Still rockin Flickr since 2005 baby and don't plan on giving it up. I had my time with IG but it has been thoroughly enshittified for photographers at this point and i deleted my account last year. Being on Flickr is such a relief to be honest and I'm almost as excited about it now as i was 18 years ago.
I see flicker for a best place to store my pictures and sharing it. But really what are you getting out of it now without social media or you just like the community or you like that you can make it your portfolio website?
Well said! Nobody has done it better - they're still the Kings of the game. Sad thing is they don't put a lot of money (if at all) into active development of new features and upgrades to the site. Still worth it!
Awesome! Great to see Flickr getting some love. It remains the best website out there for discussing photography and both from tech point of view but also from the creative.
It needs all the love in the world! I doubt this video gets a lot of traction but I would hope that people gave it another chance. The tech they have underlying everything is impressive.
really hope Flickr gets a come back. I've noticed gen Z is getting really interested in digital point and shoot cameras from the 2000s lately- and interested in older tech and slower lifestyles in general- so who knows
Totally agree! But I think Flickr, with 8K viewing resolution and higher, is still great for high-res photography too! The community there is still kickin!
I old enough to be gen z parent, and I have gone back to using my 2008 dslr Canon, and I've just bought a 2009 small street style 10 mpx Lumix, photography is fun again, oh plus my 80s analog.
Instagram really sucks for photographers now, surprisingly Tumblr still exist and I just deleted my account from there, I think it's time to give FLICKR another chance.
IMO, it's a long story. There's still "porn" on Flickr, and even though they've curbed it well over the last few years, there's still some nuance to the platform that just drives less engagement. There's also not a great way to "like" and "bookmark" photos (there is, but it is opposite of most social media) and there are other opportunities that remain for Flickr.
Hey Noah, thanks for commenting and watching. Like you saw in the video, I am a casual user of Flickr and average 6,000-10,000 views per day and maybe 2-3 comments per photo and several "faves" per photo. It's a really strong platform if you use it casually and of course interact with others.
Unless you are a pixel or gear geek, you have really just put me off starting a Flickr account! I use many cameras, I just sold my OTT techno nonsense mirrorless canon, hated using it and bought a 5 year old 24 mpx Canon 80D in its place. I also use my old 10 mpx Canon 1000D from 2008, and I recently bought a 2009 Lumix lx3 10 mega pixel, plus I have a 1984 Olympus analog camera. I know about composition and light, my lenses are not worth a dime, some of my pictures have little dynamic range, and a bit soft also. I ride a $2,000 Mountain bike, and if you gave me a $10,000 mountain bike I still wont be world champion, do you get my point? So is there a place for me on Flickr? Or will my pictures be pulled apart by "Camera gear experts" PS. I do colour and bnw street, and woodland and landscape photography.
I hear you - thanks for the comment! I found a really supportive community there, where we share experiences with our cameras, our gear, and our shoots. It's been great to me so far. Everyone's experience is different. For me, at least there's discussion happening versus on Instagram / everywhere else it's just blind likes.
@@oxeneers ok thanks, sorry if my comment seemed like an attack, it wasn't meant that way! It's just that I've been an artist one way or the other my whole life, but today I fear sadly "people " are obsessed with the latest gear and 100 mpx and lenses cut from diamonds, nobody seems to care about composition or atmosphere or story of the pictures, only "is it sharp, how many mpx, I cant see into the dark shadows " etc etc.
Hi, can you tell me how to make my Flickr Favorites appear instantly instead of my Photostream when someone visits my page? When I visit someone's profiIe their Favorites appear instantly, I want the same thing if possible.
It's an interesting question - the photographers of old were very scared of their work being shared without their permission, but with the proliferation of cameras (especially, smartphone cameras), in my opinion, photography is meant to be shared. Hope that makes sense as to my thoughts on the subject! Thanks for watching!!
@@oxeneers But photographers what do they earn from sharing pics for free, visibility so possible commission? It`s amazing that after so much time there`s no photo sharing site better than flickr yet. This is mind blowing.

Thank you for the interesting video. It's a great idea that I can use this site not only for posting images but also for self improvement!
I've been on Flickr since 2007, it's a great site!!
It's my absolute favorite - what's your link?
I am still on Flickr Pro. Although I'm not a pro photographer. I just love all the Groups where I belong to
Agreed - I'm more of a prosumer photographer and I have had pro for over a decade. Such a great service.

Man, thanks for the tour. I need to get more active on that site ✌
You do! Miss your posts.
great like an always!
Thank you! Cheers!
alright you did it, I'm a pro now!
Let's GOOO!!!
I joined 2005, lapsed in 2012, jumped back on last month.
Just followed you!
So if you upload your photos on flickr any person in the world can download the original full-res file? Im not sure i like that.
You have control over this - you can limit everything people can download/see at a granular level. Great question!
@@oxeneers ok thanks :)
Hello. Please, how does one share an album without the sharee being able to see one's other albums?
Probably best to use a service like Google Photos for that, honestly! Flickr is more for publishing.
Hi, is it possible to add photos to an album without it residing in the photostream? From an outboard drive.
That's a great question - I don't think it's possible! You should contact Flickr and let them know you'd like to see that!
@@oxeneers From what I've seen around Reddit, they're not doing much in the way of new development these days. Thanks for the reply !
Instagram really sucks for photographers now, surprisingly Tumblr still exist and I just deleted my account from there, I think it's time to give FLICKR another chance.
Do you need to copyright your images etc
No, I use creative licensing for some and full copyright for others. Flickr gives you a ton of options, have you checked it out?
Then qhat the best site for 2023?
I still use it. But I want to find a way to just use Flickr as a full portfolio website and have an inquiry form and contact page
Sadly, I don't think it's really built for that anymore. I use Squarespace for that and link to Flickr as an addendum site.
Why is that they have less engagement?

Honestly, not sure. I think reaching out to Flickr would be your best bet. They are pretty active on Twitter!!
Do you tag your photos? All of them. None of them?
I tag all of them - sorry for the late response! I am very into tagging as it helps with discovery.
Should do a video on tagging!

@@Antares-vj7su if they choose to sell it for free. They probably do other things beside photography. They probably have websites

Does what download in ZIP files? Sorry I don't understand the question.
