Chandra Prakash Deval, born 14 August 1949, in Goteepa village in Udaipur district, is a poet, translator and a folklorist from Rajasthan. He writes poetry in Rajasthani and Hindi. His first poetry collection called 'Paagi' won him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1979, and his Hindi collection 'Bolo Madhavi' was recognised with the Meera Award. In 2013, Deval was awarded the Bihari Puraskar for his work 'Hirna! Maun Saadh Van Charna'. Apart from translating Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment and Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, Deval has translated several works of Oriya, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi and Punjabi literature into Rajasthani. In 2011, for his contribution to literature and society, C P Deval was awarded with the Padma Shri, the 4th highest civilian award in India.
