I love the letter. That man has been dead and forgotten about for centuries and here we are in 2016 and he suddenly has an audience of thousands all across the world. Incredible!
Interestingly, Philip Rashleigh has a Wikipedia page which reveals some good info. He wrote this letter from his family estate at Menabilly. "He was a renowned mineralogist who wrote many books on the subject and a well-known collector of mineral samples...Philip also started a coin collection which became one of the largest in the country."!Of most relevance: "In the same collection are models in glass of the hailstones that fell on 20 October 1791, particulars of which, with the figured representations, are given, on Rashleigh's information, in King's Remarks on Stones fallen from the Clouds, pp. 18-20"There's always more to discover!
How appropriate that the last artifact would be, and I say this with only the greatest affection, a Parker-square of a report. This Phil Rashleigh put forth the effort to announce to the world the news of his find, not knowing or caring if it would be of any use. It didn't matter to him if what he had to share would have a meaningful impact on the world or not. At least he gave it a go.
+Filipe Nunes I think he would have read everything if it were possible, but I'm not so sure that's the case, given the vast collection the Royal Society have built up over the centuries.
Left handers unite! We should take CGP Grey's approach and buy an island to turn it into a nation of lefties. Tourists will have to use left-handed scissors and pencil sharpeners. Public computers will have mice on their left side by default. Most chairs in classrooms and lecture theatres will have the table on the left side. And our flag will feature the face of Ned Flanders.
+Mr Schrödinger - I am the one who reviews. Even if I am left handed I've never tried a left handed mouse and I think it would feel very wrong for me now. Maybe should try sometime though. Although I'm a little "both-handed". I throw with right for example.
Brady, I love this channel so much! Of all of the channels you do, this is one that I hope you continue for thousands of episodes. I love exploring the archives with you!
What's fascinating about the weather 'report' is that it was written approx. sixty years before the formation of the met office! The other one which caught my eye was the 'schoolboy' error. It made me think about what events led him to forget to annotate the plate numbers. Another excellent video from Objectivity and the perfect birthday present, thanks guys :).
It's probably a combination of excitement, exhaustion and madness (caused by mind numbing work in profound and abstract science that often leads to one losing one's ability to perform simpler tasks). These must have caused the guy to make a schoolboy error~
Dear Brady, this is amazing! Not only the concept of the channel itself, but the competition of multiple people at the same time makes it better to my mind
3:30 Yet more proof that no matter how smart you are, no matter how experienced, no matter how well regarded you are, *NO ONE* is immune to making a stupid mistake.
Was there any indication that a (working) model of that sundial like thing is in the archives as well? Supplied maybe by the writer of that paper? I think that if you have a collection of wonderful items like this and their description, it might be fun to publish them in a way so people could recreate them. Would make for an interesting exhibition or something.
I find it interesting that the President of the Royal Society at the time was Sir Joseph Banks, who was with Captain Cook when he first came to Australia, thus providing a (tenuous) link to Brady and Matt.
This video was awesome also I like that (at the moment in wich I am watching this) there are over 580 likes and 0 dislikes, great job on this one brady.!
The guy who wrote that letter Matt chose is the real winner. He sent the letter to the Royal Society, knowing that his letter might not mean anything and would be burned, AND that he probably wouldn't know if his letter is saved or burned, BUT he still sends it anyway. This guy is such a BAMF and probably got all the ladies back in 1791. Go Phillip Rashleigh!
I really want to see them on stage. Is there any way I can watch them with out seeing them live? Also, will they ever come by swansea so I can see them live?
This video was excellent. I'm usually a Deep-Sixty-Periodic-Numberphile kind of person, but I guess I could try out objectivity. Also, I'm really surprised the referee was named in the official record. Whenever we submit a paper to a journal, the referee's secret identities are never revealed. I thought just the editor of the journal knew. I don't know that they would speak so openly or frankly if they knew their name was attached to the review.
Isn’t “improv’d” short for “improvised?” Having it be an abbreviation for “improved” doesn’t make sense because you could type the whole world with same number of characters. Or am I the one who is wrong?
I love the letter. That man has been dead and forgotten about for centuries and here we are in 2016 and he suddenly has an audience of thousands all across the world. Incredible!
He'll be in that waiting room for a while now. #HI

Thank you! I would have never Googled his name!
I think all three had significantly better than average luck with the White Gloves of Destiny.
"MY CABBAGES!"
love how peaceful the comment section is on these videos :] hello fellow civil people who like to learn little tidbits :]
+delnuggets Brady just tweeted your comment, you're internet famous now!

Sod off, you cis transphobic feminist indoctrinated man-bitch homophobe.
Matt brings so much excitement to everything. From unboxing calculators to reading a paper about the weather, awesome.

4:56, Somehow I don't think he's being sarcastic.

+Nillie ...

+Mr Schrödinger - I am the one who reviews. CGP Grey would refuse to have anything to do with a flag with a face on it, makes for bad flag design.
SinZ Exactly! It's bad flag design done on purpose.

