you feel or your generosity, as I sometimes would tips a nice server. They don’t make that much in those restaurants. If you want to experience real Vietnamese food and culture, local shops have better authentic taste than some big restaurants.
Sorry I just want to say even tips is not common in VN, 10% is a good treat for the servers cause they have to work very hard . Salary is not enough for even modest life.
My Step father did three tours bombing all over Central and North Vietnam...He never talked about where he hit or any of his missions...he REFUSED to sign my early permission slip for me to join the military...wow...he went off on me....I just came back from that god forsaken place...I'll be damned if you wind out over there, too !!! He made me wait one year...by then the war was totally over...He never let his hatred of the Viet Cong and the NVA leave his heart...I was way more open minded, due to my Mother , who survived WW 2 Germany as a child...She counseled me that it was the everyday people who truly suffered the horrors of war, not the rich and powerful...I saw things in other countries during my time in the service...I always applied her philosophy to the areas I was operating in...Bless the Vietnamese people for bouncing back and becoming one of Southeast Asia's best self -sufficient country....
The cost of living will be significantly higher in the bigger cities like Hanoi and especially Saigon, at least where rent is concerned. And what about health insurance?

Are you still in Vietnam? Wondering when I'll be able to fly there and travel freely hmmmm. I've been wanting to go. Seems like a more adventurous place to go (and cost less) than Thailand. The plan is to make my home base in Vietnam for a few months, and explore the surrounding provinces during weekends.
Hey man! There is a possibility of me going to teach French in Hanoi next year in an international school. I'm currently living in Colombia with my girlfriend. She is a learning support teacher at the same school as me. She has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Masters in Education, speaks Spanish and English. Would she need to do the TEFL to find a job teaching English, even with experience teaching in an international school in Bogota? Thanks!
That's exciting! Whether or not the Master's in Education will be accepted by the Vietnamese government for a work permit depends on if it gives her qualified teacher status in the country she obtained it in. For example: being a licensed teacher in a US state, QTS in the UK, or PGCE worldwide. If it's not one of these she will likely have to get a TEFL. She can consider an online TEFL as she already has teaching experience so the teaching practicum wouldn't be as important. We offer an online TEFL you can consider: ninjateacher.com
The way Vietnam charges you for your cost of living there is just a fraction of what it costs in Europe and America. Vietnamese people are not materialistic like others in capitalist countries. Otherwise, they would charge you big time.
That’s better living than most places in North America for that cost per month!!!! Thanks for the video gives people a different perspective of life!!! Most North American living right now paying more and getting less quality of life.
What I’m curious about is if there are any professions other than tefl. The country is very beautiful and I want to work out a way to be able to afford it but if the only job I’ll be able to work as a native English speaker is tefl, which I’m not qualified to do, I may have a more difficult time. Hope someone can answer!
_"What I’m curious about is if there are any professions other than tefl."_ The short answer is other than medical professionals working as instructors no. Many of those that want to live there but not teach English, which can be a grind, go the "digital nomad" route. This was easier in the past when a DL (tourist) visa only required a visa run (trip outside the country) every three months but that's recently been changed with the addition of monthly check-ins at immigration offices. The nature of work has greatly changed over the last year and full-time remote has become much more common. If you could get such a job and marry a Vietnamese citizen which would secure you a TRC (temporary residency card) you could live a very comfortable life anywhere in Viet Nam.
If you working on IT field, you will have many opportunities in Đa Nang city, btw Da Nang need more experts in high tech, especially who had international expirience

