IB HL Solo Theatre Performance (Antonin Artaud, 2022)

The performance follows the struggle of a boy. When to be is to be perceived, the boy discovers scepticism about meaning and reality. In the final stage of his life, nihilism is rewarded, ironically, with a will to live. Parts of the piece are collected to point in the direction of existentialism and the horror of cognition.
That said, this performance builds itself on Artaud's theatre. It is a style where the clash of visuals and audio are to be appreciated instead of literature: intuition and awakening of dormant minds take priority. Though the final scene of the performance is a monologue that relies on literary prowess-and serves as the summative commentary on what has been shown-much until then remains crude and somewhat illogical, which excites the intuitive understanding. It would be therefore wise to watch the performance with the perspective of heart, not of logic.
