Essa despedida de Alicia é impressionante, nunca vi na minha vida uma artista de Ballet com tamanha arte, uma suprema Rainha do Ballet Mundial, toda vez que vejo este video eu me emociono, deixou de fato um legado por toda plenitude da Dança Mundial.
Hace varios días del deceso, y mi corazón se sobrecoge al ver una y otra vez, estas imágenes, será mucho lo que se podrá decir, unos en bien, otros en mal, pero al final, se nos fue una grande. A los que tuvimos la dicha de verla bailar, hasta en sus últimos momentos, vimos la grandeza de una mujer que es sinónimo de arte. Su interpretación la convirtió en la más grande bailarina del panorama hispanoamericano. Alicia Alonso marca un antes y un después en el curso del ballet clásico. Bravo, Alicia, y como muchos vocearon en el teatro esa tarde gris.. única. Mis respetos ante esta gran artista ya no de mi pueblo, sino del mundo.
En el año 1955 vino al Sodre a dar clases de tecnica .Yo tuve la suerte de estar con ella .En ese tiempo yo tenia 12 años y llegue a tener clases con ella Gran primera bailarina ..
Queridisima Alicia Alonso;te quedaras siempre en el Corazon de todos tus estudiantes;la Conceptualizacion de la Solemne Madre y mujer Cubana y en toda Cuba;
Por sobre todo deja el legado de una mujer fuerte, discapacitada visual, firme en sus creencias y por demás brillante y talentosísima, con extrema disciplina logró sobreponer sus criterios y fuerza, sus creencias del rigor que solo puede conducir a la perfección, a costa de por seguro ir creando enemigos, que es ley de vida y el costo de exigir perfección. Farewell ALICIA ALONSO, I write this post in English because you yourself spoke English, read, wrote it and for your world fans who don't understand Spanish. There are many Alicias to every Cuban. There is the great artist, politician and human being. Which one are YOU? It's up to you. I belong to the Cuban exiles who fled the bloody tyranny of a psychopath named Fidel Castro, we didn't flee from Alicia Alonso. In fact, I'm willing to bet, that deep inside even her most ardent detractors, are in their hearts proud of her accomplishments as an artist in the world of ballet and more than anything, that she was born in CUBA and put CUBA in the face of BALLET. Baryshnikov said in a visit to the Cuban School that he rated it the 3rd in the world after the RUSSIAN and FRENCH. He also raved about the Cubans scattered around the world in world class levels companies. Alicia Alonso herself was not complex, she was direct and knew EVERYTHING about ballet that needed to be taught. She brought ballet to the provinces of CUBA which was the first time I saw ballet and was amazed by it in the early 1960's. She visited my town. Because of her, I fell in love with it. My recollections of that day are that she was very charismatic and with a devastating stage presence. I was 6yrs old and thought she was the QUEEN of CUBA, there were thousands of people in the plaza. She didn't dance but had students and soloists from the company showing and describing what ballet was. The people applauded and cheered. I remember that I asked to meet "La Reina", (The queen), and did. Alonso touched my face and brushed back my blond hair, I still recall how soft her hands were and how wonderful she smelled. In years later I told Alicia about that day at the Metropolitan Opera House (78) and she laughed out loud and touched my face and brushed back my hair again recreating the moment. ALICIA was a charmer with a great sense of humor. When she talked about ballet, she was serious about and what it stands for. BEAUTY. Alicia had plenty of help creating ballet history in CUBA and their names are Fernando Alonso and brother Alberto Alonso who with their mother, a fantastic woman patron of the arts supported and championed ballet in the island. There were and are many STARS the Cuban School has made, many conspicuously absent here from attendance that went on to glory throughout the world, many defected, many to this day defaming her in her dictatorial style. There is the question of "WHY would Alonso sabotage dancers she helped nurture and create? Many were indulged in broadcast performances?", I don't know, I wasn't there. But if Alicia Alonso herself was a dictator, what was: Lucia Chase Ninette de Valois George BALANCHINE Anton DOLIN Diaghilev Yuri GRIGOROVICH AND, what about Frederick Ashton? To this day there are former English ballerinas bitching about his love for "Margot Fonteyn getting all the great performances depriving them of growth in the Royal Ballet", I can answer that for Sir Frederick Ashton, "You bitches never danced like Margot Fonteyn ". The same I believe sort of novellas episodes happened in the Cuban Company. Disgruntled principal ballerinas complaining about ALICIA. Not ONE ever came even remotely close to the genius of the GREAT ALICIA ALONSO.