@@joeGuizan I do live here in Danang. Not a majority of Vietnamese are good at English but mostly the younger generation like me is better at English than the older
@@teachertrung2347 thanks.... in my bucket list to live in Vietnam for a few months in near future... if I find an ideal community with youth and children eager to learn spoken English, would love to share for free.
@@joeGuizan it's nice to hear that, welcome to my country
Hi. This was a lovely video. I am a South African with a professional degree and 25 years of teaching experience. I am not originally an English teacher but I have taught English before. I am not that interested in teaching in China and have been looking into alternatives. Vietnam looks great. I have a young teenage daughter and she would (obviously) need to come with me (she's home-schooled). Do you know of any teachers who bring families/dependents along?
Thank you Ninja.
I am Vietnamese Canadian, my daughter was borned in Canada, just finished her high school.
What University, College , degree is required in order for her to become an English language teacher ?.
We have been to Saigon, Nha Trang, and Vung Tau 2 times. Hope that we will be back again for foodssss and beaches.
Liked and Subcribed your posting.
Any Bachelors and an English certificate. I am in Nha Trang now. It is pretty slow now that covid is blocking tourists to the country.
Do a degree in English language or in English with TEFL. She can also do a CELTA
I left vietnam to work in bangladesh from Dec 31,2020. In covid-19, I realize Vietnam is the best place to live. I miss my country so so much.
@Lisa An you realize that foreigners come in different colors as well right? I am a latino and my skin color is brown. Anyone can travel, not just white people.
I am jealous watching you eating the noodle soup
For real!!!! I started to cry 😂 I’ve been craving Vietnamese food lately. This was emotional
I'm from the Philippines and currently teaching Vietnamese online. They're very humble, kind and generous.
I've heard that Da Nang is an expensive place to live. Can you mention any downsides of living there?
I'm planning to go there too in December
OMG That noodle dish!!!! I would move there just for that!! Excellent video!! I'm ready to retire and plan to spend lots of time in Vietnam!! Thank you!!
It looks like a very pleasant and affordable place to retire. I'm working in Saudi Arabia right now and I'll try to visit Da Nang before my contract ends since it's much closer than traveling from my home in Florida.
@JD, I have read your posts in these comments and I haven't found One positive post, NOT one! Why? Do you truly hate the world and life so much? I hope something good comes to your life soon so you can be happier. Blessings! ☺

Nice video. I spent a couple of months in Vietnam in late 2019, just before the pandemic struck. I wish I'd done what you're doing now when I was your age. Roads not taken, etc.
Thanks for inforich videos.

Is there anything besides coffee that you can get in these coffee shops.
What are you paying for wifi or are you using free wifi at the coffee shops?
What do you pay for phone service?
Seems excellent: what we want to know, income vs expenses (& so, savings?), & nicely-referenced (0:00 to 13:21).
And presented by the engaging Alex - I'm looking forward to watching this!
Vietnam, and in particular beachside Danang, often comes to mind as an attractive possible ESL teaching environment.
Keep it up, Ninja Teacher, you might get us all there, yet! :)
Cheers!
Tha atmosphere out there is attractive. I'd like 2 have an extended visit & learn more. Kool vid....✌🏽🙂❤
13 months I lived in Hue. BUT Da Nang is a favorite of mine. And yes HUDA Beer is the best.
The answer is at 13:11. Under $1000 U.S. per month you can live OK.
SOUNDS GOOD, THANKS FOR SHARING. 🌞✌️👍
You can’t get a washer and dryer in apt?
Did you need to get a motorcycle license there? If so, how long did it take?
Amazing! Im gonna start my journey in Hanoi and try to stay there for a year at least but i def would like to try Da Nang too! Seems more fun to ride on two wheels on the Da Nang streets!
Hanoi is a beautiful city you will enjoy it. I was there around New Years of 2020
Hi! Cool that you moved to Da Nang. That vegan soup looks delicious! I was obsessed with coconut milk coffees in Da Nang. Missing Vietnam 😊
Informative video about prices.
Can i know the name of the hotel and the name of the place for the lunch it is quite cheap and looks good.
that apartment looks unique, has big windows all down the side. most studios only one window. great score!
The last time i watched your videos was 2 years ago and this is the first since then, need to catch up on all your videos. I'm Vietnamese from Australia and used to return every year except for the last 2 years because Covid-19
Awesome video! Mike from Tennessee!
Great video thank you so much because I do have Vietnam on my list of places I want to go in southeast Asia at Vietnam is one of my top ones to go. And I want to inquire about the teaching English how do I find out about that
Hi, do you get an international driver license to ride the moped? or you took the test in VN to get the license? And if so, what is the process? Thanks.
Don't worry about that for driver license very easily you come to
Police Station and you show up
Your driver🚗 license in USA 🇺🇸
And there give you VN license
And you can drive 🚗..the car 🚗
And Autobicycle ..
what is the name of the city that you are making video about the living cost?
Fantastic video Alex. Fancy seeing you at Lu Coffee. my hangout spot haha. Definitely gonna try Bodhichita and Local Beans cafe thanks
'Heart of Darkness' - nice touch on the book that Apocalypse Now was based upon.
What is your comment in reference to? I know the book and seen apocalypse now. Interesting comment so I'm trying to figure where you are going with it.
@@squirrelattackspidy 9:44, there's a sign "Heart of Darkness" in the bar. Nice touch with its historical reference to a book that Apocalypse Now was based upon. In a bar, in Vietnam.

