It is with great sadness that I share this but Jack Tueller passed away earlier today at the age of 95. He joins his beautiful wife of 68 years of marriage, my sister, and many other loved ones on the other side.
I love you grandpa and you were a amazing inspiration and I was lucky to have you be a part of my life. Until we meet again colonel...

      This is a nonsensical fraud.
Allied fighter pilots flew out of Great Britain in the initial stages of D - Day, and for a whole bunch of logistical reasons, it was a long time before ANY were established on the continent.

You're close; the medal between the Silver Star and the DFC is the Legion of Merit. Usually worn as a neck order, it is one degree of precedence before the DFC
The small devices on some of his ribbons are called "oak leaf clusters" for multiple citations. So Col. Tueller holds two Legions of Merit, two DFCs, and multiple Air Medals.
The medal in the second row, center, is the WW2 Victory Medal.
To think, given all he's seen to earn those decorations, that a song is still such a strong memory.

Such a heartwarming account. And it just goes to show you that no matter what, we are all human beings, with feelings, emotion, and above all, families that love us. What many people fail to realize, was that many German soldiers did NOT want to be fighting. They did not want this war being waged. But they had no choice. The Nazi leadership enacted a strict draft, resulting in the average age of soldiers being only 23 years old. Those who refused, were punished severely.

I think I've managed to ID the medals on his jacket. Left to right, top to bottom:
Silver Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Distinguished flying cross, Air Medal, American Campaign Medal, Euro-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign, Army of occupation Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
Right breast pocket is is Presidential unit citation.
The silver star alone is enough to qualify this man as a hero, but the distinguished flying cross is icing on the cake.
