It amazes me that Pirate Land is the first board you’re expected to play. I decided to play this game on Switch Online, it was my first time playing Mario Party. I wasn’t great at the minigames and so I was broke and sent back to the beginning, which started a series of trying to leave the first island to get to the star, in which I had no coins to buy items to help cross the bridge, which made crossing almost impossible with 2 cpus trying to cross at the same time, and I couldn’t land on the transport shark. It was a miserable experience where I spent easily 10 turns stuck in a coinless loop at the start of the board, unable to progress to the star. I eventually had much more fun on the Western Land board because 1/2 of the board didn’t feel like sitting on a landmine.
Yes I have no idea why pirate land was the beginner board. The shark and the cannonballs can easily screw your gameplay and leave a bad first impression

They had to figure out unique ways to push the consoles to their limits back then. Not saying they don't do that nowadays, but there aren't as many restrictions for the developers of our age.
Older games are often better and more interesting than newer games now. Just look how lame Super Mario Party is compared to the very first Mario Parties, though another reason for this is probably since, when the older developers stopped developing Mario Party, the series kind of went downhill.
I appreciate the effort you put into these videos. They're longer than some feature length films, but every bit of them is packed with information. Thank you for teaching me how to destroy my friendships.
1:05:30 There is one extra bit of strategy that always won me this mini-game. When you get to the big converyor belt that pushes you backwards you can short hop to it and then jump to its other edge to then jump to the next platform. Doing this reduces the time you are walking on it and let's you cross it at pretty much regular run speed. The opposite applies to the forward moving conveyor belt. You want to short hop to it so you can run along it as long as possible.
You won't have to wait nearly as long for the others. I wasn't working the whole five months in-between this video and the last one. Glad you're looking forward to them!
ZoomZike Not to tell you what to do, but please take care not to burn yourself out. 2 hour long videos are definitely no small feat, not just with editing and VO, but I can imagine all the info gathering and footage recording is just as time consuming. Never mind all the times during the project you might have to go back and re-edit something you got wrong (I’ve been there...). These Mario Party videos are awesome, but don’t rush it. Let them be done when they’re done. We’ll still be here :).
Hoh, I'm guessing the longest one of these will top off at 2 hours and 30 minutes. Hopefully I can condense the information enough so it doesn't get _that_ long.
Just came across these yesterday and have been working my way through them. I consider Mario Party 1-3 my favorites and I never thought there was such an in-depth discussion to be had on the element of luck, but these are great watches and nice trip down memory lane. Thanks for all the work you put into these.
2:02:03 Yes I know I said "sound" instead of "around", there's actually a very good reason for that if you'd like me to explain. First, we need to define what "sound" is. To an average person, a sound is something that vibrates one's ears. Since the hammer "vibrates" the blocks fast enough to shatter them, I decided to be a clever boy by substituting "around" for "sound." I hope you're satisfied with that explanation, except you shouldn't be, since it really was a mispronunciation the entire time. Thank you for reading! You can unpause now.
I know this is 4 years old, but I just found this series yesterday(Mario Party 7! Watched it immediately when I saw it) and I'm absolutely loving it so far. The games are incredibly nostalgic to me and I never realized how much went into them! I also think its very coincidental that you updated the series today while I was watching this! How awesome though! Great work. I'll watch 8 when i get there lol