Thank you for the video and the information. I'm about 10 years away from retirement and looking at all the options. Just one question, how do know where you can park your scooter? Is there a no parking zone? Or can you park anywhere as long as it doesn't block the entrance to a business?
You can park it everywhere, normally if you go to places like coffee, restaurant, supermarket,hospital,...they have a space for your motorbike. They will look after your motorbike, but always make sure to keep eyes on it yourself. Cheers!
why did i watch this video? Now i have to plan my next trip back there.
Thanks for the info! I'm looking forward to the Vietnam experience asap
Are there lots of flies in markets and restaurants?
I like how the dog replied, "Hello, but stay back." 0:40.
Sounds like Old Single Bark is still following you at 3:38. lol.
8:00 wow!! So warm and cozy! Love the cafe!! 💗💖
Even tips is not common in VN , 10%
Sorry I just want to say even tips is not common in VN, 10% is a good treat for the servers cause they have to work very hard . Salary is not enough for even modest life.
Cheers Bud - VERY INFORMATIVE - Thks - Best wishes for the Festive holiday season - See you as soon as Covid restrictions finish
Happy holidays!
I'm amazed by the cleanliness
In the U.S. now ,got my TESL Cert. and will be returning as soon as possible.
Within $545/mo living cost:
Housing ~$180/mo
I would go back to Vietnam in a heartbeat, the food itself is enough reason ❤️

Excellent information....thank you Alex...hope to visit Vietnam in the near future, once this COVID-19 is over
the central question is, is the coffee made from arabica beans or the vietnamese beans?
Are you still in Vietnam? Wondering when I'll be able to fly there and travel freely hmmmm. I've been wanting to go. Seems like a more adventurous place to go (and cost less) than Thailand. The plan is to make my home base in Vietnam for a few months, and explore the surrounding provinces during weekends.
Yup still here. Will post updates about borders.

Then you can get 7 different dish in each week !

Thanks a lot for your video. It looks as if Vietnam is cheaper than Thailand. It will try to visit next year after this
pandemic.
The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine. Successful people do daily what the unsuccessful only do occasionally
Most people don't invest due to ignorance
People are scared of investing because of high rate of scam in the business
There are scammers but real brokers are out there for investors
I think I'm blessed because if not I wouldn't have met someone who is as spectacular as expert Mrs Bambi Alex

Great video mate,
What about health care? Is it free or do you need a health insurance?
You need private health insurance. The one you might get with most jobs isn’t great.
The way Vietnam charges you for your cost of living there is just a fraction of what it costs in Europe and America.
Vietnamese people are not materialistic like others in capitalist countries. Otherwise, they would charge you big time.

What about medical insurance? Did not see your reviewing ?
That’s better living than most places in North America for that cost per month!!!!
Thanks for the video gives people a different perspective of life!!! Most North American living right now paying more and getting less quality of life.
What's the address of your place, please? I am looking for an apartment. Maybe they have more rooms available
What I’m curious about is if there are any professions other than tefl. The country is very beautiful and I want to work out a way to be able to afford it but if the only job I’ll be able to work as a native English speaker is tefl, which I’m not qualified to do, I may have a more difficult time. Hope someone can answer!
_"What I’m curious about is if there are any professions other than tefl."_
The short answer is other than medical professionals working as instructors no.
I have friends making 10 to 20k a month working remotely for major tech companies I know some writers for tv and movies that have made over 10 million It depends on your education, skill, talent and business acumen. A few good connections help.
