- Hello everyone!
Here is a wonderful composition from Max Richter that I love so much. I've played all the parts as written for the original instruments. There are 5 cello parts.
This piece his part of the album "The Blue Notebooks": it is composed in the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He has described it as "a protest album about Iraq, a meditation on violence - both the violence that I had personally experienced around me as a child and the violence of war, at the utter futility of so much armed conflict." The album was recorded about a week after mass protests against the war (source: Wikipedia).
The track "On the Nature of Daylight" has been used extensively throughout cinema and television, including in Shutter Island (2010), Disconnect (2012), Arrival (2016), and The Last of Us (2023).

Holy hell! The cello has such range! She played so well it sounded like a violin. This is an opinion of a brass player but I think cello is the best and most beautiful string instrument.

A truly beautiful rendering of Max's, The Nature of Daylight by a single artist. Brought tears to my eyes. I have always loved the cello as my mum use to play. There is only one other single composition that is worth listing to, Chris Bryant rendering with a Saxophone.

Wow. This sounds SO much like the original. By far the best cover I've listened to on youtube of this song. I'm wanting to learn the cello so badly. Watching videos like this inspires me to continue to want to play the cello. I need to save up for a cello so I can start practicing.

@@musicathomepro for my own future reference, is music that is written for the violin interchangeable for the cello or did u have to compose the music for the parts of this song that were originally for violin into cello?
This is an exact transcription of the original composition. The original parts are as following : 2 celli, 1 alto, 2 violins. We could have make an arrangement more in the usual range of the cello but we wanted to keep the atmosphere of the original with the 1st violin part which sounds like coming from heaven! But this is technically more difficult to play.

I just tried a song on my cello and it wasn't working and wasn't working. I had my teacher try it and found it has no resonance at all near the top on the A string over the body. I feel like this song sounds. I love my cello. Maybe I can learn to work around that.