This is the game that started it all for me, my friends and I spent the summer of 2000 locked away in my new apartment playing this game all night long, ah the pain, the Big Boo stealing everything, lol. Absolute classic game.
FYI, as someone who legit loves the MP games, this is super awesome to have a proper guide to some of this stuff I haven't had a chance to really dig into. Props.
This was my first Mario Party and after playing modern mario partys (10,Super, and the 3ds games except the top 100) i decided to take a break from them and play my very first Mario Party which was 2 and it did not disappoint. I am really impressed how it was able to tell a good story without a story mode (even tho i do prefer that they add a story mode) And tbh the story is a underrated part of this game.
You did indeed blow my mind with Day at the Races. Now it won´t be just a completely luck-based minigame that I lose all my coins to! That title is for BOWSER´s Big Blast! Hahaha..haha..ha *cries in coin lead*
OH GOD I NEEDED THIS. I have been so stressed and I need to spend two hours of pure escapism. Just thinking about something other than worldly troubles. Like the fact that two crazy people keep trying to jump me at a clinic I have to go to everyday. The police won't do anything and the clinic knows who these people are but will not give out any information or even parking lot surveillance footage because of HIPPA. So every time I go I run the risk of getting jumped.
ZoomZike Oh man its more than a little. I only just now finished the video. It was a fun learning experience as always and so nice to focus on something where the most nefarious thing possible is covering the face in the face stretching minigame so the other players can't see it lol. Excited for number 3! My wife apparently played it a bunch as a kid so we'll be watching together. Thanks again for making these! They're a real treat. Oh and the clinic kicked out the people who were after me. Hopefully they won't be back to retaliate for that but at least the clinic is now open to cooperating with the police and are even giving me an escort to my car if ask for one.
Just wanna say a big thank you for this! This is one of my most cherished games growing up. I am 25 now and still love Mario Party 1-3 especially so much, unfortunately not many people wanna play it with me as I am...too good at it. This series is amazing so far, what a thourough analysis on this fantastic game. Thanks so for much for this, and can't wait for the next few of this, especially 3 of course! :-) ...now I just gotta hope the OTHER series on Mario Party, "Chance Time", will be continued too...I assume you are familiar with it?
If you want people to play with, then try joining the Mario Party Netplay Discord server I linked in the description, I'm sure you'll find some great challenge there! MP3's a favorite of mine! Can't wait until it's finished either! I've skimmed around King K's retrospectives on MP1 and MP2. While I haven't set aside time to watch them all the way through, I respect the thought he put into them.
One of my main methods on Move to the Music is to “forget” to do something on the last input. If my friends don’t know that secret, all of them will fail.
It’s amazing how much this game improved from the first just by changing a few things. I don’t understand why most of the boards from MP1 looked so poor compared to 2. Looking forward to your Mario Party 3 analysis!
I've been looking forward to this since I first saw this. Since I've played Mario Party 2 literally as long as I can remember, I thank you very much for making such a great video again.
@The Red Guy Hey, nice to see you here. Yeah, 6 is awesome and so is 7. Both of which used to be my favourites. Repeat playthroughs made 3 my favourite.
Nice video again ZoomZike! The humongous amount of research and effort you have put into this video it would be pretty hilarious to actually play against you since you know how most of the RNG and other stuff works! :D
Playing against me would only suck if I manage to execute my knowledge faithfully. I can be caught up in the game, joking around with friends, just to go "Oh crap, I should've made _that_ move instead." Glad you enjoyed!!
HECK YEAHHHHHH!!! The second part is finally out!! I've been waiting a long while to watch this, time to grab a snack and take some notes, this is going to be fun!! I don't know HOW you only have 15k subscribers, your videos are so in-depth it's required by LAW to have more!! I hope you get the recognition you deserve for all of the time you put into these videos
If it makes you feel any better, I was at about 2k a month or so ago before RUclips starting really pushing my videos to peoples' recommended videos. Thank you for all the kind words!!
46:51 This actually screwed me out of a win the 1st time i played it and PEACH WON, THAT WAS MY WIN, YOSHI WAS GOING TO WIN AND BE THE HERO AND SAVE EVERYONE BUT NOOOOO PEACH HAD TO WIN AND ... salt levels are high right now
@ZoomZike the reason that there’s so many recycled minigames from the first Mario Party is because Mario Party 2 was meant to be an expansion to the first game. It even has errors when you connect a N64DD (Disk Drive) to it, which suggests that Mario Party 2 was planned for the DD. Maybe Mario Party 1 was even planned for the DD too...
Came back here after watching a certain extremely long Simpleflips video. I had to reassure myself that Bowser's Big Blast really was fair odds all the way through, but couldnt quite remember the math.
It was a joke on how in the first Identifying Luck I claimed DK's Jungle Adventure was the only board in the entire series with two Boos in the entire series.
I love the fact that you emphasized every time you replaced hip drop with ground pound Also not saying GIF but Graphic Interchange Format to avoid pronunciation debate

10:20 ive watched this like 5 times and i just noticed this GORGEOUS animation! so extremely well done
I had a lot of fun with that part, glad you enjoyed it!