What a great WGoD! Best so far, I think.
One of the most charming episodes yet!

i love how brady is always rocking the Hello Internet shirt
Dear Brady, this is amazing! Not only the concept of the channel itself, but the competition of multiple people at the same time makes it better to my mind
Loved this one! This is a great crowd for the white gloves, would love to see them compete again!
Matt should be a regular on here
Nothing beats the feeling of filling my does of Keith
One of my favourite White Gloves Of Destiny videos so far... All 3 were actually really interesting!
All 3 were pretty interesting. That sun device would take some research to figure out how it works though.
This was brilliant :D *All* of it!
Thanks for doing this, Brady!! And Keith!! And, for this particular video, Helen, Steve, and Matt :)
I'm still waiting for instructions on how to play last week's game.
Mankind will never forget you, Philip Rashleigh
3:30 Yet more proof that no matter how smart you are, no matter how experienced, no matter how well regarded you are, *NO ONE* is immune to making a stupid mistake.
Also, "I have the honour to be your most obedient servant" reminds me of Hamilton the musical.
Oh wow, I’d missed that video… With Festival of the Spoken Nerd even! ❤️
That was great. Also their "Festival of the Spoken Nerd" is a fun watch, too.
Keith is the real winner!
My actual goal in life is beaing a little more like Keith. You sexy beast you!
My goal is to be like the humble yet inquisitive Philip Rashleigh, whose name will remain immortal
Yay! I love seeing these cool guys cross paths with our buddy Brady :)
Super video! Love these guys, and they were very good at the White Gloves.

Presumably the fact that the chairman didn't burn the letter as instructed means he found the letter interesting?
I have lost count about the times I watched this video. It moves me.
I love this series! Brilliant idea!
More Steve and Matt, they are great for these videos
Nature used Hail!
Greenhouse is buffeted by hail!
+TheOtherNeutrino It's super-effective!
Ryan Salvatore That's not how it works.
Great selections.
I think that they are all winners ... I am appreciating the 'random' items as a better representation of the archives than the selected items
Best White Gloves of Destiny yet :)
White Gloves of Destiny ... More more more more ! perfect format.... 3 x picks... do every object. rip out the card and throw it on the floor after.
I find it interesting that the President of the Royal Society at the time was Sir Joseph Banks, who was with Captain Cook when he first came to Australia, thus providing a (tenuous) link to Brady and Matt.
They've spend a whole day in the library! I wish I could do the same.
With that letter I have new belief that someone will want to listen to even me and my stories.
Best episode ever!
This was a great episode. And of course Matt was going to be the winner.
I love this channel!
I want to see the bit with Steve shooting a vortex cannon at Helen now!
Everyone has white gloves on except the man handling the actual materials.
Matt chose the 37th draw. And it's prime! Probably his favourite prime!
This video was awesome also I like that (at the moment in wich I am watching this) there are over 580 likes and 0 dislikes, great job on this one brady.!
Has Keith ever donned (equipped?) the gloves of destiny? I think he should.
I see a bright future in Matt's youtube career and that's great :)
God I love this channel...

Xcessive Professor ... xcessive indeed, professor
Another good one.
i love this channel!
Don't under stand most that talk about, but love listening to it.
that last letter sounds exactly like something the Monty Python would write up.
Really great video, I love the White Gloves of Destiny :-)
I would love to do one of these, it looks really fun
Matt Parker should become the new Librarian when Keith retires he is the only person that can read the papers like him
Keith is my fashion icon: scholarly, and svelte at the same time
Just me or is there a Hermione, Harry, and Ron vibe to the crew?
'It was a dark and stormy night...'
How could you not try to read everything in the Royal Society's collection if you were able?
This guy, knows so fucking much...
I will shortly produce an article about hail, and I would like to give Mr. Rashleigh a proper quotation. How might I refer to his letter?
You should do a video on the Voynich manuscript.
Do a video on the instrument in the diagram
Of course Matt is the winner, because he is my favorite of the three.
That was amazing!
Oct. 26!!!! woooh, anybody else? :D
I agree with Steve, all the best people are left handed!
The glove has spoken
I really want to see them on stage. Is there any way I can watch them with out seeing them live? Also, will they ever come by swansea so I can see them live?
+Abyssaljam You can get our DVD here: shop.festivalofthespokennerd.com/
I know what ill be watching tommorow
leave it to the Brits to think talking about the weather with self-important humbleness is the winner.
How does one join the Royal Society?
Anyone else though of the cabbage guy from Avatar when he read the letter about hailstorm and his vegetables?
This video was excellent. I'm usually a Deep-Sixty-Periodic-Numberphile kind of person, but I guess I could try out objectivity.

I just wonder if Keith can read Sütterlin as well.
Brady, time to interview a few artists.
send kieth to idubbbz's bad unboxing videos.... and grab a popcorn: p
I think the gloves may be in need of some detergent, they don't look exactly white...
Thank the gloves!
2:50 His commentary: "First"
How about doing the very first and very last cards in the catalog?
+Matthew McGee They already did that. Check out episode 39.
If these were real nerds, they would use percentile dice to randomize the selection properly
Someone should do these white gloves at the Library of Congress in Washington DC
lovely!
LONG LIVE THE MEMORY OF PHILLIP RASHLY!!!
I always thought Steve seemed a bit sinister
Isn’t “improv’d” short for “improvised?” Having it be an abbreviation for “improved” doesn’t make sense because you could type the whole world with same number of characters. Or am I the one who is wrong?
So papers haven't changed over hundreds of years.
Matt Parker has lost his com badge off his uniform shirt. Starfleet will not approve.
The video never loads, just the loading spinner forever on a black screen..
If this guys hailstorm letter was taken more seriously at the time, we might have had Gorilla Glass™ 200 years ago.
Nobody mention Monsanto please.
+Green Silver
You just did O:
I'd love to have Keith's job, but I imagine it requires a fastidiousness that I lack...
If you want to know what this channel is all about, watch this video!
NOT THE VEGETABLES!