So nice he said it twice. Must be important.
The complexity of this game is kinda amazing, considering its still on the N64
They had to figure out unique ways to push the consoles to their limits back then. Not saying they don't do that nowadays, but there aren't as many restrictions for the developers of our age.
Older games are often better and more interesting than newer games now. Just look how lame Super Mario Party is compared to the very first Mario Parties, though another reason for this is probably since, when the older developers stopped developing Mario Party, the series kind of went downhill.
@@zoomzike hey I’m having trouble with mecha marathon
How do I win it
They don't call it the Ultra 64 for nothing!
HERE WE GO!
Watched the first one twice through and I loved it so much, this is gonna be great :D
Dang, twice through. That's another hour and a half!
Yep! My roommate brought various Mario Party games to our dorm, so I figured this was the best way to prepare
I appreciate the effort you put into these videos. They're longer than some feature length films, but every bit of them is packed with information. Thank you for teaching me how to destroy my friendships.
Gotta destroy them somehow!
I noticed that after the fact. Good mention!
I've been looking forward to this for ages since Party 1 came out!
1:50:52 what an interesting mechanic. crazy how much thought went into games that you just zoomed through as kids
Am I really about to watch another movie-length video about Mario Party?
.
.
.
Yup.
Hoh, I'm guessing the longest one of these will top off at 2 hours and 30 minutes. Hopefully I can condense the information enough so it doesn't get _that_ long.
If its 2:30 hours, then I guess I'll listen while doing homework
Poor innocent zoomzike from 7 months ago, how wrong you were.
@@zoomzikeI have looked into your future and seen two 5 videos. And they are glorious.
But listen, characters dressing up depending on the board should really come back though.

Just came across these yesterday and have been working my way through them. I consider Mario Party 1-3 my favorites and I never thought there was such an in-depth discussion to be had on the element of luck, but these are great watches and nice trip down memory lane. Thanks for all the work you put into these.
2:02:03
Yes I know I said "sound" instead of "around", there's actually a very good reason for that if you'd like me to explain.
This series is so good and oddly charming. Can’t wait for the next one!!!
Glad you're looking forward to more!
HOOH, that intro is a beauty, this series is only going up from here
Going up and up and up, glad you enjoyed!
Great work. I'll watch 8 when i get there lol
i remember watching this, commenting on the dvd player screensaver intro, before severely underestimating how strategy-based some mario party games can be
1:09:28 HeadOn apply directly to the forehead! (Yes I know he pointed it out in a comment already)
Also very glad to finally know about that Move to the Music empty input trick. I lost last time I played because of that and was very confused and even a bit frustrated (which is super rare for me while playing these luck heavy games for fun).
The empty input trick is one that I hope is carried for generations to come.
I've been looking forward to this for MONTHS.
Thank for keeping up with the series, dude!
Thanks!!
Oh yeah, keep 'em coming, I love these!
AW YEAH.
Yesssss! There’s nothing I love more than extremely long in depth well researched video essays on video games I love! Seriously these videos are fantastic, your production value is fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed!
At 19:22 you said that if whomp appears, he'll always pick Mario, even if no one is playing him, so is no one awarded coins in that case?
Pretty sure that's the case!
I've actually never seen that happen; I've always been playing as Mario. I still do. Except in Super Smash Bros.
So Mario is the objectively best character

FYI, as someone who legit loves the MP games, this is super awesome to have a proper guide to some of this stuff I haven't had a chance to really dig into. Props.
Glad you enjoyed!
Awesome! I loved the first one and I hope this’ll be amazing! Thanks for the upload
No problem!
The ending was so heartfelt that I’m having nostalgia for a game I’ve only played at GDQs
It deserves to be remembered fondly.
Ewww, I can't imagine playing Mario Party with strangers at.. a GDQ of all places.
You did indeed blow my mind with Day at the Races. Now it won´t be just a completely luck-based minigame that I lose all my coins to! That title is for BOWSER´s Big Blast! Hahaha..haha..ha *cries in coin lead*
Ahahahahhah...
I'm sorry about your situation and I'm glad I've been able to help you out if even a little.
...now I just gotta hope the OTHER series on Mario Party, "Chance Time", will be continued too...I assume you are familiar with it?
If you want people to play with, then try joining the Mario Party Netplay Discord server I linked in the description, I'm sure you'll find some great challenge there!
MP3's a favorite of mine! Can't wait until it's finished either!
I've skimmed around King K's retrospectives on MP1 and MP2. While I haven't set aside time to watch them all the way through, I respect the thought he put into them.
I NEVER knew that the item shop items weren't random! This series has been really great.
My mind was blown when I discovered that for the first time. Thanks!

It’s amazing how much this game improved from the first just by changing a few things. I don’t understand why most of the boards from MP1 looked so poor compared to 2. Looking forward to your Mario Party 3 analysis!

Oh yeah, I knew MP2 had some kind of connection to MP1 in that way, although I didn't know that Disk Drive bit, pretty cool!
